Quiet was the word to describe the 17-year-old high-schooler. He did not grow up having the things most children his age had. He did not grow up with the love of his mother or father. He did not have the protection of older siblings when other children began their teasing. He did not have a place to call home. He was practically alone. The only person in his life that had shown him any sort of concern was Father Mark, the priest of the church at which Kei had been abandoned. When he was thrown away like garbage on that dark and stormy night, Father Mark had taken in the starving infant and had given him food and a place to stay. Father Mark even used tides to send the young Kei to school. He had provided a lot for Kei in his earlier years, and for that Kei was grateful. That, however, did not fill the void in Kei's soul after he realized he was akin to trash to his birth parents. Thrown away, unwanted, and forgotten. Knowing this and being at the violent hands of his peers from his early years, Kei began showing signs of autism. He stopped talking and expressing his emotions on his face. He had hoped that that would stop the other children from bothering him, but that incited even more interest towards him. He tried to stop caring, but it hard to stop caring when the world constantly shouts that you are lesser than others.
In no time Kei reached the Library doors. As Kei pushed open the doors of the Library to carry out the sentence given by the Headmaster, three boys stepped out in front of Kei, blocking his path. One of the boys was only 5'11, much shorter than Kei, but with his arrogant attitude made him seem taller than Kei by 16 cm. This was the self- proclaimed ringleader of the bullies at the Academy, Jeremey Fincher. As the heir of the Fincher Group, the leading company in automobile and motor parts, Jeremy thought extremely highly of himself. Everyone needed a car and only the Fincher group made the best quality parts.
"Hey, Maimon. Where do you think you're going, hmm?"
Kei simply looked down. It was going to be one of those nights. Kei didn't want to fight but it didn't seem like Jeremy was going to let him go.
"Yo! Dumba*s! Jeremy is talking to you!" said a stubby boy to the left of Jeremy. On the right of Jeremy was a lanky ginger who was snickering.
With that, the lanky ginger grabbed Kei by the hair and dragged him inside the building. Tossing his body onto the nearest table. The boy on the left, known by most of the school as 'Jeremy's muscle' held Kei against the table top. The lanky ginger, who was snickering, leaned over Kei.
"I see the Headmaster ain't did shit to you! Ha, you're just a poster boy. An orphan the school uses for clout. But we'll fix that." The ginger spit a glob of mucus onto Kei's cloud-like brown hair. Kei grimaced as he felt the red-heads spit touch his scalp.
Outside the sky was rapidly getting dark as a uninvited storm brewed above the school's library. A sudden cold wind slammed into the already humid and stagnant atmosphere causing a deafining thunder clamp.
'BOOOM'
The 'Muscle' was momentarily frightened by the sudden sound so much that he flinched. This momentary flinch was enough for Kei to slip from under his hand and run deep into the library.
"CHASE HIM" shrieked Jeremy. The lanky boy gave a quick glare towards the muscle headed boy before sprinting in Kei's direction. Kei ran as fast as he could as he heard the Lanky boy's footsteps rapidly getting closer.
The way that the library was set up was that there were tables for reading at the front near the entrance and front desk followed by 12 large rows of bookshelves. Past these twelve shelves ere another twelve lined up perpendicular to the first. To the left of the final shelf was a flight of spiraling stairs that lead to the second level in which the donors of the school had provided a mini coffee shop, study rooms, and even a hi-tech multi-media room. The library had a grand crystal dome for a roof that gave it an aura d'élégance. From this crystal roof, red lightning could be seen flashing causing an elongated shadow to be seen squatting for only a second. No one within the confines of the library noticed the shadow but the shadow was intently watching the chase below. The shadow whispered a few silent words into the rain, and, like magic, its already long body stretched even more as it shaped three hound-like creatures from itself. These shadow hounds nodded at the shadow and entered the library to complete their mission.
Kei hid behind a bookshelf hoping that the ginger boy would not be able to find him. 'Damn,' thought Kei as he tried to control his frantic breathing. 'I wish I could just beat these as*hats to death'. Although Kei had fought before, he had never won a fight. He was always beaten until he passed out. It wasn't because he didn't know how to, but rather that his body seemed to move way to slow and always lacked the power that a healthy teen his age, height, and weight would generally have when throwing blows. The only thing he could do with this type of body was run away. This made him feel very ashamed of himself as a man (a soon to be fully-grown man).
"Come on out, KEI!! You come out now, and we'll go slightly easier on you!" the ginger giggled manically. At this moment, Kei understood why it was said that gingers had no souls. This boy, if given the resources, would most definitely be a serial killer. Kei shivered.
As the freckled face boy slowly got closer and closer. He began whistling lick he was calling for a dog. "Come here, boy! Come here Ke~i!"
As he stepped closer in the direction of the hiding Kei, a book fell directly behind him. 'Got him,' the ginger thought as he turned around. However, instead of seeing Kei's pathetic face, he was instead face to face with a void of black.
At the front of the library, Jeremy and the Muscle were still standing there, waiting for their comrade to bring back their sniveling prey.
