The greatest warrior in the Sovereign Alliance is forced into a millennia old battle tournament where factions live on a purpose built Combat World. The combatants are not only from all over the universe but also different times. The new champion's are a crew of 16th century pirates that have no idea what they are in. The warrior Clyko befriends a Star Child, one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Together with the pirates they plan their escape, and to bring down the controllers of the game, a criminal off-shoot of the Blue Sovereign. The Red Sovereign. The battles take place on a purpose built planet that can be instantly terraformed making the contest more interesting. Back on Earth a Universal Drug Enforcement agent gets wind of this tournament and begins exploring the vast underworld of the universe.
