Chương 24: Criminal Justice

Neil Long nuzzled his sleepy wife as he slipped into bed inhaling the sweet scent of home... His working hours were getting longer and he was getting into bed later and later. Even though they were together, he had realized that he was missing her.. Missing talking to her and teasing her. Throwing an arm over her waist, he pulled her close to him, shamelessly disturbing her sleep too. Mi Rae blinked up at her husband before pouting," You should have come in even more later. Neil.."

Before Mi Rae could scold him, Neil stole the words from her mouth with a kiss while his hand went to her waist explore the softness there. It was well past midnight and Neil only wanted to bully his wife. It had been so long.. As the air in the bedroom turned heated, Neil slowly turned over, turning his wife under him.. But before the couple could proceed any further, the cell phone placed on the bed side table started to ring loudly.

With every intention to ignore the ringing, Neil continued to nibble at Mi Rae's soft skin until finally Mi Rae pushed him off before saying, "It could be something urgent." Breathing hard, Neil fell on his back with a sigh but pulled Mi Rae close, over his chest...Checking the display, he frowned at the unknown number before growling angrily at the caller, "Hello?"

But what he heard from the caller made him almost push Mi Rae and got up.. Luckily for him, Mi Rae understood him well and got up the moment he stiffened. Getting up, Neil turned on the speaker phone, letting Mi Rae hear what the other person had to say," Sir, we are calling from the automobile branch of Lance Inc., we have just received information from the Police in Townhall B town. Matt Long's car was in an accident. A four car accident.. Insurance had been called and we will be sending someone to survey tomorrow. But as per the procedure we need to know if we need to bring a replacement car and the police report of how the accident happened. But the police are not yet telling us anything. They wanted to know about the owner and everything. As a policy, we refused to tell them anything as well. You are listed as an emergency contact for Matt Long so we can only request you to help us find the relevant information and let us know."

For the first time in his life Neil, felt a strange roaring sound in his head as the words accident and Matt seemed to circle in his brain. Flashes of the time when their parents had died in an accident and then their brother had suffered and finally when Su Jianan had been lost to them...they were all going around in his head. No, their family could not lose any more members. It was only Mi Rae's hand on his shoulder that kept him sane as she tried to get his attention. While Neil sat in silent tormented thoughts, Mi Rae had already dialed the number of the police station in townhall B. and was speaking into the phone, "Hello Officer. My name is Mi Rae Long. May I know who I am talking to?" when a bored voice sounded," This is Deputy Kim. Why are you calling at this time? If there is an emergency then you need to contact the emergency number."

Just as the Deputy was about to disconnect the call, Mi Rae asked with authority, "There was an automobile accident in your town a while back. We need the details of the victims and survivors."

The deputy was enraged at being talked to like this and that too by a woman so he snapped back," Look, if you need to know anything, just call the hospital and ask. The police is not here to answer your questions!"

That said, the deputy sheriff banged down the phone irritated at the work that the accident had piled up for them. Just then the sheriff returned to the office after a break and groaned as he sat, "Dam*it. The mayor has gone crazy. We don't know the identity of the other man and even as our men subtly tried to find the identity thy failed. The man only provided with basic details. Maybe he is only a simple citizen. It is possible the car was rented.. If that Matt Long had been someone with authority then he would be flexing his power over all of us. Did you find anything from the automobile company?"

The deputy sheriff shook his head before answering," They only confirmed the name of the owner as Matt Long and refused to give any information. I guess we will have to go according to the Mayor's wish.

Just as the deputy's report was finished, the computer on the table dinged with an incoming email. This caused the Sheriff to frown as he wondered why they would receive an official email in the middle of the night, his eyes widened in disbelief. It was a direct order from the office of the Criminal Justice of their country! And they wanted the report of the accident submitted in an hour!

while the Sheriff felt his head spin, the Deputy Sheriff leaned over and read the email.. It was only as he reached the end of the mail and read the sign did he feel a shiver of fright run through him...It was signed Mi Rae Long..
