I literally put a spoiler warning and plenty space. if you still read it that's on you

The closer Gravis got to lightning, the more the state of his conscience mattered. People that had helped him deserved repayment, while people that had antagonized him deserved revenge. By actively going against his conscience, he would form a disconnect between himself and his lightning. Controlling it would become harder and, maybe, he would even lose his immunity to it if the disconnect became too significant.

I mean many take various degrees of inspiration from DnD but not many do much more than just pull some basic spell names or similar stuff.

It was probably because his level had improved, and because the staff had enhanced his power!

it is literally twisting reality to your whims with mere words. it's basically the most powerful spell useable by players in DND. it's 9th level and has 2 uses. 1 copy any 8th level or lower spell regardless of which classes usually get access to it and cast it without needing any of the somatic or material components (not even the pricey ones that will be consumed) this alone is a ridiculously overpowered ability even if it does require a 9th level slot instead of 8th or lower. this doesn't have any drawbacks. 2 literally ask for anything you want. there's some things listed that are basically guaranteed outcomes if you ask for them but you can ask for more or different things with the only risk being that the DM is allowed to veto it or twist your wish anyway they see fit. on top of that using this ability of the spell causes you to be weakend severely for a few in-game days. and it comes with a decent chance of never being able to cast the spell again, which is why casting wish in this manner is highly discouraged. the second use is generally more used as an end goal of the campaign or quest. the players hunting for an item or scroll with the wish spell on it allowing them to cast it once to do whatever impossible thing they want. the second component is also where you get all those stories about players writing up huge documents trying to counter any possible loophole the DM might use to twist the spell. one example of twisting the spell is if you wish for the bbeg (big bad evil guy) to be dead the spell might fling you forward in time to a point where they are no longer alive, effectively removing your character from the campaign. So in conclusion it's a very powerful spell but also a powerful tool for shenanigans on both the players and the DMs side.

It was probably because his level had improved, and because the staff had enhanced his power!

honestly it almost feels like he is in on the whole thing and basically just guides Nero with his questions to provide him the opportunity to make himself look good. If what June said is to be believed everyone should already be aware that this is headed for a mistrial so the prosecutor shouldn't even be trying to win the case but rather make Nero look bad but instead all he does is challenge Nero on things that are easy to prove his character and also at the same time sheds light on the odd happenings around those cases (which means the public will learn about that stuff) and considering the judges apparently can tell apart truth and lie the more Nero talks the more obvious it will become that he's innocent. iImean just the fact that he answered the question of if he conspired against Kolar with no automatically clears him of the worst accusations basically.

you sure you want to phrase things like that?

"You see, I have a couple of enemies who are Deities," Lex said, thinking back to Ra and Sekhmet. "I want to get a better understanding of how to defeat them - once and for all. One Deity, in particular, keeps surviving from all my attacks, and hides in the shadows even though I've supposedly even killed most if not all of his followers."
