I get that reincarnation stories can create some really tricky moral dilemmas, but I think this situation crosses a line that makes people uncomfortable for a good reason. Even if the character has memories of a past life, in their new life they’re physically and socially an 11-year-old, and the relationship dynamics should reflect that. Hugging and kissing a child, especially in a way that could be perceived as romantic, feels off, no matter how you try to justify it with reincarnation. Instead of focusing on those interactions, why not explore the internal struggle of someone with an adult mind trying to navigate the limitations and innocence of their new body? That could make for a more thoughtful, layered story that doesn’t risk alienating readers. Fiction lets us push boundaries, but it’s still important to handle these situations with care.

On the platform rested a single object: a sphere, its surface smooth and black, crisscrossed with faint, glowing lines of crimson. Eliar hesitated, his instincts screaming at him to keep his distance. But his curiosity pulled him forward.

I see where you’re coming from, and you’re absolutely right that cultural and personal experiences play a big role in how gestures like hugging or kissing are perceived. For some, these actions might carry purely platonic meanings, especially among close friends or kids, while for others, they might be seen as crossing a line. I think a lot of it comes down to context and how the story frames these interactions. If the MC’s actions are meant to be innocent but come off as questionable, it could be a matter of interpretation. At the end of the day, it’s an interesting discussion about how much cultural background influences our view of relationships and physical contact in stories.
