Chương 30: Convincing Through Strength

Lachlan stood in front of Dylan, he turned towards Dylan, "You can take this one, it will be an even fight after all," Lachlan sounded cocky which displeased the soldier on the other side of the field.

"So you're too scared to fight me huh," Jake said with a grin across his face. He thought that since Lachlan didn't want to fight then it meant he was weaker, so Jake attempted to provoke Lachlan into fighting.

"Nope, I'm just going to fight your commanding officer, since he is the only one amongst you that could fight me," Lachlan said as he turned towards the soldiers on the side. They were fuming with anger.

Lachlan then turned back to Jake, "Not to mention that this will be an even fight, so you won't be able to make excuses". Lachlan didn't want Jake to start making excuses should he lose, although he knew that the soldier should be honest.

Lachlan then turned towards their commander, he wanted to make sure he gets to fight him, "Hey commander, you seem pretty confident to send a weakling like him to fight".

The commander was alarmed at the boy's voice and confidence. A similar thing happened to when they were in the tent, the temperature around them fell down a few degrees. Lachlan knew that Jaylen was using his Ice Control to do that.

"If you think a bit of cold air is going to scare us you're sorely mistaken," Of course Lachlan did feel the cold, however, due to the low level, it wasn't something he couldn't handle.

Jaylen was shaken by Lachlan's words, usually, when he did it people would be intimidated, "Alright, after the fight I'll be the one to personally test you".

Lachlan was ecstatic it worked, he just wanted to give a tug at Jaylen's pride, who knew it would be so effective. What Lachlan didn't know, was that Jaylen was also ecstatic. He wanted to use Lachlan as an example, he'll beat Lachlan to the ground showcasing his strength and Lachlan's stupidity.

Jaylen then retracted that cold aura and stared towards the field. He then motioned for Jake to step forward and get in position. Dylan did the same, he summoned his two snakes which surprised Jake a bit.

'So this is what he meant by fair' Jake thought. His snakes were by his sides as he got into fighting position. Although it would be common for people to rely on their tames to fight if he was able to attack Dylan while their beasts fight it would be his win.

'So, how should we fight them?' Dylan asked his two snakes. This would be a team battle, he needed to strategise how they fight otherwise he'll probably get his ass whopped.

'He's stronger but slower, make use of that' Fast replied, it was a female voice, gentle and smooth it sounded as though it would belong to a model.

'Kick his dick!' Slow shouted. It was a manly voice one that sounded like a brute, like a professional bodybuilder's voice, deep and powerful.

Dylan laughed at the thought of him kicking Jake's dick but when he thought about it a bit more he realised how good that'll be, 'Alright, I'll do everything I can to get a good shot in, you two need to hold back his snakes'.

'That'll be easy' Slow said confidently. Fast simply nodded and readied herself. She would fight the other side's smaller snake 1 while Slow takes care of the larger one 2. However, it might be a difficult fight for slow considering it would be a fight of strength.

Dylan looked towards Jaylen and gave a thumbs up before getting in a fighting position. It was the boxer's stance he recently learned.

Jaylen looked to his soldier and received and confirmation from his as well, "Alright, 3, 2, 1, fight!" He shouted.

The snakes were the first launch themselves at each other, smashing into each other's heads. Fast quickly began to bite 1 but getting bit at the same time. 1 also attempted to strangle fast at the start but fast managed to escape quickly.

Slow and 2, on the other hand, quickly tangled around each other, using their full strength to constrict the other. Slow also opened his mouth wide and bit down on 2's back, attempted to crush its spine.

Jake's expression darkened as he knew the condition of his snakes. He quickly went into a full sprint towards Dylan. When he got close he pulled his fist back and swung with full force.

Dylan, on the other hand, was smiling widely. He dodged the fist by ducking down, he then leapt forward and swung his right arm towards Jake's crouch.

Jake's expression turned even darker when he saw what was happening, he quickly lifted up his left leg and slightly twisted his body. He felt the full force of the punch smash against his thighs. Although it hurt he was glad it didn't hit somewhere else.

Seeing his attack blocked so effectively temporarily shocked Dylan, the pain from the punch also didn't help.

