Chương 170: Making It Count
"What happened?"
The black haired lion who was the leader of the city asked, he sat in the center of a semicircular table Sabali and Fabian to his left and right and three older lions in the other three seats.
His face remained completely blank when he spoke not showing any form of emotion or prejudice.
Azreal and Xavious stood in front of the table while Nala stood behind Fabian's chair after the lion at the lake brought them here and explained what he saw but didn't stay longer.
Based on the conversation they had the Lion that brought them here was investigating trying to find the group that wiped out the city.
Nala's facial expression changed for a moment like she realized something but no one saw it, Azreal, on the other hand, had no reaction, since they were looking for a group he was fine.
Taking a deep breath he recounted the details of what happened in the lake, leaving out the details of the souls and him taking the core and the bones.
"So you, are trying to tell us that you killed one of the beast kings and then this 'spider leader' took the body and the bones and left with his companions afterward while leaving you alive?" An old white-haired lion asked in a skeptical tone "That's a bit strange don't you think?"
"They didn't seem to have much interest in us and the only reason why they killed Kakar was because he refused to give up the bones for some reason and the only reason why we were able to kill one of them was because of them underestimating us so we got a lucky shot but before the other two could take revenge the leader came and said they had to leave before the lions came" Xavious spoke his story with a bit of fear in his tone showing that he was still a bit traumatized, but didn't mess up at all.
The lions around the table fell quiet for a moment mulling over what Xavious said.
"No wounds?" The same old lion raised one eyebrow as he asked.
"I'm sure Sabali told you already but I'm human—A god so long as my body has enough energy my wounds won't last very long" Azreal spoke with a straight face.
Once again the members went quiet none of them were surprised by his revelation and just as someone was about to speak the lion at the head of the table raised his hand to put a stop to it.
"Head back for now, we'll investigate and then discuss this further in the morning"
Turning around both of the walked out of the room and right after Nala was about to leave.
"You can stay, you're going to be apart of this family soon so theirs no point in us treating you like an outsider" the head lion smiled as he spoke to Nala then got up and walked over to where the water was and poured himself a glass.
"For any of you to think for a second that a Beast King at any level could beat an emperor no matter how weakened they maybe is a shame, much less a god? so I hope none of you have that thought in mind"
The moment he said that a few people that had questions to asked swallowed them.
"They may not have been the one to kill him but that doesn't mean that they weren't working with the spiders, Look how long we found that tomb why today did they choose to attack?" Fabian spoke while clenching his fist.
Turning his head slightly the leading lion looked over at Fabian.
"It's unlikely that they had anything to do with Kakar's death but we'll know more once we investigate" after he said that he looked at the bruises on Fabian's stomach then at Sabali "Are they you're friends?"
Sabali didn't immediately answer she thought it over in her mind first before answering.
"Azreal is just someone we only saved and Xavious was always someone who's been half in half out in my organization so no, they aren't friends"
"Hmm, depending on what the investigation says you can do as you please" once he said he indicated that the meeting was over so everyone left.

Deep into the night, Azreal heard a knocking on his door, when he opened it he saw Nala.
She didn't say anything she just walked into the room.
"What is it?"
"You need to leave…." Nala recounted what happened after Azreal and Xavious left.
"We have nothing to do with Kakar's death so we're fine" Azreal spoke while brushing Nala's worry aside.
"Even if you don't they'll still kill you! You aren't a friend to their tribe so they won't feel any remorse about doing it especially Fabian"
Furrowing his brow Azreal looked at Nala for a second before grabbing onto her arm.
"Then we'll leave tonight" Azreal tried to pull her along but she shifted him.
"What are you doing?" He asked in confusion.
"I'm not going with you, I told you before, I won't abandon my family" she shook her head and smiled as she spoke.
She didn't give Azreal a chance to respond before walking over and kissing him on the cheek, then head for the door, she had nothing else to say prolonging this would be dangerous, right as she was about to walk out the door Azreal pulled her back in and kissed her.
If this was going to be their last time seeing each other he might as well make the best of it, he might never get another chance.
