Zhang Da Zhi knew that from what he had discussed with his alliance the previous day, that if there was going to be a breakthrough, it was going to be likeliest to come from either the North wall or the South wall. He did not trust the group of 20 or so strategists to do so anytime soon, so he knew that it was up to him to make sure to break through the walls first then destroy the defenses inside so that the other armies would have an easier time getting in. The second day was just beginning and they would be continuing this war of attrition for as long as they need to take out Baron and his group. The two weeks limit was just so that the others would work extra hard for fear of punishment.
Baron, on the other hand, was not worried about anything on his end. Sure, there was an army nearly triple his own size just itching to get in, but it wasn't as if he was completely useless to stop them. His arsenal of ballistics, Roxi's new weapons, and the existence of the Men Of Meng faction protecting them put him at ease. Otherwise, he would not feel so confident in facing such a promising young group, just like his.
One week after the siege began, both sides' numbers had been slowly going down. However, the alliance had lost a lot more men than Baron, almost twice as much. Coincidentally, the alliance army on the North wall began to lose it's patience and voted in favor of using all of their troops to rush the base and win the day. Of course, not everyone agreed to such a reckless plan and they only reached this decision due to the ones who were very vocal about this being charismatic enough that they convinced the others that it was a good idea.
Another thing that they ensured was that all of the strategists who knew how to fight would go to the front lines to make it easier for them to win in just a day or two. The alliance army on the North wall prepared their strategies for a day, and on the eighth day, they launched their all-out attack on the walls.
This wall was guarded by Roxi, Meng Wu, and nine of his men. They had perhaps had the most casualties as their opponents fought a more offensive style than the other walls, but they had one big surprise to show their enemies. On the North wall, a huge tower was built under Roxi's command and that was where Roxi, Meng Wu, and 2 others were while they looked down onto the oncoming forces. Roxi was suiting all 3 of them up for something special, one of her own takes on weapons. This contraption included 2 Gatling guns for each man, a bunch of metal wrapped around their body and to the ground to stabilize the massive weapons, and a lot of rounds.
This was actually more of a station more than a weapon, but its deadliness can only be proven through experience. Each of the Gatling guns needed two hands to be held, but Roxi rigged it so that a metal piece would hold the front grip and the rear grip would be held to by either the left or right hand of the strategist. These stations were 5m apart and had a long length of ammo belts, around 5,000 bullets each on each belt, behind them so all they had to do was to aim and shoot.
(MW) "Miss Roxi, this contraption is your invention? It looks quite terrifying if I'm to be honest with you." Meng Wu shouted to Roxi as the sounds of battle were still loud enough to be heard from their position.
(RB) "Indeed, though if I had a bit more time, I would have rigged up a few more so the rest of your men could join in as well," Roxi replied.
(MW) "Well, don't feel too down, these two beside me and myself are the only ones who have experience with weapons like these. I'm afraid if others were to use this weapon, they would end up shooting our own, hahaha. Now wouldn't that be a sight to see."
(RB) "Oh! Looks like the bulk of the enemy have begun to move towards us now. I'm not sure why they chose today to go all out, but it does give me a chance to see how well these work in a real-world situation."
(MW) "Not to worry, we'll show you just how effective this invention of yours truly is. Just one question. Is the mask really necessary?"
(RB) "It is indeed, this is my first time and I really don't wish to be recognized. Get ready! Here they come. Fire!"
(MW) "You heard her lads, fire!"
The ensuing carnage was something that neither Meng Wu, his men, the alliance army, or even Roxi was expecting. Sure, the contraption was not very accurate, but that did not matter since as soon as the three of them pulled the trigger, a literal hail of bullets met their enemies on the front line. Some of the enemy strategists were hit by this sudden barrage as well, and even they took a bit of damage.
However, the strategists on the front lines believed that they were too close to the walls now to simply retreat, so they just foolishly continued forth. Hoping that the barrage of bullets would let up eventually. It did not, and they sustained heavy damage until they finally figured out that they had lost too many men and that victory was surely not going to come to them if they continued with this offensive as they have for the past couple of days.
In just a few hours, the alliance army stationed on the North walls suffered 8,000 confirmed deaths and even the death of one fighter strategist. If nothing else was to be taken away from the eighth day, it was that the army stationed at the North wall was so crippled that they would no longer be able to complete their assignment.