When Jake saw Dylan's painful expression he grinned and put down his leg, he pivoted on that same leg and went for a roundhouse kick. Dylan quickly put his arms up to guard but was pushed away. Dylan was breathing heavily, he really felt that kick, it felt as though it would snap his arm in two.

"You're pretty good for someone so young," Jake said confidently. He was almost certain of his win, so much so that he wasn't paying attention to his beasts fighting.

Jake's snakes were losing heavily. 1 quickly fell unconscious due to the potency of Fast's poison, Fast then went and helped out Slow. Their tag team quickly allowed them to beat 2 as well, but they were heavily injured.

"So are you I suppose, too bad I can't say the same about your snakes," Dylan's words shocked Jake, that was until he realised his snakes were replying to him.

"Arg" He was smashed into the ground by a large tail, it was Slow. Fast quickly came up and wrapped herself around Jake's neck but didn't tighten yet.

"So, do I win?" Dylan asked Jaylen with a smug face.

"Indeed you do, that proves your strength, now it's my turn," Jaylen said as he took off his shirt. But revealed itself was a ripped body, even though he was old he certainly hasn't lost his physique.

"Come and fight me, boy!" Jaylen shouted as he summoned his beasts. There were four beasts, three dogs and one wolf.

Two of the dogs were the same, unfortunately, they weren't siblings so they took up more space. They stood 1.5 metres tall, their fur was mainly green with bits of brown. They showed intimidating faces, with a small amount of saliva coming out of their mouths.

The other dog was 2 metres tall, the claws connected to its paws looked like iron. Its fur was metallic, giving off a nice shine in the sunlight, it appeared gentle but it definitely wasn't.

Finally, then there was the wolf that stood 3 metres tall. It looked down on everyone on the field including Lachlan. Its fur was snow white with deep ocean blue eyes. It gave off a cold aura, similar to Jaylen's but much stronger.

Sarah was the most affected and was shivering heavily. Chloe took her in her embrace and attempted to sheild her from the cold. Seeing that Lachlan knew he should end the fight quickly.

'Well it seems the wolf is where he gets his ice powers from,' Lachlan thought. However, this was a breakthrough for him, he now understood a bit about the compatibility rating with different beasts. The lower the compatibility the fewer powers one gets from their beasts.

Although he knew about it beforehand it was more obvious when it came to elemental powers, seeing as how he doesn't have level 1 ice control.

"Summon Disaster, Catastrophe, and Calamity!"

The Rocs stood behind Lachlan and stared at their opponents. Seeing the wolf attempt to intimidate their father with cold air they decided to fully release their aura as well. Creating an electrifying area, it didn't affect one's combat abilities but certainly distracted them due to the tingling sensation.

"So that's why you didn't take much notice," Jaylen said when he realised why Lachlan wasn't too shocked by his aura. As it turns out, the boy has a similar ability.

"Indeed, so let's get fighting," Lachlan said as he got into a boxing position. Jaylen quickly realised that the boys probably only knew boxing, not that there wasn't anything wrong with it.

"I'll only use three of my beasts to make it even, I don't want you making any excuses," Jaylen decided to get back at them with that, using his own words against him. He quickly gestured for the Snowflake to stand by the side.

Snowflake also retracted the cold aura it was giving off, letting everyone warm up. Sarah quickly jumped out of Chloe's arms and held up her arms.

"Beat him up, brother!" She shouted cutely.

Lachlan gave a thumbs up to Sarah.

He was confused as the why he would put Snowflake to the side but remembered strength wasn't its best, "Alright, if that's how you want to get dominated".

This time it was Dylan that did the countdown, "3, 2, 1, fight!"

The three Rocs shot slightly above the ground before launching themselves towards the dogs, their claws opened wide.

Jaylen was stunned and before he could do anything the Rocs grabbed onto the Dogs, slightly ripping into their bodies before flying up. The Rocs stopped once they reached 30 metres, it would be high enough for the dogs to die should they fall.

Jaylen's expression turned for the worst when he realised how badly his dogs were beaten, then when he turned to face Lachlan he saw Lachlan's smug face.

"Do you give?" Lachlan knew he won, there was no way he would want his dogs to die, which is exactly why he decided to target them from the start.

"You surprise me boy, I give, you win, you can leave whenever you want," Jaylen said dejectedly, his fist clenched hard at the defeat.

