A couple days had passed since the reunion and life had gotten back to normal.
At first, when the reunion had ended, Kang Jun and Lu AnLing had hoped to spend their days in sweet passion but Kang Jun had ended up being swamped by both work and his investigation while Lu AnLing had gotten busy with the talks concerning the meeting with the people from Trailblazers and reading files concerning the Infinity Project; some of which were highly confidential but she was his wife so Kang Jun couldn't care less.
Sitting in the kitchen, Lu AnLing bit on her piece of toast as she read through the last few files on her phone while Kang Jun looked stiffly at his computer screen.
Seeing this, Rong Lihua sighed. "Back in my day we didn't have this strange technological barrier..."
"Yeah, you had actual paper to look at." Rong Xin said without laughing. "Didn't you tell me you used to ignore everyone and read books at the table..."
Rong Lihua chuckled and pinched Rong Xin on the arm. "You don't listen to me when I scold you but my dirty secrets you keep fresh on your mind! You're just like your mother."
Hearing this, Rong Xin just frowned and Lu AnLing turned to look at Rong Xin. Looking at his delicate features, Lu AnLing frowned a bit. Rong Xin wasn't a handsome man. He was, in fact, very average but at the same time, he wasn't. He was tall and lanky but somehow strong. He was not friendly but strangely likable. The more Lu AnLing thought about it, the more she felt like there was always something about him that was contradictory...
But looking at him, Lu AnLing couldn't help but blurt out, "Your mother must have been beautiful."
Hearing this, both Rong Xin and Rong Lihua looked at her with a slight sadness in their eyes.
Rong Lihua: "She was very beautiful. Like a lily in a field of dandelions... she died many years ago though... sometimes I forget how she looked like."
Hearing this, Ring Xin looked away.
Lu AnLing: "I'm so sorry..."
Rong Lihua shook her head, "It was a long time ago..." feeling the mood in the room grow heavy, Rong Lihua changed the subject. "Your mother must have also been beautiful and talented also. Does musical talent run in the family?"
Lu AnLing laughed sadly. "My Mother is pretty but she's not musically inclined in the slightest. My father was the one who liked music... but at the same time, I'm not quite sure."
Lu AnLing remembered memories of her father; some where's he was a great man and others when he was an insufferable jerk. Even when it came to music there were times when he would tell her to stop singing because it wouldn't lead her anywhere but others days he would encourage her.
She never truly understood the man...
Now that she thought about it, his death anniversary was fast approaching. Ever since Lu AnLing was sent to the institution, she had not visited her father...
She wondered if her father was cursing her from his grave.
It was her fault he died, after all.
Not hearing the girls voice anymore, Kang Jun had stopped looking at his computer and turned to her. He then reached for her hand and said,
"It's almost time to get ready, Grandfather should be here soon."
Lu AnLing nodded. "I need to go get granny."
Kang Jun shook his head. "Stay here, with me. Rong Xin will go get her."
Hearing this, Lu AnLing peered at Rong Xin but the man didn't react at all. This was now part of his job now, and since he was still getting paid, he didn't complain but he wished to do something more interesting.
With that said, everyone went to prepare for the arrival of the guests.

At a quarter past 12, the doorbell rang.
At this time, Lu AnLing was helping Rong Lihua in the kitchen.
Hearing this sound, Rong Lihua jumped slightly. Lu AnLing thought this was strange but the girl didn't question it. Instead, she wiped her hands on her apron, removed it and said, "I'll get it."
After weeks and weeks of planning, everyone had finally gotten a day where everyone was free.
Lu AnLing felt a bit nervous.
She didn't tell her grandmother that Elder Kang was going to be there and so she was a bit worried about the old woman's response...
Once Lu AnLing opened the door, she saw that Elder Kang had come first with both children at his side. Seeing the opened door, both kids ran into the house.
