"Mommy?" I heard Twen's voice call me and instantly pushed Robbie away.
A little figure ran past Robbie to me and stared at me. Seeing Twen's eyes widening in shock, I knew I was a mess. He held my trouser and asked in a fretful voice,
"Mom...are you okay?"
My voice was broken from all the shouting and crying. It was dry too. So, when I spoke, it sounded like I was choking,
"Yes, I'm fine!"
Twen didn't buy it. He looked at me with concern and then turned angrily towards Robbie.
"Who are you, Mister? Why are you making my Mommy cry?" he asked.
Though Robbie was looking just as messy as me, somehow, that did not gain Twen's sympathy. Robbie's cheeks were wet with tears, his shirt soaked in my tears and his hair was tousled. However, instead of tidying himself, he stared at Twen as if he had been electrocuted. Twen did not take kindly to Robbie staring at him and spoke in a harsh tone,
"I am not scared of your big eyes."
I could see that Robbie was about to say something, but I interrupted. I cannot let Robbie meet Twen now. Twen is not mentally prepared for suddenly knowing Robbie's identity as his dad. I don't want Twen to suffer from shock and pain when he is barely 7. I put my hands on both of Twen's shoulders and turned him towards me. In order to clear my voice, I had to gulp down my saliva several times,
"Twen, you'll be late. Quickly take a bath and be ready, okay? Mommy will make you breakfast."
"But-" Twen said, giving a tensed sidelong glance at Robbie.
"Twen, Mommy is fine. Don't worry," I said, kissing his forehead as he scrunched his brow up. "Get ready. I'll make you pancakes. You love it, right?"
Twen nodded but was not excited like he normally gets on hearing about pancakes. Instead, he turned to glare at Robbie as if giving him a warning and trotted past him to his room. Once the door closed, I looked at Robbie, who still had that dumbstruck look on his face.
"Leave. Twen is not mentally prepared to face you. Plus, I have work and Twen has school." I said bluntly.
Robbie said something totally unrelated to my topic, "He has my eyes."
Eyes? His entire face is completely like Robbie's. He is a carbon copy of Robbie; obviously, his genes were very dominant in him. As they look very alike, people can make the connection quite easily. Especially since he is now a prominent figure because of the Resort.
I put my index finger and thumb on the bridge of my nose before saying in a tired voice, "Yes! What a cruel twist of fate! He got your face. Are you happy now?" I looked at him feeling agitated that he was dragging on this conversation. "But I am glad it's ONLY your face he got," I said, exerting my agitated feeling.
Robbie didn't say anything. He turned to look at the closed door of Twen's room. I was too tired of arguing with him early in the morning. I walked past him to the kitchen to get my pancake mix and pan. I heard Robbie as he moved back to the drawing-room. I hoped he would finally leave. I busied myself with cooking.
I took honey out from my pantry, poured it on two pancakes, and was almost done with cooking. Twen liked chocolate syrup or maple syrup with his pancake, but I don't want him getting cavities. Plus, honey was a healthier alternative.
I heard footsteps and turned to see Robbie, his suit back on him. His face looked much cleaner and sharper after he smoothed out his bed hair, though, his eyes were still bloodshot. He came to me and said softly,
"Tony, take care of yourself and Twen. I'll come again."
I sighed. I looked at him with the plate in my hand.
"No. I don't want you anywhere near my Twen. I don't want him to catch your selfish attitude." I said sternly.
Robbie looked down at the floor dejectedly and said, "I understand, I will not get close to him until you want me to."
Before I could process what he said, Robbie abruptly walked up to me and bent his head at an angle to kiss me. I wanted to step back, but there was no place, and I was holding the plate of pancake. I was about to shout, "NO!" when he stopped suddenly. He slowly stretched his hand to caress my hair and asked softly,
"Can I kiss you?"
This was the first time. I was so taken aback that I accidentally blurted out, "Since when did you care about my consent?"
Robbie's hand froze on my hair. His eyes widen as if he had received the biggest blow of his life. Immediately, he withdrew his hand and put a distance between us. There was a weird pause. I looked at him as his face lost color. After a whole 5 minutes, he stuttered,
"I-that-I didn't mean-I," he swiftly turned away and walked to the door.
With his hand on the knob, he said quietly, "I don't even know how to apologize anymore. It feels like all I have ever done is cause you pain. Take care!"
I couldn't speak. I could hear the tremble and earnestness in his voice. It was too new to me. Right now, my thoughts were all jumbled. I remained standing in the kitchen with the plate of pancakes in my hand slightly tilted. I was hardly aware that honey was dripping from the pancakes onto the floor. I heard as the door to my house closed, followed by the door to Twen's room opening and soft footsteps walking towards the kitchen. I felt my simple life had officially turned complicated, torn between my son and his dad.

