Chương 3: Wand pt.2

Miles seeing Patricia didn't want to talk about it, didn't continue to ask. Just as he was about to change the topic they heard a familiar noise. It was Kai, their messenger eagle.

Patricia opened the door and in came a huge golden eagle through it. The eagle flew around the room as it finally landed on Miles' shoulder. Miles took out the letter that was tied to Kai's feet and gave it to Patricia.

"Who's it from?"

"It's from work," Patricia replied sighing. She took the letter and thoroughly read it as she looked at Archer, "And here I thought being a freelancer was an easy thing."

"What happened?" Miles asked.

"The contractor wants me to solve their issues with the ruins since the one from Gringotts couldn't." Patricia said, "I am truly retiring after this."

"It's okay," Miles said as he knew what was concerning her, "I'll be fine and didn't you say you'll send Bill to go with me."

"Sigh! I am sorry." Patricia kneeled to Miles level as she hugged him, "You remember everything I told you before right?"

"I know." Miles nodded, "Dumbledore is too clever so don't try to outsmart him, stay as far as away as possible. The guy named Snape hates you so he'll likely make my time difficult in Hogwarts and there is a lot of staff that don't really like you but they aren't too bad, so they likely won't cause me any trouble."

"And be sure to not be in Slytherin." Patricia nodded, "Because?"

"Because the truly cunning ones will never be in a place that lets everyone know they are the shrewd type." Miles said, "I'll try to be as docile as possible but its all for the hat to decide, isn't it?"

"It is but for those with a strong will and intent they get to do it themselves." Patricia said, "I did it."

Miles nodded as he looked at Patricia carefully. Ever since he had come to this world, he had never been away from her a lot, so he knew he was going to miss her. Patricia took out her ornamental eye of Horus badge from her robe and pinned it on Miles.

"I couldn't think of anything but since you like the way I do my work, this should be helpful." Patricia said taking out a leather holster from her robe, "It's enchanted to fit any and every wand, so I hope it helps you. Though I won't be there at Christmas, I promise you that I'll be there to pick you up at the end of the year."

Mile took the holster and nodded, hugging her again.

"Okay, I'll leave now." Patricia said, "That apprentice of mine should reach here any moment and he'll drop you off safely. I don't know why you suddenly want to go to Hogwarts so badly, but be very careful."

Miles nodded as he knew what Patricia meant. The fact that he was an 'animagus' and could transform into a wolf was a secret no one other than Patricia knew and they planned to keep it that way until he was old enough to not draw attention on himself for being an animagus at such a young age.

Patricia smiled and messed his hair as she stood up. She took a final look at Miles as she apparated away.

"Where did she go?" John came back with a box in his hand.

"Work." Miles replied simply in a monotone voice not going into depths about it as he looked at the box, "What is that?"

Understanding Miles didn't want to continue, John didn't ask further as he opened the box taking out a medium sized transparent crystal ball, "This my friend is a magical device created to know what wand suits you the best."

"How does it work?" Miles intrigued by the device asked as he sat on the chair over the counter.

"You see most wand makers when selling their wands depend largely on how they feel about the buyers' personality, though the experts with an innate ability are good at it, normal wand makers like us aren't." John explained, carefully placing the device on the counter, "So to avoid wasting the buyers time by having him test out every wand in the shop we use this device."

Miles nodded in understanding as John continued, "Now place your hand on top of the ball and try pouring your magic in it."

Miles did as he was told and concentrated on pouring his magic out and before he knew it, the ball started changing color into a dark purplish one with a flash of yellow colored lights thrown here and there.

"What does it mean?" Miles asked as he looked confused.

"What do you think it represents?" John asked a question back looking carefully at the crystal.

"Lightning?" Miles guessed.

"Correct." John nodded, "Magic is a form of nature and like nature there exist different elements in magic. Like Fire and Water. Though it doesn't mean much it still helps determine the personality of a wizard. Like how Fire would be a hot-headed person and Water would be a calm one."

"So what does lightning represent?"

"Lightning is one of the unique elements, to be honest, I have never seen one before and only have heard of it." John said, "It represents something more than just simple. A personality that can't be defined with just a couple of words."

"So basically someone unique."

"Yes in one way." John said nodding, "But if someone were to define the element with one word, it would be 'chaos'."

"I can see why you have the element. My father used to tell me about your mother having the same element in magic. And as you know she is willful as one can be, arrogant, intelligent and very clever, an all in one package." Seeing Miles confused and a bit worried expression, John quickly said to dissolve the misunderstanding the other party might have.

"So what is your relationship with my mother?" Miles asked wondering what all the giving up life talk was all about and now his father even knew her. Though Patricia didn't talk about it, he was hoping to get at least some answers from John.

"We do go a long way back, your mother and I. I got acquainted with her in one of her adventures." John said with his eyes staring into the distance as he shook his head, "But I do owe your mother a huge favor, but seeing her wasting it truly makes me feel a bit worthless."

"It's not a waste if you can do what you can do best to repay the favor." Miles said a bit bluntly getting tired of all the vagueness, "Seeing she bought me straight to you makes me wonder how good of a wand-maker you are."

"And here I thought you won't be that heartless." John laughed, "Come back with me, let's choose your wand."
