respected and feared? i beg to differ, they were completely unknown even in canon without any notable feat before they were introduced, and when they were finally introduced, they got cut to almost half their group by a genin ninja of konoha. maybe the swords were quite feared because it was at the 2nd ninja war that it appeared but the ninja themselves are different, I think they were just introduced as the most elite jonins the kirigakure produced as of the 3rd Shinobi war arc so they get to wield the swords but their power and swordsmanship isn't even kage level that is worthy of their status as the ace of kiri

there are two reasons i see why, maybe becoz kumo wanted to establish dominance and at the same time build a fort between two ends to lock evrything from going in or going out, by drawing a line from where kumo is and to where suna is, they can practically control the initiative of who goes in the battlefield since that will divide every village surrounding the line being konoha trap in the land of fire and iwa at the land of earth. strategically this is a plausible action that can lead kumo to control the battlefield at any given moment because they can slowly digest either iwa or konoha by doing this, so maybe thats why iwa joined and allied with suna in this war coz they somehow knew kumo wanted to do this action but kumo completely underestimated suna leading to this convoluted result or as the plot suggest, the disappearance of a kage is quite a big deal that reason alone could not triumph over greed. From this plothole even in the canon, the 3rd raikages action is suicidal either way

i think the katsuyu here is the slug sage herself, the ones tsunade could summon is also named katsuyu but they differ in that the ones tsunade can summon is not the main body but just a part of it, while our mc here can fully summon the slug sage herself i.e her main consciousness
