Chương 14: The Long Halloween part VI
"I cam here for help, but it's seems that someone who could be that famous in just two days and be given a nickname already don't really need my help nah?" sneered Diggle as he look down on Mallory with a furious gaze.
'And here I thought I was safe' thought Mallory By sweating cold sweat abundantly. "Hey, Diggle! My favourite man, I knew I could always count on you! I was so scared down there, fortunately you were there so I could escape death" she said tentatively to To soothe him but Diggle wasn't moved a bit. "I don't have the time to argue with you right now. We still have to save people so come. We'll talk later"
After that, Diggle flew In the direction of the marquee in flames without looking back to see if Mallory was following "Wait! We have take that guy with us. He's our only lead to True Holiday" when Diggle heard Mallory, he look back to see first man he knocked out 'The True Holiday? That's knew. But that's mean, the other Holiday is unlikely that Girl Janice Porter' thinking about that, Diggle start to see the headache coming.
"OK, take care of him and wait until we're finished. By the way, we're is Batman?" asked Diggle angry with the irresponsible behaviour of Bruce for letting Mallory doing all the job alone without her power. "His helping others to get out of the..." She didn't have the time to finish because a boy in a speedster suit with red hair suddenly appeared in front of them.
He quickly take a look around with an amazement "Wow, why do I have the feeling that superman passed her to teach some guys how to behave properly here?" he asked truly impress by the holes created by Diggle after his 'talk' with the gangsters. That remark made Diggle rethink of go more easy next time on little mobsters. He wasn't even certain that no one die inhi attack "Let's...leave the matter outside" quickly said Diggle embarrassed of his messy work "So you already finished to Evacuated everyone?" "Yeah, that was easy, but more importantly I think that I may have seen the Batman! I'm not sure because the moment I get there he disappeared before my eyes, but I really think that the Batman is real!" said excitedly the red hair boy making Diggle wanting to play with him.
"Batman, real? No way! It's just your imagination dude. I've been in the city for a long time and there's no Batman. It's just a legend" Said Diggle with an acting he would have called himself as perfect. But at the moment, no one noticed Mallory who was confused of the sudden arrival of that new hero. 'Who's that? Flash? But isn't he supposed to be like... Older and taller?' she thought trying to figure out what did she missed.
"No way, he really doesn't exist? I could've swear I saw him earlier. Ah to bad" Said the boy like he just learned that santa-claus doesn't exist. But after a few seconds, he just sighed and turned his head to Mallory "So, the ninja was you? Why did you pursue a clown? Was he the one who blown up the circus or" he looked to Diggle sidewith suspiciou "Was it that person who declared being an with innocent man?"
It was at that moment that, Mallory finally react "Wait! First of all.... WHO THE F**K ARE YOU??! and why do you know him? Can't you see he's a superhero or are your eyes sh*ts?" Oh yeah, by the way D, what's your superhero name? Lightwing? " Alternating between the boy and Diggle, Mallory didn't give them the chance to replied, but when Diggle heard the superhero name Mallory gave him, all he could think of was 'Seriously? You want to give me the same name of your crush? Are you trying to make your punishment more harsh since its unavoidable?' but like it wasn't enough, the boy then added
"Isn't his name Wingman? By the way, I'm..." "Like hell it would be such a lame names!" Shout Diggle unintentionally not giving the boy the chance to introduce himself.
Hearing that, the two kids stared at him with surprise, then said at the same time. "Then what's your name?" confronted by the two, Diggle didn't know how to respond because he never really thought about his superhero name "I... Humpf, that not really that important right now! We should instead focus on the mission. You said that all the civilians were safe?" seeing the boy nodded, Diggle turned his head to Mallory "Then we should focus on your principal mission which is Tony Zucco. But before that, why did that do you know why the clown wanted to blown up the circus?"
When she heard the question, Mallory remembered why she pursued the juggler in the first place. "I don't know. But I'm sure that if I catch him, I'll make him suffer for killing Dick's parents" learning that changing the ropes were for naught, Diggle sigh heavily "Sure enough, at the end they died" he muttered so quietly that almost no one could hear him. But Mallory did, and she was not pleased by what she just heard "You knew..." she said with a low voice and accusing tone making him uncomfortable "Yeah, I knew that they were be killed today"
Confirming her question, Mallory said almost shouting "I don't want to know how you learned that, but that not important. You didn't protect them! You knew! You could prevented it to happen, and yet... And all that time you were speaking about saving as many people as possible, but that was all crap! When you had the chance to save two peoples from dieing, you did nothing! Why did you even bother to come back to Gotham in the first place?!" knowing that Mallory just wanted to vent her anger on him Diggle just respond calmly "I came to Gotham today to prevent their death. And I was going pretty well, but I couldn't I couldn't foresee that after I changed the ropes he will make the whole circus explode as a backup" He attempted to justify himself but apparently his explication wasn't worthy enough for Mallory
"Then you should have. Now two parents died and a kid will become orphan because you couldn't forsee it" she said with a cold tone 'Really? Who's in fault for me being unable to see in the future thought Diggle with annoyance. "Well, I can't undone what have been done already, but I now that Bruce Wayne take care of him.." "I know that already." "...And I can tell you that it was Tony Zucco who cause that disaster. He needed the circus to transport his drug but C.C Haly refused" continued Diggle like Mallory didn't interrupt him.
