It could have been a boring simple "telling" what the lead character is observing about what is going on around her. However, we are truly brought into her raw, innocent, sometimes naughty, sometimes extreme thoughts. Bringing us from the environments she is in(and how she feels about it), to the uncomfortable wringley toes in her socks during winter. Making things more unpredictable, and feels like we are really reading her diary.
