Chương 29: A Nobel Sacrifice

Rory released a breath and calmed herself. She attentively listened to the sounds around her as she got closer to the alleyway that was blocked by a puddle.

The two men behind her were approximately 15 feet away from her and the one sent by Knox had disappeared some while ago. He had dipped down an alley way to the left, therefore more than likely he laid somewhere in the dark alley watching her.

It was unavoidable that she would have to blow her cover of being a normal teenager to get out of this mess.

Rory felt some regret when she recognized that thought. However, it didn't mean that she was dead. Knox had been suspicious of her this morning, yet he didn't make any move to harm her. That action proved that he was leaning on the side of recruiting her talent.

If that was that case, he would look for some means of controlling her. The threat of death wouldn't hold someone like her too well and he knows that.

Therefore, while he looked for some way to control her without having to worry about her biting him, she would have to do try to do the same. If a win was impossible, she would stick him with a stalemate until she could safely leave the dorm.

Rory didn't think too far ahead on that though. It was just a prediction and would only be decided by the man Knox had following her at the moment. If he attacked her once she dealt with the two ruffians, she would have her answer if she could return to her dorm safely.

20 feet…15...

When she calculated that the alley was 10 feet always from her, Rory's slow pace broke into an outright run.

She made it to the alley corner within a couple of seconds and swiftly ran down the path. She then took cover at the next alleyway turn and leaned against the wall.

One of the men's voice resounded out behind her, "Fuck I think he noticed us! Hurry up and shoot him! We've already wasted enough time."

"You don't think I would if I could? The slimy bastard took cover too quickly. Hurry your slow ass up before he gets away."

The angry one took out a gun and both started running to catch up with Rory. When they turned down the alleyway they ran into it haphazardly when they didn't see Rory.

The puddle splashed and before they could understand what was happening both of the men collapsed to the ground. Tremors went throughout their bodies as they laid in the puddle.

Noticing that everything was quiet, Rory stepped out into the alleyway. The two men heard her light footsteps but couldn't control their body enough to look in her direction. They were completely helpless and unable to move. The hunters had become the hunted.

Once she reached them Rory crouched down in front of the angry one. She took out a pencil from her bag and used it to drag the gun out of the puddle.

"Tsk. Its really a PP-9. You kids should no better than to mess with this kind of weapon." Rory touched the gun and a small amount of electricity sparked against her hand as she turned it over to look at it. The metallic black color of the gun oozed danger.

She messed with the gun a little bit outside of the men's view before stopping. With a flip of her hand she turned the gun and pressed the barrel against the previous holder's head. "Now tell me, what stops me from doing the same thing to you as you were planning to do to that cashier?"

The man's face was panicked, and he made a few noises. Unfortunately, the electricity going through his body made it impossible for him to form words.

"What was that? I couldn't quite understand you. I'll give you only one more chance to repeat yourself before I shoot." Rory's eyes were filled with ridicule.

When the man heard her words, his gargled words became even more louder and tears started to come out of his eyes.

However, despite his struggles he was met with a chillingly soulless response. "Wrong answer."

The gun clicked against his forehead, however the clear color of the puddle turned anonymously yellow instead of red.

Rory let out an enchanting laugh that caused even the person standing father down the alleyway in the shadows to have a shiver run down his back. What a sadistic person!

He held his phone up so that the person on the other side could get a clear view of what was happening. In his other hand he held a gun.

Once the scent of ammonia entered Rory's nose, she quickly stood up and took a few steps back. Her eyes looked sorrowfully at the taser laying in the puddle.

It was a noble sacrifice, but she couldn't bring herself to imagine ever holding it again. She would have to buy a new one.

The Hynes were going to pay for this sacrifice. It appeared that they were intent on killing her for a business that she didn't even want. Since that was the case she might as well give them a real reason. If they wanted war, they got it.

"The correct answer was nothing. Don't worry the taser won't kill you it should be going off soon. Thankfully, you are not one of the few people I find worth killing. And if I were you, I would keep it that way."

In the shadow's the man watched the interaction before speaking to the phone in his hand. "The person appears to be a threat. Should I eliminate them?"

"No need I have other plans for this person." Knox's cold voice left the phone causing the person to put up his gun.

"Yes sir."

Seated on the couch inside of his dorm, Knox watched Rory calmly through his laptop. As soon as his underling put up his gun, he saw the boy's lips tilt up in a smile before they turned around.

The umbrella they were carrying hid their face, however as Rory walked away, he dropped the plate of the gun he was carrying on the ground after disassembling it.

Knox's eyes glinted at the action. So, he had already noticed this entire time that he was being followed by a third person.

If he knew then why make such a rash decision to handle his adversaries in a dark alley when it left him open to an attack by the third party? Did he feel like those two kids were such a large threat? If so why?

"Aleksei, what was the name of the café he went into?"

Alekei thought a moment before responding, "It was called Metro Coffee Shop."

Knox switched his computer screen and looked up the shop. Once he found it, he sent out a signal to find out its IP address. He was soon connected to the shop's camera.

"The time in which he was in the shop?"

"It should have been around 6:30 a.m."

With that information, Knox moved the camera's time back to see Rory enter the store. He sat in the back before crossing his legs and watching the front tranquilly.

When the two men entered, he wasn't fazed at all as he uncrossed his legs and stood up. Knox could see the mischievous glint in the boy's eyes as he opened the bathroom door. From the camera's vantage point the window inside of the bathroom was picked up.

However, it was only for a moment before the door closed again and Rory rushed back to his seat.

'So that was your plan… what changed?'

Knox switched to a different camera that pointed to the direction Rory looked in before rushing back to his table.

On the screen, for a split second, he could see the metallic glint of a gun on one of the men's body by the counter. So that was the reason he risked his life? To save people he didn't even know.

For some reason laughter filled Knox's blue eyes and a curious glint appeared within them. Never in his life has he encountered such an intelligent idiot.

"Should I continue following the target?" Alekei asked when he noticed his boss hadn't responded for a while.

"No worries. I've already seen everything I needed to. They aren't a major threat."