Hearing the explanation, both the red boy and Mallory had a change of expression. The boy couldn't believe that for only a drug affair, a circus was blown up. But for Mallory, that was another thing, her murderous intent suddenly rose as she dash towards the unconscious Tony Zucco. Even if Mallory was only almost twelve, with the training provided by Dragon she could kill adults barehand. And that what she was going to do.
Or more accurately what she tried to do. The moment she made her move, Diggle protect Tony's body with a air shield. As for the red hair boy, even though he didn't know exactly what's going on, seeing Mallory bloodlust he knew he had to stop her. But as he was doing a move on her, Mallory take him by surprise by grabbing his arm with unbelievable speed.
Like Diggle said earlier, Mallory had inhuman reflex. And when angry, those reflex was even beyond Dragon, and could almost Compete with some speedsters in term of instant speed in close combat.
That explain why the found himself on the ground in a second from a spin and a judo take delivered by Mallory. If it wasn't because he wasn't her target, he would have three broken limbs already. And that was all due to his own carelessness. Because he never encountered yet other people able to content with his speed without being a speedster, the boy thought that he could do pretty much whatever he wanted here. But reality is cruel.
Besides, he aid wasn't needed this time because Mallory couldn't break the shield made by Diggle. And she knows it, but she still just continuously punch the air shield with rage. As she throw all her strength in all her strikes, the boys could hear her screaming "Why, s** of b**** you did that! I'LL KILL YOU! I'LL KILL YOU!!" And so on.
That continues for five minutes, until Diggle thought it was enough and ruthlessly blast her vife meter away with a shock wave of air. The hit woke her, but she still scream at him "F**k, Why did you hit me?!" "You deserve it. Besides it's time for you to head back, the others are probably looking for you and you have a boy to consoled. He need you right now. Don't let him think that he lost three people instead of two in one night" replied Diggle like he didn't care.
Hearing that, Mallory realised that she indeed have better things to do right now than keep company with that mobster guy. She quickly run away from the alley and dispear in their views.
After Mallory dispear, Diggle turn his head to the little speedster "So, who are you? And why did you came to Gotham?" heard the question, the boy cleared his throat and said "Name's Kid Flash, the second fastest man alive and the coolest man of Central City. And I'm here with my family to spend some time here for Halloween that it" finishing his introduction, Kid Flash was looking at Diggle to see if he was impressed by his background, but all he saw was a smirk on Diggle's face "Fastest man alive huh? I hope its not the word man in general because I think I just saw you being trashed on the ground few minutes ago. But it may just be my imagination who knows?"
Boasting and being mocked the second after, Kid Falsh skin wasn't thick enough to not showing any embarrassment. "Well I couldn't possibly know that she was a speedster too. It took me by surprise!" when he heard that explanation to try protecting his dignity, Diggle couldn't help but laugh "haha, You know... She's not a speedster at all. She simply have unusual reflexes"
Kid Flash pride was shattered at that moment. 'reflex?! She take me down with just.. Reflex!!?' Not caring for the state of the little speedster, Diggle point Tony Zucco before saying "I'll take that guy with me before the cops come and wait until my team are finished with their 'real' life. And you?" hearing that, Kid Flash suddenly remembered that he didn't came alone
"Oh no! I came with my aunt, she probably know that it was me who saved the others!" he said with a depressed tone puzzling Diggle "...And, that's not good thing??" the question cause Kid Flash to be embarrassed "Because my grades weren't good enough this semester. I'm... Not exactly supposed to.. You know be so...Fast"
When Kid Flash said that, Diggle thought at first that it was a joke "you're kidding right? You're not forbid to use your power because of your grades, riight???" seeing no response from the other party, Diggle start to laugh loudly "That a first! A hero who can't be hero because of how bad he is at school! haha haha haha!!!" "Hey ! Don't laugh! It's not funny!" Said Kid Flash a bit angry but mostly embarrassed. But that just serve as a motive for Diggle to laugh louder. "Buddy, be it in real or in fiction, you're too funny!" Said Diggle giggling, while trying to wipe the tears in his eyes.
"Stop making..." But before Kid Flash could finish, a woman suddenly appeared in the alley looking like she was searching for something. And when noticed Kid Flash, her entire face turned red from anger. "Wally! I mean, Kid Flash! We need to talk! Come here. Right. Now." hearing the woman, Wally wore a depressed face of someone condemned.
Causing Diggle to grin but not laugh because of the scary face the woman was making. But the woman still noticed his smile and directed her gazes on him "And you? Who are you?" She asked with an intimidating look "His superhero friend mam's" respond Diggle quickly frightened by her gaze. But when she heard him, the woman frown "Isn't the time for kids like you to go to sleep?"
