Coupled with the increasing volume of the voice in their heads an outline appeared in front of their eyes.
It was graceful, yet unbelievably fast. In just a blink it reached the group and came to a halt before Jade and her father.
Both of them were shocked, even though it was for different reasons.
Taylor looked at the creature in front of him in horror, feeling her aura ripple out of her body. It was clear she restraind it, because judging from the fact that he couldn't even begin to see through her strength almost everyone on the field would have fainted otherwise.
Awed by her aura, he wanted to ask her what such an powerful creature was doing in a town like this.
Normally, both elementals and elemental beasts would avoid big towns like this one since the pollution was too strong for them.
While it wouldn't hurt them, they would feel quite uncomfortable and react similar like people with allergies.
But before he could even let out a greeting, a voice next to him started yelling.
"How the heck is it you?!"
Completely ignoring the aura the creature emitted Jade yelled at her in disbelief. Because the creature in front of her was none other than Silvy, the fluffy dog (wolf?) Rebecca introduced her to just earlier today.
Silvy glanced at Jade with a smug expression. "Oh my, fancy seeing you here. What brought you to this place, little human? Weren't you going to celebrate Rebecca's birthday together?
Dont tell me you just left to come here. As honoured as I feel, you really shouldn't have left her behind, she was really looking forward to this event, you know?"
Hearing Silvy berate her, one could almost hear something snap inside Jade's head.
She trembled all over her body with rage.
"Just who do you think is responsible, dammit! If you didn't have to flaunt you aura in this area I wouldn't have even been forced to come! Just go back to the mountains, you goddamn bag of fleas!
Just the thought of being here instead of enjoying my time with Rebecca makes me want to beat you up!.....
"Haaaaaaahh... come on Jade, calm down. Breathe in, breathe out. To provoke her needlessly would be a mistake.
Think of your subordinates that can't withstand her aura. You're one of the candidates to succeed the hunter's clan, don't be hot headed.
Calm down.
You can beat this mutt up at a later time. Imagine you wiping that smug expression of her face. Yeah, that's nice."
After a seemingly endless interior monologue Jade was finally able to calm herself down. She stopped trembling and took a deep breath. Then she started talking in a businesslike voice.
"So, miss Silvy. Why are you in this town? Or rather, why are you in this town without notifying the hunters in the area prior to your arrival?
As you should know, there are customs even elementals from noble families have to uphold. You barging into this city unannounced has needlessly increased the workload of us hunters.
Furthermore, I have to question your motive of disguising yourself as a dog and sticking to my best friend who is nothing but a mortal. I would ..."
Before Jade could continue to elaborate Silvy stretched out a paw and interrupted her.
"Wait a sec, could you leave the formalities for a moment? I would like to change into a more comfortable attire."
To prevent his daughter's temper to break out in an unsuitable way, Taylor quickly nodded and agreed, gesturing her to go ahead.
Silvy then started to emit a blindingly bright light, forcing every hunter present to close their eyes.
While everyone was looking away Silvy's silhouette slowly morphed from a four-legged one into a bipedal one.
With a graceful wave of her hand the light vanished and everyone present (especially the men) couldn't help but ogle her for a good while.
The reason was none other than the ethereal beauty that appeared I front of them:
Waist long wavy silver hair that radiated under the setting sun, a devastatingly beautiful face with piercing grey eyes and a body with perfect proportions.
Added to that were her graceful and noble demeanor, even Jade couldn't help but steal a few glances at her.
"Stop it Jade, don't look at her this way, you already have someone you love ... even if that someone doesn't know it yet...",
Jade thought to herself and steeled her heart against the beauty in front of her. Her face returned to her businesslike poker face.
But just as she wanted to continue her speech, she was interrupted once again.
Ignoring the seething glare coming her way, Silvy continued her talk as of nothing happened.
"Now that I posses a more suitable appearance for business talks, let's talk businesses. Let me answer why I was with Rebecca first. ...
I was just supposed to meet someone quite important later this evening, so I came into town quite a while earlier to familiarise myself with the environment.
To make the exploration more low key I changed to my primary form. That's when I met little Becca on her way back from school near the fields.
Unlike a certain brute in front of me she was really nice and we hit it off immediately. That's basically it."
Jade took a deep breath in order to remain calm.
"So am I to believe that a highly powerful elemental like you would feel the need to behave like a stray dog in order do some reconnaissance around a town?
You could have easily achieved an even more successful result in the form you are showing right now.
Furthermore I have to continue the questions I was unable to finish earlier. As mentioned, there are rules laid down between our factions that even the leaders of the noble elemental families have to uphold.
And announcing your arrival to the local hunters is one of them. Even just a single call would have been sufficient.
However in your case you decided to not only ignore this basic protocol, you even released your aura which caused this massive deployment. Do you have any idea how..."
Just as Jade was beginning to pick up her pace with her lecture she was interrupted once again.
"Okay, fine, I get it. Your protocol states that an elemental has to announce their arrival prior to reaching the city.
But you should be also aware that there are always exceptions, no?"
Faced with the condescending look on Silvy's face Jade, instead of blowing her top, calmly answers instead.
"Yes, as always there are always exceptions. However I am sure that they won't apply in this case. Only 72 I individuals among your race are pardoned from this rule.
By the way, we will need your name and clan for our paperwork, so would you tell us your full name and the family you are associated with?"
Jade knew that even some of the biggest big-shots from the elemental race would need to bow down to the rules the elders of both factions have laid down centuries ago.
As such, the thought of Silvy needing to listen to her commands filled her with some satisfaction. However, she failed to see her father's pale face and the mischievous glint in Silvy's eyes.
With a flowing kind of elegance in her words and gestures she started to introduce herself.
"Oh my, how rude of me not to introduce myself.
My full name is Silvya Irina Fenris, current head of the Fenris noble family and holder of the fifth seat of the council of 72.
And as such I indeed hold the right to be exempt from the rules I helped to establish centuries ago."
She looked with a laughing face at the father and daughter pair.
Astonished and terrified that his thoughts were correct, Taylor simply stared at Silvya with a grim expression.
On the other hand, Jade wore a really weird look on her face, stuck between shock and disbelief.
Silvya chuckled at the sight in front of her.
"Well then, let's get down to business shall we?"
