Pacing back and forth, Mei-Xing couldn't get Mei Lein's words out of her mind. This girl and her emotional torture, she thought with frustration. Seriously, why do women act so melodramatic when it comes to heartbreak? Statistically, men suffer more... She scoffed internally. And now she's getting married? To who? A stranger? Oh, give me a break!
Time passed in silence. Mei Lein eventually emerged from the bathroom, cleaned up and a little more clear-headed. She didn't glance at Mei-Xing, and Mei-Xing, in turn, said nothing. The tension between them remained thick, unspoken.
Mei Lein crawled into bed, trying to find some peace, but sleep eluded her. The events of the day gnawed at her, twisting her emotions further. And Mei-Xing didn't leave her side. She sat silently on the sofa, watching over her sister for the rest of the night.