Seeing them, Lu AnLing bent down to shower them with kisses. She made sure to give Kang Mei Xue a little bit extra, but this was on accident.
Lu AnLing was still getting used to the fact that Kang Mei Xue was her daughter and she wanted to make up for lost time but at the same time she still didn't know how to act towards the girl so she tried harder in order to be natural, which only made her stiffer.
With Kang Mingyu it was a bit easier. She had known him for longer and a part of her had always been drawn to him. Thinking back, she felt as if the boy had imprinted with her.
To her understanding, Kang Mingyu was Anna's child, and this just meant that he was the first child Lu AnLing had ever held and she had even given him breast milk because Anna had been unable to produce and Lu AnLing had had it in excess.
Thinking about this, Lu AnLing did not know how to feel but overthinking it wouldn't help her so she threw the idea out of her mind.
Looking up at Elder Kang who watched her and the kids lovingly, Lu AnLing gave a sweet smile.
"How are you, Grandfather?"
Elder Kang laughed. "I'm amazing. Looking forward to meeting your grandmother."
Hearing this, Lu AnLing laughed nervously. Even if she knew she should, She couldn't tell the man that her grandmother hated him for some reason.
Lu AnLing accompanied Elder Kang to the living room where they all sat down. Elder Kang sat in an armchair while Lu AnLing sat in a loveseat with both Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu squished beside her.
Since Kang Jun was still a bit busy with work, Elder Kang and she began to have a conversation about Kang Jun's supposed engagement.
"My stupid son has planned to have the families meet a couple of weeks from now. The date is set, so what happens next?" Elder Kang asked curiously.
Lu AnLing smiled cutely and said, "I just need to know when and where and I'll be there. Does Jun know about this?"
Elder Kang shook his head. "I told Mu And Ruyi that I was going to be making an excuse for Jun to come to have lunch with me. They wanted to shock him but Little do they know that they're going to be the ones having a shock."
Elder Kang began to laugh heartily. Seeing how much fun the old man was having, Lu AnLing couldn't help but laugh herself but thinking about something, Lu AnLing suddenly went quiet.
"I'm a bit afraid that this will make them not like me though..." Lu AnLing sighed.
Hearing this, Elder Kang tapped his cane on the ground. "Who cares if they don't like you. I like you, Jun likes you, and the kids like you, that's all that matters..."
The man spoke from his heart but he could see that the thought of Kang Mu and Mo Ruyi not liking her still weighed a bit on the girl's mind. Seeing the sadness in her eyes, Elder Kang changed his approach.
"... frankly, I think they will like you. You're a good and smart girl and most importantly, you can deal with Kang Jun. I'm sure everything will be fine, believe in yourself."
Hearing this, Lu AnLing smiled. Then just as she was about to say something, Kang Jun walked to her side and then hugged her from behind.
Lu AnLing turned her head and suddenly felt a kiss on her cheek.
Kang Jun smiled at his wife before he turned to his grandfather. His cold aura was not as before but it was obvious that he had a different reaction to Lu AnLing than he did to the rest of the world.
"Hello, Grandfather." Kang Jun said.
The elder reciprocated his grandsons greeting but Kang Jun's attentions were suddenly drawn to the children.
Unlike how he usually was, Kang Jun warmly welcomed them.
Like Lu AnLing, he wasn't sure how to treat his daughter now that he knew she was his daughter so he was a bit awkward as he tried his best to show his love and care for her.
Because of this, Kang Mei Xue felt a strange feeling grow at the pit of her stomach and it emerged in her eyes and her smile.
Seeing this, Kang Jun patted her head.
He was about to tell the kids to sit on both his and Lu AnLing's laps so he could sit by his wife but as he was about to say this, the doorbell rang.
Hearing this, Lu AnLing's heart began to race as she approached the door.
It was time.
Opening the door, Lu AnLing held her breath.
Was this meeting going to be a success or a complete disaster?
Lu AnLing hoped for the former...
