Maggie hated Latin. It was one of the subjects that she was forced to take by her sister. Elena wanted Maggie to be able to decipher all the spells in her several grimoires but Maggie was nowhere close to being a witch. She wasn't even a supernatural. It was just that the Guardian's powers never affected her memory and she remembered her childhood, all the versions of it.
"Excited to see the new teacher? I heard they got him all the way from Italy," Stacy, the cheerleading princess was gushing to her friends.
Maggie smirked. With every new teacher in their school, this was something that was normal. The teenage girls got excited and she got bored. They would fawn over the new teacher for a few days before declaring him too boring or too bald.
"Bongiorno everyone," a voice startled Maggie's thoughts and she looked up to see the teacher's eyes fixed keenly on her. As their eyes met Maggie knew there was something different about him that she couldn't fathom. He looked drop-dead gorgeous. His voice had a thick masculine husk to it. Yet the attraction she felt was not carnal, not that she would understand what that is.
For Dannie, on the other hand, the realization was like a bulldozer ramming into him. The lapiz lazuli eyes captivated him. The pale skin sang to him and the beautiful heart-shaped face framed in flowing golden brown hair smelled of an alluring rose. Dannie knew that this was no ordinary girl and his stakes had just gone up.
"Ciao mia caro, I am Daniel Selvatico, your new Latin teacher. I do hope that in the course of the coming months you will be able to decipher something from this class. Latin, as you know, was the language of the church for a very long time and before that, it was the language of the Roman empire. It has left such an influence on all European as well as non-European cultures that a majority of words in most western languages contain a Latin root if not Greek. Essentially Greek and Latin are the two classical languages on which most of our language systems are based," he slowly recited. Daniel noticed that all the young girls in his class had fallen into a daze, all except one. It was once that the other girls were unconscious that Daniel finally looked at his angel. When he did he could not mask the demon essence trying to jump out at her.
Maggie noticed the teacher's eyes turning pitch black for the fraction of a second. She credited that to her imagination. Owing to her upbringing she had witnessed all kinds of creatures and none had eyes that turned pitch black. Maggie looked around her and saw that the entire class was in deep sleep or was unconscious. Taking her cue Dannie looked around her as well with eyes returning to rest on her. " What do you know I put them to sleep on my very first day? I am quite disappointed with my own performance," he confided in the only student paying attention to him.
"I apologize on their behalf. I was quite engrossed in your narrative," Maggie confessed.
"What is your name Angela?" Dannie asked trying to hide the strain of desire in his voice.
"My name is Margaret Gilbert," she replied. Dannie smirked at her admission.
"How old are you Ms Gilbert?" he asked.
"I am seventeen but I turn eighteen in a month. Why do you ask?" She asked the new teacher shyly. Her eyes were drawn to the doodle as it turned out on the top of her notebook. She wasn't looking forward to her birthday because it would mean that she would have failed her guardian training by another year. Elena began her training on her fifteenth birthday. She said that it was her purpose of being and Mom and Dad died trying to protect her from her destiny.
"I ask because the moment you turn eighteen you will become mine in every sense of the word," Dannie warned and Maggie looked up sharply doubting what her ears had heard. When she found that the teacher was dead serious she tried to show outrage but failed miserably. "You are my school teacher," she argued.
"I shall not be for long," Dannie promised and Maggie looked back down, intimidated by his possessive stare. However, she couldn't help the smile that graced her lips as she resumed her doodling.
