Chương 9: Well well well

The sky was cloudy that were just barely letting the sun rays shine through with no rain. A strong wind was blowing as a man with a long trench coat stood in front of a school waiting. The sound of a bell went off with children running out of the school gates a few minutes after. The man scanned the group of children running out looking for something. He frowned as he didn't find what he was looking for. However he felt a light tap on his leg which brought a huge smile on his face. Looking down he saw the joy of his life.

"haha dad you couldn't find me!" His daughter laughed and told him. She was 6 years old about to turn seven. She had long curly brown hair and eyes, and light skin. When she laughs and smiles small dimples appear on her cheeks.

"I know you had me worried Curly. So how did you hide from me?" The man picked up his daughter and began to walk.

"Hehe. I was hiding behind a tall kid and followed him to come behind you."

The man laughed "Oh is that how? Now that I know why don't you try it again next time. See if I can't catch you."

The little girl laughed and rubbed her head into his shoulder getting comfortable.

Keres woke up early in the morning with a little smile on his face. Mumbling to himself. "I miss you curly." Keres began to get dressed.

*Knock*

"Come in." Keres loudly said.

The door opened and a man looking to be in his forties came in. He was a tall lanky bald man with a rough beard. He was wearing a grey butlers outfit with black dress shoes and red tie. He was sporting a little grin and spoke with an accent that Keres did not know. "Mr. Alekhine I came to introduce myself. My name is Nuren Favrier please refer to me as Nuren. I am the Head Steward for Hephaestus-samas properties. Also Hephaestus-sama wishes for you to stop by her house in an hour. If you need any other furnishings for your room or complaints please come and tell me."

Keres smiled at Nurens professionalism. "Thank you Nuren. If possible may I get a chest, table, and chair please?"

"They will be here by noon Mr. Keres. Is there anything else sir?"

"Uhhh No thank you."

"Breakfast is available at the kitchen hall which is a building over please do help yourselves Mr. Keres." Nuren said as he bowed and left.

Keres stretched for ten minutes getting used to his youthful body. He then went over to the kitchen hall. Walking towards the kitchen hall along the street he saw multiple smith shops being opened by their respective owners. Entering the kitchen hall a strong but pleasant spice aroma assaulted his nose making his stomach rumble. The hall was filled with differing races, human being the most common. Grabbing eggs, bacon, orange juice, and some toast with butter. He sat down at an empty table and began eating his meal. Keres ate slow as he looked around to see if he could find anyone from the manga. Luckily or unluckily he didn't. No one else in the kitchen hall seemed to pay little to no attention to him. After eating his meal he headed towards Hephaestus house.

Reaching the door he knocked on it twice and waited. The door opened revealing a smiling Hephaestus. "Just on time. Come on in."

Hephaestus led Keres to her forge room. The forge had a bright yellow flame and unexpectedly gave off a warm heat. Hephaestus leaned on a wall and looked at Keres. "Until you can prove to me you can protect yourself from third level plus adventurers. In particular the ones who use physical attacks as mages are basically useless against you. You are not allowed to use your storage magic in public. The faster you can do this the better for everyone. As your ability is indispensable for expeditions into the dungeon."

"Alright sounds like a plan."

"Great after your smithing lessons you will begin your training with Tsubaki."

Keres was surprised. "Wait you're going to teach me how to be a smith?"

"To be honest Keres I'm more curious to see the limit of [The Warrior] skill. While most warriors will not know how to make their weapons. Good ones will know how to take care of them and great ones will know how to repair them. So I'm thinking smithing might fall under the category of a martial skill. You ready to find out? If it doesn't don't worry i'll still teach you anyways." Hephaestus asked with a wide grin on her face.

Keres nodded enthusiastically. Hephaestus nodded in satisfaction. " I will be showing you how to make a simple sword. So watch everything I do then you will try."

Hephaestus began to stoke the flame of her forge increasing the warmth it gave off. She then proceeded to grab four steel ingots and placed them inside a crucible. Grabbing the crucible with tongs she put inside the middle of the forge. While the metal was melting Hephaestus grabbed a mold that looked to be used for making long swords and placed it on a table. She grabbed the crucible and poured the molten steel into the mold. After the metal began to cool and take shape she grabbed the sword with tongs and drenched it inside the water barrel for just a few seconds. Pulling the metal out she lays the blade on the anvil and begins to strike the blade with her hammer. Shaping the sword straight and true. After the shaping was done she went to her grinding stone to begin the sharpening process. When the blade was finished she began to wrap the handle with leather for the finish. The process took less than a hour. All this was done under Keres watchful eye.

After examining the blade and swinging it a few times Hephaestus smiled in satisfaction. "Alright Keres your turn."

(Looks pretty simple.)

Keres nodded and proceeded to do the exact same things Hephaestus had done. Though the time he took was a little a longer as he found everything was much more heavier than he expected. When the time came to begin shaping the blade Hephaestus squinted her eyes to see how Keres will proceed as she noticed a few imperfections in the metal that needed to be fixed. Keres examined the blade before he began to strike it. After a few seconds he struck the metal exactly where Hephaestus saw the imperfections to her amazement. Finishing the rest of the steps Keres handed the sword to Hephaestus.

Keres found that as soon as he began to smith the sword the process felt natural to him so he asked confidently "How did I do Hephaestus-sama?"

" This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life... Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage." - Rifleman's creed
