This is like speed running any other 1,000+ chapter book. Things that should take chapters to develop happen in one. We've already gone through most of the usual tropes and we're not even past chapter 40? It's cathartic in a way because we already know how these events are going to play out, but also unsatisfying because nothing is given the build up it needs. Also the ML is controlling.
...why are they translating the book again? I understand that author's often revise their work so there are multiple different drafts, but on the side of Webnovel, it makes no sense to re-translate an earlier (worse) draft of a book that they've already translated? 🤨
If you're going to plagiarise, you shouldn't also copy distinguishing character features. Got to the part where she couldn't taste anything/after kissing him could taste and thought it sounded very similar to another novel. Lo and behold, the comments did not let me down - it's basically a rip off of Lady Gu is too Weak to Fend For Herself. Why read the inferior copy with less chapters?
I HATE IT. I HATE IT. I HATE IT. She is like a door mat, and he is a controlling, violent piece of sh*t. The bells were ringing in the first chapter when he said that he had to control himself not to STRANGLE HER. She wants to divorce but then does whatever he tells her. If you think this is romantic, you need to re-examine your values.
Don't go into this expecting the FL to be a Mary Sue. Yes, she is a hacker, a web novelist and a top student, but she doesn't have the Mary Sue character; she compromises with her family, she relies on outside help to get things done. She is, in other words, like a normal teenage trying to deal with the rubbish hand dealt her. I admit that when I started reading this threw me off, but I appreciate that the FL is... normal. The logic of the story (especially the ML going down the route of "she's not like other girls") is off (she MUST hide in his bedroom when there are other rooms in the house?) but I guess that's par for the course. Overall, a lot better than the generic Mary Sue stories. Hope it gets picked.
What to say? I hate these scheming-in-front-of-you-but-no-one-will-believe-you-if-you-say-anything characters, but I will try and review it fairly. The beginning of the story is extremely confusing, I'm assuming because of bad translation. The FL is fairly likely, but I see no need for the story to be a book, nor for her to suddenly remember the plot. The ML is... Extremely two-faced? But not in any way that makes sense. I think he probably kept his powers but was reborn back to the time when he was choosing between the FL and the protag of the "story", but even that doesn't explain why he's so "interested" 😑 in the FL. All in all, I found this a very frustrating read. It picked up after C10, but the writing wasn't that good and I don't really feel like there is a bigger plot unfolding - just random events.
Omg, a novel where the FL is drugged but *doesn't* end up raping/being raped by the ML? Sign me up! Honestly, all those novels where the FL is a top assassin or whatever and they still can't escape - finally we have an MC who actually acts like her background dictates she should. The showbiz part is looking good, the side characters are for once not oblivious to the MLs intentions (heh heh). The villains are compeletly two dimensional and really let this down (hope can SWF's parents think she "cute" when all those recordings come out?) but I still hope it gets picked!
Right?! Unless he was planning on leaving the royal family for good, but there's been no mention of that. Feels like the author just had the initial idea and didn't both fleshing out motivations or the logical conclusion to all this...
Really good. At times, the story is a little rushed and events that would normally be narrated are skipped entirely, and until the MCs leave the city it feels more like an entertaining summary than a novel, but it also means we don't spend 50 chapters on needless drama. There isn't much characterisation at this time, and I'm confused as to how leaving the city was the best option (surely the crown Prince had at least *some* loyal supporters? And how is he doing to muster any forces of he's stuck up in the North?) But it's enjoyable. Kind of like Assassin Farmer. Hope it gets picked.
Couldn't even make it past chapter 5. FL is "at the end of her rope" so goes to the room reserved for the most powerful person in order to offer herself up. WITHOUT BEING ASKED??? What on earth made get think that this WOULDN'T offend someone? Secondly, after they get into a fight, she kicks him, THEN WONDERS if she'd offended him. WHERE IS THE LOGIC?! Then, to top it all off, she RUNS AWAY after doing the deed, shocked, without getting any benefits. NEGATING HER ENTIRE PLAN OF SLEEPING WITH SOMEONE FOR BENEFITS?! Idk I can't deal with this kind of FL who doesn't have a brain. ML gets a shout out for sleeping with her only after confirming her identity, but what kind of lover would take advantage of someone who's only doing this because they don't have any other option?
