Kitrid started breaking into a cold sweat, because Meera's point was quite valid. Best way to deal with a horde this size is to deal with the alpha. The problem was that in this case the alpha might be too strong for them to handle, so Kitrid was not sure how they were going to go about it.
"What is taking Tyson so long? The support he promised should be here by now" Kitrid was fighting on the east wall facing the south east direction from which the horde was coming from. Due to the fact that his troops faced the full brunt of the horde, the elder council had promised support. Tyson Cole represented the elders by giving his word that he would send reinforcement if they were in dire straits.
At the moment they had lost thousands of men. Thousands more were injured and even more were to fall in battle if this were to continue. The birds in the sky and the beasts on the ground formed a perfect combination minimizing all the advantages Kitrid and his troops had.
The rhinoceros behemoths had a defence few weapons could penetrate while the thunder birds had agility and long range attacks that gave Kitrid's crew headaches. Meera still remembered the horror of the Thunderbird she had just slaughtered. Had her brother not interfered, she would have lost her life. Meera was among the most gifted of all the soldiers, so one can imagine the difficulties the others were facing that's when it happened.
Kitrid felt a tingle at the back of his neck and was forced to look up at the sky. Due to the fact that Meera had just slayed the alpha Thunderbird, the rest of the birds were flying in a disorderly manner. The archers time had an easier time dealing with the them, but the creatures were still as ferocious as before. Yet from nowhere the daemons started falling one by one headless; their bodies void of life.
At first only a few fell down but then a few became a dozen and then a dozen became hundreds at a time. It was an incredible spectacle that caught the attention of the majority of the soldiers fighting.
"Could a fusion realm expert have taken action?" This was what most of the soldiers were thinking but it didn't make sense because there was no indication of any action taken. All that one could see was dropping daemons nothing more nothing less. As if there were fruits being picked out of the sky by the hands of a deity.
Normally when a fusion realm expert acted the surrounding environment would be affected. World energy would fluctuate chaotically while the earth trembled and the winds howled, at least this is what the legends said, after all, most of the soldiers here have seen a fusion realm expert in action at all let alone see one period. So this odd sight of seeing daemons get decapitated whilst they were in the sky came as a surprise to everyone, especially to Kit and Meera.
On top of the wall a bit of a distance away from the two, Kenshin stood waving his two swords about. The man was like a ghost, a spectre. None of the soldiers on the wall noticed his presence whilst his movement were so fast it was like he was flickering in and out of existence. Every time his sword moved a score of Thunderbirds would drop dead. Even if they were miles apart. This was the power of a teacher who had comprehended the dao to such an extent.
Kenshin was not using any qi or any energy of any sorts. All he was using was intent. The sword was not tainted at all as it took life after life non stop. It was sharp and ruthless beheading its victims while non the wiser. Unlike Bastian, Kenshin was a master of sword intent.
He had started training with swords from the time he had the ability to grasp anything within his hands. It had now reached a point whereby if Kenshin was too far away from any swords, he would feel a void inside himself.
Kitrid never would have thought that a teacher capable of using such sword intent was capable of existing in this world. Generally one would only be able to grasp a small wisp on intent the moment they became a teacher or scholar, and Kitrid was no different. From time to time his attacks were laced with intent but it was so weak the effects were barely negligible. It was thought to be common sense among cultivators that one can only be able to master intent when they entered the fusion realm. Yet Kenshin had shattered that thought into pieces
Only Kitrid was aware of Kenshin's existence. Whether that was due to his high cultivation, or whether Kenshin had intentionally done so was unknown. All Kitrid knew was that the backup he had been promised had arrived. Tyson Col had manged to keep his word. Many a soldier had died, but their deaths were not in vain.
As Kitrid and Meera saw the birds fall from the sky like rain during a storm, a feeling of powerlessness overwhelmed them. This was the difference in strength between them and a true expert!
Meera could not grasp Kenshin's silhoutte, but she could tell that an expert was at work. She longed to one day she the point whereby she could wipe out an army of daemons with such ease.
The soldiers on the group could not understand what was happening, but they didn't need to. All they had to know was that their lives were now much easier. The threat of the Thunderbirds was just far too menacing. Now that they had been taken care of, they could focus on the rhinos with peace of mind, knowing that they would not be ambushed, caught unawares.
This was the difference between having an expert and having a paragon!
