Chương 9: The Sacrifice

The Elders stood in place processing the different meanings which could be hidden in the statement which the Mad Magician made. The one common thought which haunted them was the sacrifice. For a beast with deity like strength it only made sense that instead of communicating with a mortal having one sacrificed to it would be much more enjoyable. Well, this was at least what they thought, from the apparent motive of Gott Feuersberg it was clear that wasn't the case. Yet, the Magician wasn't going to correct them, is own thoughts were something along the lines, either way, they're giving somebody's life to Gott what is the matter if they live or die.

As silence invaded the area around the bench on which the Magician sat, a young man in his teens with brown hair and dark green robes ran towards the elders.

"Elders! Respectable Elders! Something has appeared at the edge of the forest!" The teen stopped to catch his breath when he was within 2 meters of the elders.

The running and yelling had made it impossible to breathe properly. For the poor elders, however, hearing something had come to the edge of the woods of the mountain the thought of an angry beast came to mind. Panic filled their mind as they came up with reasons why it shouldn't be happening. Excuses like 'The Magician said tomorrow it will be proved,' or 'I'm too old for this' was floating around behind the face of dread the elders had.

"There is a path, leading up the mountain! We tried walking on it a little and found a Winged White Tiger next to the path, we thought we would die, but some force kept the tiger from attacking us while we were on the path." The young man's panting made him pause every few words while speaking.

Understanding who must have created such a miraculous walkway all the elders turned towards the Mad Magician.

"Aye, it is me. Not wanting the wait to be too long for my friend upon the mountain I made a path. It leads from the foothills to the abode which he lays. I also think it might be smart to send the most talented in connecting to world energy to have for I know it would be the most useful for him. Well, I will be leaving now that I have communicated with you. I promised to help him, now it is on you to listen. You have until tomorrow to send up somebody." As he spoke, he slowly stood up and walked away from the circle of people who crowded him. As he made his way into the bustling crowd of the city, the magician disappeared.

The elders rushed off to the town hall council room, finding it necessary to discuss the situation in a formal setting. The old folks were surprisingly spry as they rushed to the only building which had a 4th floor. It wasn't majestic, but its pillars and red painted walls gave off a feeling of authority. The council room was circular, and in the middle of the room, there was a stone table in a ring shape. On the outside of the ring, there were cushioned chairs, while on the inside was a slightly elevated platform obviously meant as a way to focus attention on whoever stood there.

The Elders called their fellow councilmen to the room. Once everybody was seated one of the old men who saw the Magician recounted his tale of what he saw and heard. Panic was ignited in the room. Some feisty old warrior was to start a campaign to kill the beast.

"We should march up that hill and kill the monster. Why should we sacrifice anybody we strong enough to defend this village you weak fools pry just overestimated how powerful that man was! I Reggis Terrum could easily lead our village to safety from this beast!" One more well-built councilmen said.

"Reggis, let's not forget who kicked your ass in a duel on who could court Marina. I wouldn't mind reminding you if your memory slipped" One man, who also was one of the elders who met the Magician, wearing a purple robe berated Reggis.

Hearing his words backfire on him, the not so bright Reggis fell silent.

"Now Samuel we mustn't get in a fight. Especially now that there might be a threat." The who spoke was Samuel's wife who was sitting right next to him.

Samuel calmed down, but a fire was still lit under everybody else's seat.

"We should flee! Retreat from the mountain!"

"Maybe we could offer other neighboring villages as a sacrifice instead."

"We aren't even near other villages! How can we do that? I say we invest in stronger walls!"

Thousands of ideas were spoken through the night and to the next day. The two ideas which had the most following were attacking the beast or making a cult. Establishing a religion for it had the most support. Yet, still it was far from unanimous, and the debate continued. The war ready already started who they think should be in was military positions and the cult was deciding about the head priest and the like. The elders who still kept their sanity were only surviving by banging their head against a wall to drown out the crazies. Finally, it came down to one more vote.

"All those in favor of fighting the Beast say I!" Reggis cheered as he spoke

"I" responded thirty percent of the council in the form of a war cry.

"All those in favor of speaking to the creature called Gott on equal terms say I!" Samuel spoke wisely and with a proper tone.

"I" In a calm tone nineteen percent of the council responded it saddened Samuel that only this many could think logically.

"All those who are loyal followers of our deity Gott please make your voice louder than these heathens!" A man named Mangel Victorm, the decided pope, yelled in exaltation.

"I!" fifty-one percent of the council shouted in fervor, it was clear that fear and no sleep got to them.

*roooaaarrrrrrr!*

Everybody was still as they all knew where or more specifically who that roar came from.

"Our deity has answered us!" The pope shouted this was soon followed by the cheer of the followers and conversion of almost all of the pro-military councilmen.

The Pope quickly accessed the information about the talented kids who best connected to World Energy in the village. The few sane councilmen gave up in resisting and just watched what was happening.

The child selected was a young girl of the age 4. Her talent even if compared to outside practitioners could be considered a genius. Her name was Maloney, she possessed round blue eyes and blonde hair. Tears were in her eyes as her parents had just given her to strange men and now she was walking up a mountain. She wanted to go home, but she remembered the look in her parents' eyes, gold. All she saw reflected in their pupils were gold coins.

The entourage had 4 strong warriors guiding the child. It was the first time any person from the village had been that far up the mountain so, with each step the took their knees gave out a little bit more. Finally, they saw the destination a cave opening which looked like a monster about to eat them. They, not even gently, pushed the child into the cave's mouth making her walk forward. Yet, this child's heart of was sturdy (And Protected with Plot Armor) she slowly trudged forward until it was clear one step further there would be no return.

"Enter…" A deep rumble came from the dark parts of the cave.