Robbie's Dad POV
My son has changed. When he was younger, he obeyed me without any question, but now he is almost like a stranger. Ever since his college days, he had been pretty rebellious but the issue of marriage has raised a particularly defiant reaction from him. The recent talk with him made me rethink my previous perception of his disobedience being a part of his transition to adulthood. I decided to marry Robbie to Sarah after consulting Sarah's father, Olsen. Olsen is an important political figure and is a member of Congress. His power and reach could be beneficial to the business and its future prospects. Furthermore, Olsen and I have a shared history, so with this marriage, I hoped to settle previous differences. Robbie is young and still full of childish fantasies. He doesn't see the profit from this union and had been hell-bent on not accepting this relationship. There are going to be advantages on both sides of this marriage, and I don't think I have selected the wrong girl for him. She is a smart and beautiful girl with suitors lined up after her, and yet miraculously Robbie never found any interest in her. I wonder why?
I have put a watch over him since his college days. I thought maybe he had a woman he likes. If she is of good social standing and is beneficial to the future of our business, I will be more than happy to bless the marriage. However, except for his raging days in the college of one-night stands, he never showed any interest towards any woman. I wonder if it is a man he likes. I was quite surprised to find that his one-night-stands did not just comprise of women. Being bisexual at this age and time was not a surprise. There are several high-standing men and women who are found to be bisexual. But, to continue the family lineage, the opposite gender is necessary. True, that barrier had been broken as well with the discovery of the sub-genders but I would never approve of a male bride even if they can give birth. None of those cheap breeders are crossing the threshold of my house. Keeping them as side-men or side-woman is fine, but giving them authority in the house and life, never. Whores should be laden with riches not crowned as princesses.
Robbie had been so adamant about this marriage issue, that I was bound to have doubts that he had fallen for someone but there had been absolutely no one. What can possibly be the reason for his refusal? Could it be that there is some history between Sarah and Robbie? After all, they were childhood friends, maybe there are some sour memories that make him not want her as his bride. Men are prideful creatures especially if they are Alphas, so once their pride is hurt, they tend not to compromise. Could she have hurt his pride in the past?
My thoughts were disrupted by a knock at my bedroom door.
"Yes," I called to which a young man in his late twenties, having a french cut beard, tall stature, and gloomy black eyes, walked in.
"Sir, I am here to give you my report on young Master," he said very formally, standing straight like a lamp pole.
This was Rogers and the one I appointed to tail Robbie. He had been giving me information on Robbie's whereabouts and his doings for the past few years. He used to be my wife's personal servant but he was very talented and capable. I didn't want him to waste his talent being a servant, so, I replaced my wife's servant with a maid and appointed him as my personal assistant. After the person who used to look after Robbie and give me his information retired, I gave him that job as well. He was the one who informed me of Robbie's refusal of the resignation of an employee and his row with Sarah on her visit. Still, I was curious about the conversation they had. On asking Sarah, however, I did not receive much information. On that day, she appeared more agitated and distracted.
"Anything new?" I asked, sighing.
It had never been anything different or out of place. He led quite a monotonous life, going back and forth between house and hotel. On some occasions, he would take business trips or visit some high-class bars. In very rare cases, he would meet his old school and college mates but that was about it. I was glad that he stopped having one-night stands once he graduated from his college. It showed he was maturing.
"Sir, I got the information that young master had visited an employee twice this week and even spent the night over in that employee's place a few days back" he informed
This drew my attention. It was out of character for Robbie.
"Who is this employee? Did you collected his information?" I asked, closing the laptop, on which I was working.
"Yes sir" Roger answered, "His name is Tony Hawker. He had been our employee for three years and is currently working as Sous Chef in Resort Elegance"
"Is that so?" I said. What was so special about him that he personally visited him and stayed over, "What about his family and friend?"
"Sir, there only seems to be his son in the family. He is close to Hotel Exquisite's Executive Chef, Samuel Dumas, on whose recommendation, he entered the hotel."
"Hmmm" is all I could say.
Am I overthinking this? Maybe, they are just acquaintances and Robbie stayed over after a few rounds of drinks?
"There is something more I have discovered sir," Roger said, hesitating slightly.
I narrowed my eyes, "What is it?"
"It looks like Tony Hawker has hidden his true sub gender as beta. He is an Omega. It has been observed by a few that the child refers to him as 'mom'. It looks like he is the one who gave birth to the child. It is uncertain whether he is bonded or not but I assume he is as there have been no reports in these three years of any 'incidents'. It looks like he was abandoned and"
"And?" I asked, my frown deepening
Roger appeared to be hesitating again before breathing out and continuing, "And he is also the very employee whose resignation was discarded by young Master"
I was quite surprised by this news. I knew that there were several Omegas who hid their true sub-genders to get hired. But what was astonishing was Robbie's interest in him. Could it be that there is some connection between Robbie and this Omega, for him to actually trash his resignation? Was he attracted to him? This doesn't felt plausible as bonded Omegas were a huge turn-off for most Alphas as their heat doesn't affect them. That makes them feel like they are touching someone else's belonging. On top of that, he has a kid. What could possibly hold his attention to him? Could it be that that Omega is actually unbonded and successfully covered his tracks?
"Find out all the information about this Omega and keep an eye on Robbie, to see if he visits him again. Also, get me this Tony's pictures. I want to see the man, who was able to get through the cold exterior of my son" I said.
"Yes sir" Roger promptly replied and walked out.
Son, I will find out, exactly what is it that you have been hiding from me!
