"Then why are you upset? You didn't like the dessert she brought?" Suk Ju continued to ask, now confused as ever.
What's wrong with his wife dropping by to give him some treats? I think that's nice of Eun Young to visit him considering that she's busy and all. It's also her first time stopping by! But... why was Min Jae so upset? Now he's just really being an as*****...
Suk Ju continued to rack his brain trying to figure out what happened.
Meanwhile, flashbacks of the earlier events ran through Min Jae's mind. It all began when Eun Young suddenly showed up. She dressed up differently and the moment he saw her, he actually found her attractive. But more than that, she caught him off-guard with that kiss!
What the f***?
"If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have been so heartless to throw it away. She must have worked hard to make it herself you bastard. Haven't you even considered giving it to someone? Next time, you should just give it to me and I'll make sure that dessert doesn't go to waste." Suk Ju offered, finally breaking the silence. However, Min Jae took his words differently.
"NO!" He roared and it actually startled Suk Ju.
Suk Ju stared at him wide-eyed. Realizing that his reaction was too extreme, Min Jae abruptly collected himself. "I mean... no." He said, calmer this time.
Suk Ju suspiciously looked at Min Jae. His reaction just now was enough to hint him that something was definitely not right. Knowing him, he could've easily thrown away anything given to him by Eun Young. He'd done it so many times already! Doing it again wouldn't be so diffucult now, unless...
"Let me guess, it isn't just 'some' dessert too huh?" Suk Ju crossed his arms smugly as he waited for his friend's reply. When Min Jae didn't respond immediately, he knew he hit the jackpot. Suk Ju chuckled.
Min Jae returned to reading the documents pretending as if he didn't hear anything.
"So... would it be correct for me to conclude that you actually liked it?" Suk Ju asked teasingly.
Min Jae scoffed. Liked it? Eun Young's kiss was indeed... something... but he made out with more women who were actually better than her. What's so special about that one kiss?
"You must be dreaming if you actually think I liked it." Min Jae replied.
It was the first time in 6 years that she kissed him like that. The touch of her soft lips, the way she teasingly bit him... F***! Min Jae mentally scolded himself for thinking about it again.
"Yeah right, is it really me dreaming? Or is it you?" Suk Ju retorted. "Why the hell would Eun Young come here and give you that 'dessert' anyway? First of all, you don't deserve it. Second of all, there are so many men out there! So many young bachelors and it really had to be you?"
Min Jae glared at him and Suk Ju was almost surprised that he actually got through his nerves. Silently, he hoped that Min Jae was actually moved by what he said.
"I'm just saying! Besides, weren't you the one that said she was better off without you? You'd better take that back soon or else she'll go on giving those desserts to other men." And with that Suk Ju got up from his seat and left Min Jae alone in his office.
Min Jae clenched his fists. Grabbing the nearest object near him, he threw the stapler harshly. The object accidentally pushed over a flower vase that it broke into hundreds of tiny shards. Combed his hand through his hair, he sighed out of frustration.
Throughout the day, the flashbacks kept recurring in his mind. He kept remembering the image of Eun Young suddenly grabbing him by the collar and pulling him in for a kiss. Holding his head between his hands, Min Jae squinted.
Have I gone crazy? Why does that woman keep penetrating my thoughts? F***! This shouldn't be happening.
Without thinking about it any further, Min Jae got up, grabbed his coat and car keys. He figured that dropping by the bar will help him relax and cool off. That should be enough to get his mind off things.
The parking area was already empty when Min Jae arrived. All that was left was his pitch black Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita. By the time he was about start the car's engine, his phone suddenly chimed, signalizing a message from someone. He thought it was a message of apology from Suk Ju. However, it wasn't from him. It was from her.
Eun Young: Husband! When are you coming home? I cooked dinner for you~ ^^
Min Jae was left confused with Eun Young's message. Did the dessert arrive first before dinner itself?
---
Eun Young wiped off the drool from little Hye Soo's chin. She had a hard time sleeping so Eun Young had to carry her until she finally drifted of to sleep. While gently patting Hye Soo in her arms, Eun Young glanced at the wallclock nearby.
Where is he? It's almost midnight. Is he not coming home again?
Eun Young couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed. As if on cue, Hye Soo stirred in her arms. The little one clutched Eun Young's sweater with her small hands. It was like she herself felt her mother's unhappiness. Eun Young smiled at her daughter's gesture.
Not long after, Eun Young heard the front door open. Careful not to wake Hye Soo, she scuffled towards the living room.
Min Jae was already removing his tie while ascending the stairs when Eun Young suddenly called for him. "Min Jae!" He turned to look at her. "Are you hungry? I cooked dinner, would you like me to heat up the food for you?" She gently asked with a small smile.
Min Jae first glanced at the sleeping Hye Soo in Eun Young's arms. Then, he diverted his gaze towards his wife. His expression was dull and indifferent. All of a sudden, he remembered agian the Eun Young from his office this afternoon. The Eun Young now wore a big sweater and a pair of flannels, completely far from the woman who relentlessly bothered his thoughts since the moment she left his office.
How could that woman from the office be her?
"Where were you?" Min Jae asked.
Eun Young was confused by his question. What did he mean?
"Where were you?" Min Jae asked again. "This... afternoon, I mean." He added. Was all that really just a pigment of his imagination?
Eun Young blinked for a few times before answering. "I was at the hospital until my shift ended. Why?"
Min Jae didn't respond. Instead, he pursed his lips and diverted his gaze.
They were both quiet for a moment. Finally recalling that her husband might not have eaten yet, Eun Young panicked. "Hold on. I'll just tuck Hye Soo to sleep and then I'll--" Without even allowing her to finish speaking, Min Jae walked past her and headed upstairs.
Was Suk Ju right? Was all that really just a dream?
He shook his head to dismiss the thought. He must've had too much alcohol.
