Chương 38: White Sonata Cat
"Moddy?" Shi Li was confused as to why a beast at a Rank that high would have such a simple name. "Uh, if you don't mind...why Moddy?"
The cat that was at the opposite side of the fire pondered at Shi Li's question. It raised on its front paws as if it was rubbing its chin, only to look incredibly cute. After a bit, the ca—Moddy sent a wisp of inner energy to Shi Li, giving its answer.
"I don't know nya."
"You don't know?" Shi Li was quite confused. It looked at Moddy and then asked, "Does it have some sort of emotional attachment to you or something?"
"Nya..." Moddy pondered for a bit more and then replied, "I guess it's somewhat connected to my bloodline."
"Your bloodline huh?" Shi Li had a feeling that that was the case. Moddy said something about its bloodline being the cause of its appearance a while ago, but hearing the word bloodline, Shi Li felt like the bloodline did not just change its appearance. "What's your bloodline anyway?"
"The White Sonata Cat nya," Moddy replied since it didn't really consider Shi Li as prey. It has been a long time since it had someone to talk to, so it didn't mind answering a few personal questions.
"White Sonata Cat..." Shi Li scanned through Tian Zhenfei's memories about the White Sonata Cat but didn't find anything at all. "What special ability does a White Sonata Cat have?"
"Let me see nya..." Moddy closed its eyes for a while as it tried to recall the things the bloodline offered to it. After a short while, it opened its eyes and replied, "First of all, it made me look like this nya."
Shi Li nodded at this since Moddy said this a while ago although indirectly.
Moddy then continued, "Being a White Sonata Cat means that I have a mastery over sound nya."
"Does that mean that you're good at playing music?" Since Moddy said that it had a mastery over sound, this would usually be the case. All of a sudden, Moddy shook his head. "What I meant is that...I can use sound to do whatever I want nya. I can use sound for attacking, defending, illusion, and of course entertainment nya."
Moddy then continued replying which shocked Shi Li. "The aura I let out a while ago was taking advantage of that mastery nya. That was all an illusion."
"Eh?" Shi Li was really surprised. "But the aura you let out was of a Rank 8 Beast, and you can control inner energy as well. If the aura was an illusion, then shouldn't you be at least a Rank 7 Beast?"
A Rank 7 Beast, although it was slightly weaker than a Rank 8 Beast, it still had the ability to control inner energy.
At this point, Moddy let out a sigh. "This brings me to my final special ability nya, I have a strong control over world energy."
"World energy..." Shi Li pondered for a bit before saying, "You're creating inner energy within a tenth of a second just to send messages to me?"
"Correct nya," Moddy nodded. "As of now, my cultivation is of a Rank 3 Beast nya, but when I go all out with my special abilities, I can fight against a Rank 8 Beast at the most and call it a draw nya."
Shi Li couldn't help but gulp at this fact. This cat in front of him had the ability to fight against beasts of a higher cultivation realm! If he was able to do that, how great would that be? Of course, he still had a long way to go from being able to do that.
All of a sudden, a thought flashed in Shi Li's mind, prompting him to ask, "Since I now know your secrets, are you planning to kill me?"
"Kill you?" Moddy let out a small frown. "That thought didn't even cross my mind nya. Those beasts just entered my territory, which is the inside of my barrier. The thing I hate the most is beasts entering my barrier nya."
"Barrier?" Shi Li couldn't help but scratch his head as he looked around. "Where?"
"Here." Moddy then raised one of its front paws as a white glow gradually covered it. After the white glow fully covered its white paw, it then tapped the ground, letting out a weird rumble sound as a hazy white light appeared over the sky and surrounded the place Shi Li and Moddy were in.
As he looked at this hazy light, he could see some beasts that were about to tread Moddy's territory, run away from the terrifying aura the barrier brought to them.
After a while, Moddy tapped the ground once again, making the barrier disappear. Although it was invisible, Shi Li could still feel the aura it emanated.
"There you go nya," Moddy said as it gained Shi Li's attention. "This barrier is the culmination of 5 years of repeated world energy manipulation and sound transformation nya. At the start, it was only a barrier that extended to the ends of my body."
Shi Li heard this and couldn't help but sigh in wonder. If Shi Li was given a time of 5 years, how far of a realm could he reach? But alas, he had to head back to his clan a few days later and prepare for the tournament that would start around three weeks from now.
"Can I leave this barrier?" Shi Li felt a bit more relaxed after hearing that Moddy wouldn't kill him.
"Sure, go ahead nya." Moddy nodded. "What are you going to do though?"
"I'm just going to grab stuff from a clearing I made in the outskirts of the forest," Shi Li replied. "I need them so I can cultivate to a higher realm and fulfill the challenge my father gave me." Since Moddy wasn't afraid of opening up to Shi Li, then Shi Li also opened up to Moddy.
"What kind of challenge is it nya?" Moddy asked since its interest was piqued.
Shi Li couldn't help but let out a sigh. "My father tasked me to kill 20 Rank 3 Beasts and 30 Rank 2 Beasts within a week. It's been 3 days since the challenge started and I've only killed 10 Rank 2 Beasts, not even killing any number of Rank 3 Beasts."
Moddy pondered for a bit before saying, "I'll help you nya."
"Eh?" Shi Li looked at Moddy weirdly. "Why?"
"Well, this challenge needs to be done right? Since it's not going to harm anything within the barrier, I'll help you nya. Also..." Moddy replied as small beads of tears formed in his eyes.
"Please don't kill me since I'm a Rank 3 Beast nya..." Ever since Moddy was born, the only thing it was afraid of was dying.
Shi Li looked at this and couldn't help but chuckle. He stood up and looked at the midnight sky. He then looked at Moddy before letting out a light smile. 'It seems that this Moddy isn't out to kill me or eat me at all. It just wants to protect its territory.'
"Okay, let's go."
