"Mr. Lee?"
Both Dae and Kwan flinched with the sudden call and turned their faces behind. It was Mr. Kim, their subordinate detective of Crime Investigation Bureau.
"Yes?" He answered.
"Mr. Lee, Chief Young has summoned you in his cabin. He wants to take a look at the documents that he handed over to you before the weekend." He stated.
With a vexed look, Dae slightly nodded his head and stood up from his chair to grab the documents. As he was about to leave, Kwan left his seat too and politely responded, "I will go with you too. I have some reports to check up with him."
...
(Door Knock)
"Yes, come in." A deep voice answered from inside the cabinet and both of them quietly walked in.
Mr. Young raised up his chin to peek at them and lightly grinned, "so both of you came together? As far as I remember, I have only summoned Dae." He answered.
Kwan stepped forward and bowed his head before him before speaking, "sir, I had some reports to show you too. That's why I came together with him."
Dae slowly walked closer to his desk and put the pile of files in front of him. "Sir, I have taken a complete look at the murder case, but still I couldn't get any clue to find the body of the victim. But according to forensic reports, the blood smear indeed belonged to Mr. Joss. So, can you please take a look at it once?" He sounded very serious while narrowing his eyes mystically.
Mr. Young didn't even glance at the documents and hastily put them inside his locker of the desk. Dae was a bit surprised to see his reaction and continued ogling at him.
"Let's close this matter. We don't need to look at this case anymore." He declared.
Dae rolled his eyes in awe and shrugged, "pardon sir?"
Mr. Young stood up from his chair and slowly walked towards the giant wardrobe placed in his room. He took out another file from it and walked again casually towards them. "I told that we don't need to look at this case anymore, let's focus on a different case." He resounded.
"What?" Dae sounded extremely irked with the response. "How can you say that sir? We still haven't found the missing body--"
"So what? There are thousands of people either going missing or dying in Seoul every day! We can't look after each and every one of them! Even after so many investigations we still couldn't find the clue so we will just declare the victim's body as missing. End of investigation." He grumbled at him.
Kwan was too vexed with such an odd response. He glared at the chief with an agitated eloquence, "what the hell? How can this inhuman old fart become chief of our prestigious organization?" He was wondering and silently peeked at Dae, who seemed fuming in rage.
"As far as I know, Mr. Joss had a sweet family to look after! He even has a small daughter who must be waiting impatiently to take a look at his father's body just for the last time! How can you be so insensitive and just command us to stop investigating? If we decline on helping those needy people, who the hell will help them?" Dae raised his voice immensely and almost shouted at him in anger.
Kwan immediately sensed that the situation was getting completely worse. He gripped Dae's shoulder and tried to control him a bit. "Dae, tone down a little." He murmured.
"And who is giving you the right to yell at me? You stupid brat!" Mr. Young howled in rage at him and banged the desk very hard. "If you are so concerned about someone else's child, then why the hell you just don't go and make a family of your own? Have your own child and look after her as a responsible father! Why do you bother about others?" He continued.
Dae's face had an intense disgruntled expression with his eyes blazing in wrath. He smirked with his reaction and sighed a bit. "Sir, as far I know, you have a teenager daughter too, right? So if suddenly you go missing someday, you don't think that she will mourn or wait for you? Or...you are just too wicked that even your own daughter won't care about your absence?" He roared at him.
"What did you say? How dare you!?" Mr. Young slammed his table again and jolted up from his seat.
Kwan immediately guarded Dae and stood in front of him. "Si-Sir, I am sorry for his behavior. He has some really deep past wounds which made him the way he reacts now. Please pardon his conduct." He sounded quite anxious.
"What the heck?" Mr. Young rolled his eyes in rage and glared at Kwan. "Is your friend out of his mind or what? How can this mere guy who lives a lone unoriented life dare to talk about my family? Tell him to control his tongue or I am gonna chop it over someday!"
Kwan nervously gulped and nodded his head with a fretful face. Dae was standing behind him while clenching his wrist sternly to tone down his anger as he was about to burst up severely.
"Dae, let's head out. You need some fresh air." Kwan firmly grabbed his hand and tried to walk out of the room with him.
Reluctantly, Dae started following him to go out of the room but all of a sudden his feet halted. Kwan noticed it quite soon and stared at him intensively.
"Don't argue with a single word now Dae, please. I don't wanna see you get fired." He whispered to him very deliberately.
Dae slowly glanced at the chief who was ogling at them from behind infuriatingly. With a heavy sigh, he continued, "I reacted so vigorously because... I know what it feels to not have the chance to see the body of your beloved people for the very last time! I know the feelings and trust me, it kills you from inside. So...I never want anyone to go through such distress."
He murmured with a sad smile and walked away out along with Kwan.