Hayley to the side was shocked by her commander's defeat, her expression was similar to the other soldiers, all of which were just as shocked if not more.

Lachlan on the other hand was smiling widely. The whole cocky persona was something he decided to do since it's much easier to provoke people using it. He was also happy as he knew he convinced everyone that he's stronger.

He got the Rocs to come back down and place the dogs gently on the ground. The dogs were just as dejected about their defeat, especially since they were defeated so easily.

Lachlan then unsummoned his Rocs, Jaylen did the same. He did, however, have to convince Snowflake that her presence wouldn't change much. A defeat was a defeat, he wouldn't make up any excuses for it.

He walked over the Lachlan and grabbed his shoulders, "Do you want to join the military?'

"Huh!" Everyone was shocked by the sudden change in temperament.

As for Jaylen, he was smiling widely at the thought of recruiting someone so strong.

Edit: Yeah, there was a lot of change in this chapter.

Chương 31: Decision and Mount Barker

"You know I'm only 16 years old right?" Lachlan asked. Although he wouldn't mind joining the military, that would have been after he completed high school. It would also be the last option as he wasn't keen on going to the front lines.

"Well this is new information to me, but it doesn't matter, in this new world only the strong survive and sure I suppose I'm strong, but you completely annihilated me," Jaylen explained. He was still annoyed at how easily defeated he was, it could be heard in his voice. But he also wanted to get a hold of Lachlan because he got annihilated so easily.

"No, I don't want to join the military yet," Lachlan explained, he still had to go to Mount Barker to meet up with his father and until then there wasn't anything that mattered.

His reply caused Jaylen to gasp, his eyes quickly burned with passion. He needs this boy to join the military, with him the military could expand on a few operations. But not only that, as he was the one to find him and bring him in, his superiors will praise him.

"And why not now?" Jaylen questioned. If he could solve the solution quickly then it wouldn't matter too much, but if he couldn't he'll try everything to get Lachlan to stay.

"Because I still have things I need to do," Lachlan explained, he didn't add any details because he thought Jaylen would stop there. He didn't.

"What things?" Jaylen asked, he needed to know more.

"Well the whole reason we're in this situation in the first place is because we want to head to the Adelaide Hills and reunite with our family. There is also the fact I'm still 16, I haven't experienced a lot of things and I certainly don't want the military to take away my freedom".

"Woah now, the military isn't going to take away your freedom, well not yours anyway," Jaylen said hurriedly. He knew that a lot of people thought that and while it did for certain people, he could convince his superiors to not restrict Lachlan due to his value.

"What do you mean by that?" Lachlan asked.

"Well yes, you are still 16 years old and we don't want to stunt any mental growth by taking away your freedom. However, we just ask that you join the military on special missions, whether it be scouting new land or rescuing important individuals," Jaylen said.

"Alright, can I still go to school?" Lachlan asked. Even though he knew school wouldn't run for a while he still wanted to complete it, he didn't want to be the only one amongst his siblings to technically be a dropout.

"Well, kind of," Jaylen stated in an unsure tone.

"What do you mean kind of? Do I get to or not?" Lachlan asked in a harsh tone.

"Well, schools have been shut down, as right now human have to focus more on survival first. But the government is looking to open military schools, that focuses more on combat training than any theory work".

"Okay, when will I be able to attend?"

"Not sure, as we haven't secured the whole city yet, we don't have the necessary room for such training. Sure we have a few combat areas in the base but those are for soldiers, the government wants the schools to have a safer environment for training and learning. So we're looking at maybe a year or two before the schools open, maybe even longer, we don't know how things will go in the future," Jaylen explained as there wasn't much he could actually do in that area.

"Alright, well until then I guess I'll go up to Adelaide Hills," Lachlan said.

"Oh before that take this," Jaylen handed Lachlan a small piece a metal that had some engraving on it. Jaylen grabbed onto Lachlan's shoulders, "This is a military insignia, keep it with you, it'll be useful when proving you're friendly to the soldiers in the hills".

Lachlan nodded before accepting the insignia and putting it in his pockets. Jaylen was a bit confused as to why Lachlan would put it in his pockets, usually you place them on your clothes and wore them with pride. He decided to point towards his own insignia on his collar.

