Nan Feng turned his head away, but He Lanjin was now holding him by the collar. She narrowed her eyes as she looked at the mysterious man under the moonlight.
2He Lanjin looked at the side of the man's face. His profile reminded her of the night when Qiao Hanye got her those peach blossoms in the courtyard full of dogs. That night, someone grabbed her leg and prevented her from jumping into the courtyard. He even said something about consummating Qiao Hanye's marriage with her. Wasn't that man and this mysterious rider the same person? "Nan Feng?"
2"Yes," Nan Feng respectfully said as he straightened himself up. He did not, however, dare to look He Lanjin in the eye.
2Suddenly, someone pulled He Lanjin into an embrace. Qiao Hanye's magnetic voice rang as he said, "Don't scare him."
2"Young master..." Nan Feng said, his eyes lighting up. His heart was filled with affection, which he tried very hard to conceal.
2He Lanjin was surprised. It was clear from the look in Nan Feng's eyes that he admired Qiao Hanye very much.
2"Go and rest," Qiao Hanye said. Nan Feng nodded and walked toward his motorcycle.
2Qiao Hanye grabbed Nan Feng even before the latter could get on the motorcycle. "Lend me your vehicle," Qiao Hanye ordered.
2Nan Feng took a sideways glance at Qiao Hanye, who had "snatched" his beloved motorcycle. Nan Feng was stunned, but he immediately got over it and disappeared into the dark. He lit it up a cigarette and took out his phone...
2Qiao Hanye got on the motorcycle and said to He Lanjin, "Can't sleep? Let me take you for a ride."
2"Sure," He Lanjin replied as she sat behind Qiao Hanye. He stepped on the accelerator and turned a corner to brake, causing He Lanjin to crashed forward. She was so scared that she instinctively hugged Qiao Hanye on the waist.
2"Sit still," Qiao Hanye said.
2Nan Feng quietly watched from where he was standing. He scratched his head, somewhat puzzled. Why would Qiao Hanye, a racing king, display such poor driving skills and slam on the brakes?
2Nan Feng shrugged his shoulders and decided to retire for the night. When he turned around, he saw a woman kneeling on the ground. She was washing her face in a water puddle nearby.
2Nan Feng was startled, obviously traumatized by seeing He Ruoxue lifting her skirt in front of him earlier. "Why are there women everywhere?" He asked as he turned around and walked back to where he came from.
2Unknown to Nan Feng, this was the same woman he saw earlier. He Ruoxue fumed as she washed her face, the stench of urine making her mood even fouler. "This place is garbage! No wonder the earthquake struck this place and killed its people. Something's very wrong with this place; even the water is problematic. Ugh, the smell of urine makes me so angry."
2She stood up and looked at her hands. Her dainty and well-manicured nails were broken, having been used to dig the soil as she climbed out of the hole.
2Fortunately, the black widow was still in the iron box. He Ruoxue took a peek and quietly closed the iron box, holding it tightly in her hand.
2As she prepared to leave, He Ruoxue realized how tattered and muddy her clothes were. She was missing a shoe, her lips were purple from the cold and her body was shivering. The look in He Ruoxue's eyes changed as she recalled her unbearable past.
2It was a very cold night. He Ruoxue passed by the He mansion, where she first saw He Lanjin. He Lanjin was wearing a beautiful dress, sitting on a swing, and eating food that He Ruoxue could only dream about eating. He Lanjin was like a little princess compared to He Ruoxue, who had nothing.
2He Ruoxue had dreamt about replacing He Lanjin. She hoped that one day, she would become a little princess and live in the mansion.
2He Ruoxue never expected that her dream would come true. One fateful night, a guest came to their house. She heard bits of the conversation between the guest and her parents...
2"I absolutely can not go back to the past. I can't go back," He Ruoxue murmured softly as a loud noise broke her recollection.
2As He Ruoxue came back to her senses, she saw a motorcycle speeding past. He Lanjin was on it, sitting behind a man. He Lanjin let out a happy laugh as if mocking He Ruoxue for being poor and useless.
