Yun was confused by Zhu Cai's statement that there was a problem with her spear, and even more by the statement that a different name would be more appropriate. How could there be a problem with a spear that was so strong? Nothing she had subjected it to could do any harm to it at all so far.
"Let me clarify, Yun'er, before you get too confused. The weapon doesn't have something wrong with it in a bad way. It's not broken or damaged, in fact it's better than it was when it was made!"
"Wait... better than when you made it? How is that possible Cai'er? This Yun doesn't understand what you mean."
"Let me ask you a question, Yun'er. Do you think that we Lynhär, the Volvaka, and the Eizuru are the only intelligent life?"
Yun shook her head, "This Yun is unsure. Please explain."
"We are certainly not the only intelligent life, Yun'er. We crafting masters are the first to learn that out of all the people, and this is for a very specific reason. Items can possess spirits and intelligence, so can pills of a high enough level. Materials that are old enough and strong enough can develop spirits as well!"
This information was more than a little shocking to Yun, but something about it was nagging at the back of her mind. Zhu Cai didn't leave her in the dark for too long, seeing the look on her face.
"Your weapon has somehow developed a spirituality. It's young, it hasn't developed enough to communicate, but it's growing. This is incredible, normally a weapon doesn't become spiritual for thousands of years, and then doesn't become aware for thousands more years. You have an opportunity to develop and grow your weapon. It will begin to take on the elemental properties that it's used with while in this state, and as its exclusive owner you can make it stronger and stronger in your hands. You now have the perfect weapon for you, and no other weapon will compare with it while it's in your hands."
Yun's eyes lost focus, she was too shocked by this information. There was no way she could have anticipated this. Item spirits? A growing weapon? This was too unbelievable! She was struggling to drag her thoughts back out of the mire they had fallen into, back into normal speed and cognition.
"Does this mean... that I should keep this spear as my main weapon?"
"Of course it does, are you muddle-headed? This is your chance to grow an ideal weapon for you! Amplify your use of laws and elemental energy by allowing your weapon to gain these powers!
"Now, let's set this issue aside Yun'er. Can you focus on something else, or are you too astounded?"
Yun shook her head for a moment, "I... This Yun needs a moment. Please."
Zhu Cai stood from the seat she was in and placed the spear down in front of Yun before standing in another area of the room and waiting. After an incense stick of time Yun had dragged her thoughts back to reality and looked up, putting her weapon away in the process.
"What else did you have to talk about, Cai'er? I know this wasn't everything on your docket."
Raising her eyebrow at the change in speech pattern, Zhu Cai continued on anyways. "You left me such a mountain of materials that I couldn't stop myself from making so many things. You told me before you have a dual elemental affinity, and that the Immortal Wyrm hide that was wrapped around your spear actually conducts Lightning elemental energy and dissipates heat.
"As a result of that knowledge I took the liberty of weaving a new Sect uniform for you, and with the use of a few other materials that came from the other kills you left behind accomplished something even more amazing."
Zhu Cai reached around into a shelf and took out a nearly pitch black uniform of the sort that was worn in the Sect. With this uniform was a Direct Disciple patch that could be removed.
"Yun'er, come here and hold this." Zhu Cai held out the uniform top to Yun and waited. When Yun had quietly taken it from her she gave her another instruction.
"Use your spiritual energy to inspect it, then give it a color with your thoughts."
Yun looked strangely at Zhu Cai, but tried to do as she was told. She closed her eyes and investigated the black robe with her spiritual strength, seeing that there was seemingly nothing special about it. Opening her eyes and looking at it she thought it looked a little different from what she had seen before, darker and more black.
"Yun, close your eyes and imagine it's green like the disciple robes while you investigate with your spirit."
Yun followed directions, and when she opened her eyes she was flabbergasted. "How... How is this possible? Color changing fabrics!?"
The article in her hands was exactly the color she had imagined when she ran her spiritual strength over it. Her brain stopped again, her face a blank stare of awe.
Zhu Cai walked over to her and leaned over to whisper in her ear, "You're cute when your brain breaks."
Yun dropped the cloth in shock and staggered back, staring at Zhu Cai in shock.
"Did you think I was being serious? Heh, I was trying to shock you back in to rationality silly. Yun'er look at the robe again, there on the floor."
Looking down she spotted the dark black robe on the floor again. "What? Was the green my imagination?"
No, that was definitely real. This material could definitely change colors at will, but seemed to have no memory for this, as when it lost contact with the source of the change it couldn't hold on to it.
"Cai'er. . . How did you do this? What is this?"
"As I told you before, this is a new robe weaved from the Immortal Wyrm hide's fibers. It's the same as the armor you wear and the wrap on your spear shaft. The only difference is that I used some other materials to apply a spiritual color to it!"
"What? What is a spiritual color?"
"Exactly what you've just experienced! It's a material that can change color but not retain it without the host. This is your new uniform and armor in one!"