Seeing the insignia Lachlan quickly realised his mistake and placed it on his own collar.

Jaylen nodded before walking off, heading towards his tent.

Lachlan looked towards everyone and gave a thumbs up, gesturing that they're all good.

The group quickly ran back to the tent to pack up before running to towards the field. Lachlan summoned the Rocs again, they did it in the field because this was the only safe place with a lot of room to do it.

"Alright, so we'll go outside the wall, pick up and car and fly to Mount Barker. Is that clear?" Alfredo said.

Everyone nodded, it would be a piece of cake.

They all hopped onto the birds and Lachlan got them to fly just outside the city, the soldiers were told beforehand so they didn't shoot. They quickly spotted a 7-seat car, perfect for them.

Lachlan got the Rocs to land next to it and everyone hopped in, everyone but Lachlan. He wanted to continue flying on the Rocs, he did feel fairly cool when he did it, not to mention he didn't want to be crammed into the car.

"Alright, just make sure you don't fall off along the same," Alfredo said jokingly, he knew it would almost be impossible for Lachlan to fall off and if he did the Rocs would be the first to react and save him.

"And you make sure you don't fall out of the car along the way," Lachlan replied in a joking manner as well. Alfredo laughed before sitting in the driver's seat, Cloe got into the passenger seat with Sarah in her arms while the boys took the rear seats.

Lachlan jumped onto Disaster. Although it would be effective to have Calamity or Catastrophe hold the car due to their strength, it would be safer to have them defending.

'Alright you three, let's go,' Lachlan said towards the Rocs.

'Yes father,' Lachlan was beginning to get used to them calling him father, even though he really wasn't. It reminded him of his situation, although he didn't believe Darius was his father after years of calling him that it didn't feel right to suddenly change it.

Disaster lifted the car off the ground easily. With its current strength, it could fly for a while even with the car, long enough to reach Mount Barker at least.

Calamity and Catastrophe flew by the car's side, constantly turning their heads to survey to the environment for any surprise attacks. Fortunately, along their travels, not much happened. A few spiders attempted to attack them but they were out of their reach.

There were even a few birds that attacking them but they were easily dispatched by Calamity and Catastrophe. Unfortunately, neither of the birds levelled up. Catastrophe was understandable since he was max, but Calamity felt annoyed that he still wasn't the same level.

After flying for half an hour they finally reached Mount Barker.

Looking down they saw a mostly destroyed town, in some parts, houses were barely standing. Beasts corpses also laid in those houses, it looked as though there were some rough fights within the town. Looking around they quickly noticed the schools, as they were in the best condition, not to mention the soldiers constantly patrolling the area.

They saw one school that had the most soldiers, the school had some unique paintings on the sides of its walls. There was a guy playing the guitar, a girl doing what seems to be chemistry and another girl that looks to be absorbing knowledge.

Looking down on towards the hockey oval they noticed a group of soldiers standing there motioning for them to come down.

As they began their descent the soldiers opened up to make room for someone to walk in front, most likely the commander here.

Looking at him Lachlan didn't think much, but after analysing him he was a bit surprised.

He was the strongest person he's come across so far, and although Lachlan knew he was stronger in terms of stats, he neither had the experience nor control to go along with it. Should they fight, unless he relies on the Rocs he may be defeated.

But even if he relies on the Rocs just through the sheer number of beasts this person has Lachlan could easily be overrun and defeated. It would be wise to not piss this person off, especially if all they were doing was giving a warm welcome.

However, after getting closer to him he realised that this person has picked up some spider characteristics.

Although he's trying to hide them with a cloth, spider fangs can be clearly seen. His eyes were also really unique as it looked as though his pupils have been multiplied, each looking at different areas around him.

They finally reached the ground and hopped off, walking towards the person that seemed to be the leader here.

Once Lachlan got closer he sized Adam up, realising that there were a few other characteristics he didn't notice before. There was his hair as well, although it seemed like normal black hair within further inspection they seemed to spikey, they also had a small but noticeable purple tip, they were likely poisonous.

"Hello there! And welcome to the Mount Barker military base," He said, with a voice that sounded very mellow and elegant. A bright smile was on his face, he gave off a very welcoming a gentle appearance even though he looked partially spider.
