"Dad... are you busy?" Alex asked after she knocked on the door of his dad's study room and opened it.
Tom immediately gave a warm smile after hearing her precious daughter's voice.
"What is it my dear? You know I can even stop a flying airplane if you tell me to."
"You know that I really hate to disturb you unless it's a matter of life and death," Alex joked.
"That I know too well that's why I can do anything if you disturbed me once because I know the matter is highly important."
Yes. Alex was just as very understanding as her late mother. She never once complained nor act like a spoiled brat because she knew thousands of people are working under Lopez Corporation and they are relying to Tom. And even at the age of 10, she sometimes accompanies her father to his office and help with some works. (That's how of a genius she is!) Tom thought she was just shuffling the papers at first so she just let her be but was amazed later when Alex asked him to check her work. From then on, he let her learn and help from the side without forcing her.
"I know you might be angry at me or even disown me for this. I know I'm being reckless and not thinking of how you would feel but --" Alex was not able to finish the confession that she practiced for some hours.
"You're pregnant?" Tom calmly asked but sadness was written all over his face.
Alex' eyes widened in shock.
"How did you know?"
"You said I might get angry or disown you and that you are being reckless. What can be the reasons for kids to say that? Either you did something illegal, do drugs, or you're pregnant. Seeing you all well and healthy, just feeling guilty, I know to my heart it's not the first two options. And there you are looking fresh and happy and something weird that I cannot perfectly define just made you a lot more beautiful. I know that aura. I've seen that in Molly when she was carrying you in her belly. You are pregnant." Tom explained in his still calm manner.
Pausing for a while he continued, "And with that reaction of yours, it's a 100% confirmation."
"But why are you not shouting at me? Why aren't you angry? Or why not even shocked? I've disappointed you dad. I'm such a disgrace to you!"
"Do you take me as an old-fashioned man? People outside will say a lot of things but do they matter? No, right?"
Alex could no longer hold her tears. She cried happily as she listened to her father's words.
"By the way dad... I need to move out soon so I can-"
Alex was still searching for the right words to say when Tom put his index finger on her mouth.
"You don't need to say it. Alexandria Heights was already built and the units are ready for occupancy. The penthouse is already named after you."
"Are you kidding dad? I've heard it has the best security and privacy among the hotels and condominiums our company built!"
"Just for you my dear. Anything for you."
They hugged each other. Alex decided to pack her things immediately.
Outside the study room, anger and jealousy were overflowing someone's heart.
