Quince bowed down slightly as he extended his hand over to her. He still had that signature non expression on his face when he asked for the dance.
At that moment, Queen went from frustrated to shocked so fast she could barely keep up her with her emotions.
Her heart fluttered and she grasp her chest lightly to calm it down. She didn't know why she was feeling so excited. In a daze, she reached out her hand to accept his.
As soon as Quince felt her hand on his, he clutched it tight, as if afraid she would let go. He led her to the dance floor as the music began.
Queen looked straight into in his eyes as she waltzed in rhythm to the music. The soft music gave the illusion that they were the only one dancing on the dance floor.
Queen felt her nose tinged as she started remembering the past events. It had truly been too long. She felt so nostalgic that she wanted to cry.
'It's been so long since we last danced together...Luna.' She thought sadly.
Quince was looking into her eyes as well. One moment she was looking at him and the next he felt like she wasn't. Even though her eyes were boring into his, he couldn't see the usual mischief or even a spark of recognition there.
It was as if she was looking at someone else through him. And he hated it. He didn't know why but he simply didn't want to be a substitute for whomever she is thinking of.
With that thought in mind, he pulled her closer than necessary and spoke softly into her ears, "I thought you wanted to dance?"
Queen felt something lightly brush against her ear and in that moment, she finally saw him. That lively sparkle was back in her beautiful golden eyes and it was finally reflecting him.
Satisfaction briefly flashed across Quince's grey eyes as he managed to get her attention back on him.
"Indeed Master Quince." Queen laughed airily, joy beaming in her eyes. She was going to enjoy her present moment with him, after all her Luna was finally standing right in front of her.
"Then why" Quince said as he spun her, "did you look so unhappy?"
"Unhappy?" Queen asked as she stepped closer in tune with the music, looking confused.
"When you danced with that blondie just now." Quince clarified.
"That blondie" Queen emphasized, "is called Mister Hugo Blake. You should know that he is a big client of your company."
"I know that. But how do you?" Quince asked.
"It's not a secret or anything. I do watch the news you know." Queen rolled her eyes as she replied.
Quince couldn't help smiling lightly at her annoyed tone. It was right when she had to look the other way according to the dance steps, so she missed it.
"And" Queen continued when she looked back at him, "I was smiling the whole time. Didn't you see?"
"How would you define a smile Miss Meilleure?" Quince quirk one of his eyebrows up as he questioned her.
"It is when your lips turn up in joy Master Quince. Something you obviously can't seem to do." Queen replied throwing a light jab at him.
"You just said the key word, Miss Meilleure. 'In joy'. Just now your smile looked as if it was simply glued to your face." Quince pointed out.
"You mean like this?" Queen said as she immediately pulled a blank smile on her face.
"Not really." Amusement and mirth was reflected in Quince's eyes as soon as he saw that expression on her face.
She probably didn't know it, but right now, her eyes glittered way too bright for her to pull that blank smile on successfully.
"Mmph" Queen snorted before dropping her smile. She decided to change the topic. "So Master Quince, It seems like this is the last dance before midnight."
Quince didn't say anything in reply as he waited for her to continue.
"I have heard that midnight is a magical time. It's the end of a day and the beginning of a new one...." Queen trailed off.
Quince was getting curious about what this little girl was up to. She was saying strange stuff again and he wasn't sure what she's trying to convey.
Though he didn't have to wonder for long. At that moment, the lights suddenly went out. There were light shrieks and chattering as people tried to find balance or look for someone they know. Everyone was panicking and moving about restlessly.
Quince immediately pulled Queen into his arms and held her tight.
"What did you do little girl?" He whispered dangerously into her ears. He was gritting his teeth to control himself from throwing her into the ocean.
He heard her usual light laughter and before he could question her further, there was light shining from the other direction.
Well, this chapter is certainly longer than what I thought would be~ Curious about the surprise Queen has in store? I certainly am! Please vote for the story! Thank you!
