Unwillingly, Jayne was about to step inside when she suddenly heard a voice from behind them.
"Sister Jayne! Sister Jayne!"
That seems like a familiar voice.
Unbelieving her own ears she stopped in her tracks and turned back to find Da Nuru and his wife running towards them.
Jayne was overjoyed to see them. She ran in their direction. Ronnie followed her.
"Brother Nuru! Are you alright?" she cried.
Da Nuru comforted her, "Sister Jayne! I'm alright. Don't worry."
Jayne checked for their wounds everywhere. She saw bruises and it was bleeding at a few places though there was nothing major to worry about.
"Brother get in! We'll first go to the hospital and get your wounds treated. The rest we'll talk on the way. Ronnie let's leave." Jayne demanded.
"Jayne is right! Let's get you treated first. Let's leave." Ronnie too followed Jayne.
Da Nuru and his wife sat inside the jeep. Just as Jayne was about to get into the jeep, she saw a stretched carrying a soldier to the ambulance who was heavily injured. He was bleeding profusely at all places.
Jayne just couldn't take that sight. She released her grip from Ronnie's hands and ran towards the stretcher carrying the soldier. Ronnie asked Da Nuru to not get down and wait in the jeep itself.
The soldier was fighting life and death. It was his last few minutes. He was weeping with whatever strength he had left with him.
Jayne went up to the stretcher carrying the soldier and tried to converse in the local language. She effortlessly spoke and interacted in that language.
The soldier was mumbling, "M-m-mom I want to s-see my-my m-m-mom. She-she's alone. Wait-waiting for my return. I-I'm such-such a bad son"
Jayne couldn't control herself. Slowly tears started welling up in her eyes. She walked up to the soldier caught his hand with hers and comforted him, "Brother don't regret about anything. You are a soldier. You fought so many battles in your life just so that your countrymen sleep peacefully every single night. Don't worry about your mother. She'll be one proud mother. She won't lament the death of such a brave warrior killed in the battlefield. For she knows you'll be honoured in heaven brother."
The soldier stopped crying and forced a smile on his face fighting back tears due to the immense pain. He breathed his last.
Jayne couldn't take it any longer. She walked out and started wailing out her tears. Ronnie ran beside her and comforted her.
Just then the Army General in charge of that area came up to Jayne. "Madam, thank you so much for doing this to him. If not for your words, he would have died a painful death full of regrets. Your words comforted him a lot. At least he has that smile on his face before he left us. Thank you so much from all of us."
Jayne forced a smile and started walking towards the jeep while Ronnie was holding her in his embrace. "Jayne millions of soldiers die everyday fighting for their country. Today, even you did your bit towards them. I'm so proud of you my girl." He tightened his hug. His respect and admiration for her grew tremendously.
Jayne didn't talk anything else. They got back to the jeep and drove to the Army hospital.