That remark shocked Diggle "Say what?! Mam I'm a superhero, there's no time for sleeping at night when crime is out" clearly, Diggle didn't really know what to say to that woman. He wasn't expecting her to just come here like that and say that kind of things. "hmpf! Having powers doesn't mean you're a superhero. You're still to young for that, so let the police and grown-up adults take care of that kind of thing and just go home to sleep. And you Flash boy, take off that suit immediately!"
Not daring to not comply, Wally immediately went away to retrieve his clothes back, while Diggle was in daze looking at that bold woman. 'You're kidding right?' was all he could think about. "Why are you still standing here? You know what? Take me to your parents so that never happened again" Said the woman like it was the right thing to do. Astonishing Diggle once again. It was to the point, he did not know what to do. Clearly not prepared for that kind of situation.
In the mean time, Wally return with his casual clothes on. When he saw the face of Diggle, he kinda understood what happened. "Aunt Iris, you can't expect him to obey you right? He is a hero! And I have to remind you, we're in Gotham. Where even seeing a mouse leading a gang wouldn't be that surprising!" said Wally with a helpless tone 'hoy, there's still limits at what we found surprising about! A Don Mouse? Seriously?' thought Diggle while looking at that family with an odd look, before shooking his head.
He made Tony's still unconscious body fly as he start to fly to and said "Well, mam, that was an... Interesting meeting I would say, but you can't expect me to not do my duty. And you Wally, it was nice to meet you, but a little advice. Don't start to attack random people next time just because they seem suspicious to you, especially in Gotham. Secondly, never. And when I said never, it really never. Never ever revealed your abilities in public without your suit. It's not not protect you, but the ones you care about. On this, I give you by goodbye"
After that, Diggle flew away, leaving a Wally thinking that he just met his first super friend of his age and a woman fuming for not listening to her.

On the same night, not that far away, in the Crime Alley.
Someone was panting heavily while crawling on the ground with a scared face, trying to escape the men behind him. "Mickey, Mickey Mickie! You now that pursuing you is not as funny as its seem? I'm a maniac killer, and while I do enjoy killing because, well I'm pretty much a mad man. Doing all that just to kill you is a bit to much don't you think? But I have to say that it's a bit ironic that chose that place to die hehehe" Said a man with green hair and a big smile on his face as he point his gun on the man name Michey.
When the later saw that he didn't have any way out, he turn to face the man next to the Joker. "Harvey, I'm begging you Harvey! Don't kill me please! I know that you will never do that sort of thing. You would follow the rules! Please, let me go to the GCPD! I'll go to jail, but let me live!"
Harvey with a coin in his left hand and a gun in his right hand, was looking at Mickey coldly "Mickey Sullivan, the Harvey Dent you tried to kill is not here. He, was Justice! But sadly for you, Harvey Dent and his Justice was put in jail as a merit for all the justice he made. But me, I'm outside in the middle of the chaos. Meaning that I'm not Harvey Dent" As he said that, Harvey shoot Mickey in his heart two time before saying "I'm Anarchy"

One hour later, on a roof
Three people were looking at an unconscious person with vigilance
"Are you sure, he'll wake up soon and you didn't just killed him?" Asked Mallory clearly bored to just look at his face. "Yeah, don't worry. It should be in a moment" replied Diggle as he did not pay attention to her. "Oh, and how's Dick transfer goes?" "Good" replied Batman without emotions in his tone. Hearing that, Diggle just nod his head like he understood the meaning behind that single word. And in fact, it was pretty much the case. He already know how it feels to watch helplessly someone die in front of him without being able to do anything.
While in his thoughts, he didn't notice that Tony Zucco was finally awake "Well, well, well. Quite a big team here, for just a poor man like me. There's even a new head here to greet me" Said Tony Zucco sarcastically with a smile, waking up Diggle. "Hi, murderer." Said Sleeping Ghost with cold and deep voice making the smile on Zucco fade much more quickly than a snow touching a volcano. "Hey, Sleeping Ghost. Listen, it wasn't personal in that alley. It's just that I had to do it if I didn't want to lose face in front of my men..." started to explain Zucco, but he was soon quickly cut by Batman "We're not here to discuss about that tonight"
"You're not?" Asked Zucco surprised. Because everyone knows that the Sleeping Ghost was more vengeful than anyone in the city, he thought that they were here for settling the scores. But when Sleeping Ghost herself confirmed that they were not here for that, he breath from relief "Then what can I do for you?" he asked with a cheerful smile. But when heard the subject they wanted to talk about, he did not just lose his smile. He was frightened to the core.
"Some peoples say that if we want to talk to the True Holiday, he have pass by you first. So lets talk about that Holiday shall we?"

That's probably that only chapter of the week, but I'll to release one before the end of the year. And by the way Happy New year!! Because I'll probably never released a chapter on 31 :p