The defeat of the alliance members on the North wall gave a huge boost of morale for everyone defending the base, especially the soldiers on the Southern wall that was being pushed back the most compared to the other walls. With this development, the first to know about the situation was, of course, going to be Roxi and Meng Wu, the two strategists that were the cause of such an upset.
Though they knew that the enemy would not give up on the wall, they were able to send a few more troops to the other walls to support them. Once Baron and the rest got the good news, they knew that this was only a temporary victory. The main reason for this was due to the fact that no sane strategist would put all of their eggs in one basket at this stage of the tournament and send all troops to attack one opponent. It was quite likely that they saved a few for back up.
Yue Fei and Guan Yu, who was defending the West and East walls, were not doing too bad on their ends. The two of them had picked up that these two armies were unlikely to be the enemies' attacking pieces as they were mainly just attacking from the sidelines, not doing many offensives. If that were truly the case, they reckoned that the only other attacking piece that the alliance had to use against them was Zhang Da Zhi's army. Though they were powerful, Baron was currently coming out on top, albeit not by much. In response to this, Meng Wu sent 5 of his men that were supposed to defend the North walls to the South walls where Baron was stationed.
For the next couple of days, Baron's side managed to widen the gap between him and Zhang Da Zhi thanks to the help of the new reinforcements from Meng Wu. It must never be understated the importance of a few extra strategists under great leadership. However, it seemed as if even with all of this happening, the alliance did not really give up on their goal to take Baron and his team down. One of their two spears were crippled so badly that they had to stop attacking the walls, allowing soldiers to pour into the battles of the other walls. Their two shields did not stray from their attrition warfare style tactic and continued to do so even in such a circumstance. And last but not least, the other spear was starting to get overwhelmed slightly but surely.
It turns out that their initial hunches were correct and that there were indeed other soldiers not in the first wave of armies. These new enemy reinforcements were not any weaker than the army that Zhang Da Zhi currently was leading and that might be all they needed to break the stalemate that the two sides had held for almost two weeks now. Those newcomers were sent to the North and South walls and those two battlefields saw a new level of ferocity that neither had seen before.
Roxi and Meng Wu did not panic and once again set up the duo Gatling gun contraption and began shooting like no tomorrow once more. This time though, the enemy came prepared and only used heavy armored vehicles and similar armored tanks and such to approach at full speed and take down the wall as fast as they could. These armored vehicles might've stopped a few bullets, but if they got a good shot in at the walls, that would be a problem. Meng Wu ordered the two others who were in the contraption to focus on all of the other ground units that would inevitably start charging as well once the vehicles were close enough to the wall.
The reason that Meng Wu had for going about this was that he was the most accurate shot on this device out of all three of them. He would rather target those vehicles himself and allow the other two to deal more damage to the soldiers. If they were able to repel the army for several days, the enemy soldiers should have a huge loss of morale. Thus, leading to an even bigger victory than the first time that they did it.
They were able to push back the first wave that came at them with no problems, but the second wave was a bit trickier as their foes sent in a couple of dozen tanks all at the same time in order to get a good hit in. With just Meng Wu, in this case, the tanks were able to get a good few shots in before they were obliterated. A few more shots like these and the walls would have fallen.
They were dealing with massive amounts of damage to their enemy, but it did not seem like the enemy was willing to give up so easily. So, the onslaught continued and all the while, the two shield armies on the East and West walls were beginning to start transforming into spear armies. That is to say, they were about to go in on an offensive formation with malicious intent.
On the thirteenth day of battle, there would be two major developments that would occur on this battlefield as a whole. The first was that the forces stationed on the North walls were finally and utterly repelled without a chance to recover. However, this had come at a huge cost as nearly all of Baron's soldiers that were stationed there were either dead or recovering from horrendous wounds.
The second was that Ding Lai Hang and Qi Ji Guang would finally start to launch an offensive with all of their forces. Bullets whizzed through the air and explosions were everywhere, but the base stood firm and lived to see another day. What took the cake was that on the fourteenth day, an even bigger development would take place that would shock both the alliance members as well as Baron's team.
