Spring of that year, just a couple of weeks after Fanya's unannounced visit, Shitara gave birth to a beautiful baby girl who looked more like her father but with her mother's silver-grey eyes and raven hair. The birth should have been a merry occasion – at least it was what Perun and Shitara had been dreaming about for months since they found out they'd be parents. However…
"My love, please save her," the weakened woman pleaded as she reached out her hand to her husband.
Perun took her hand in his as he watched in helplessness as his wife struggled in between consciousness. The emotional burden and the exhaustion from childbirth had taken a toll on her mortal body and she was slipping away slowly.
"I will. Don't worry about her. I will not let Czernobog and Fanya have their way," he promised. As soon as Fanya left, he had vowed that he'd move heaven and earth to find a way to break their daughter's cursed existence.
