EXTRA CHAPTER: The 20th of June
The 20th of June, the day of independence of the people of the Republic of Easting from their foreign rulers. It is the day that is always remembered and treasured by the citizens of their country. For this day blood and tears brought forth the very rewards of their sacrifices and the heroes that lead them.
The 20th of June 1955 C.Y. marks the end of Atlantican rule over the territory. From that day on, the Republic of Easting was no longer a Commonwealth but a recognized state. Sovereign and has the right for self-rule, it is the first of the commonwealth nations of the Atlantican Federation granted independence.
The territory once belonged to the Leondrian Empire until the revolution during the early 20th century. During this time, revolutionists and martyrs were summarily executed for treason. After his execution the name Romero Pateros and several of the martyrs became a battlecry for a revolution.
As the revolution for self-governance was at its peak, the Leondrians who seeks to redeem itself from shame ceded the territories to the emerging Atlantican Federation. For the amount of ten million Atlantican Dollars a treaty was signed by the two consenting powers. Thus the Southeastern Indies Purchase was signed under the Treaty of Collins.
Once allied to the Eastings the Atlanticans faced on their former allies who wishes to put the entire archipelago under their contorl. However the Eastings proved to be a formidable enemy despite incurring heavy losses against them. Recognizing their fighting spirit, the Atlanticans negotiated with the Eastings. This saw an opportunity for the pro-Atlantican side of the government which accepted the deal. As a result the revolution ended swiftly without any more bloodshed. The anti-Atlantican side of the government exiled themselves in seeing their efforts had ended up in vain.
The Republic of Easting joined the Commonwealth of Nations under the Atlantican Federation. Under the treaty the country is to be granted independence during the 1930s, however it was not until two years before the end of the decade a great war started.
The great war, the war that was said to end all wars thought that it would only last for three years spanned for at least eight. Damage to lives and property was massive including the Republic of Easting itself which was a former territory of the Atlantican Federation.
From 1955 C.Y. onward the world has known peace. Never did nations wage war to each other but through diplomacy. Despite of that numerous conflicts and proxy wars existed but not on the same scale as the great war happened. However the recent expansionism of the United Republics of Qina has caused conflicts in the Asean region. The western powers which included the Atlantican Federation and the United Kingdom of Leondria were concerned. Thus began to exercise their rights in the so-called international waters in the East Yalu Sea with their freedom of navigation operations.
The people of the Republic of Easting fears of a new war that may be waged in their backyard as the nation of Qina refuses to back down to its claims in the Yalu Sea. The eastern expanse belongs to them the government claims which angers not only the Atlanticans and the Leondrians but also their neighbors in the region. The current Qina is a rising superpower thus holds one of the most powerful military in the region.
During the recent Independence Day Celebrations. The current President of the Republic of Easting, Samuel Roa assures the people of the Country of Easting and the President of the United Republics of Qina that he will pursue the path of peace between the two nations. He assumes a friendlier stance with his neighbor and colder relations towards the west. In his speech during the Independence Day Celebrations he said.
"The time has come for us not to isolate ourselves to our neighbors. We have to make friends not only to the west but also to the rest of the world. We should forget all grudges, leave ignorance of the past behind and educate ourselves to be prepared for the future. My countrymen, it is my duty as a president to lead you into a better future. It begins with us, not the west, not the Leondrians and the Atlanticans nor the Qinese. Just as how you love your country in your hearts. It we should work hard for its future!"
After his speech, the people cheered and was happy hoping that their new leader will lead them to a better future. One thing he got right is that the people of his country still loves their nation. They only need better leaders who will lead them. The country of Easting still stands today as a nation through their desire of a united country. The 20th of June reminds and unites the people of the Republic of Easting of their national identity. Their pride for their fellow countrymen and themselves as its citizens.
