74.86% Wretch: Exception To The Rule / Chapter 140: Be Careful

บท 140: Be Careful

That sigh wasn't an expression of her disappointement toward the fact that the monster donkey thing had been a disappointing foe.

It had certainly been, but the sigh had actually been deception.

In swift movement, she spun around, bent her knees and shaped her transforming weapon into a tower shield, the sound of scrapping metal rung out and Superstes was pushed back a few meters.

'Had that not been Slaughter Lord's Mastery, but a regular shield, it would have been torn to shreds without any effort' Superstes remained impasive, her weapon lacking any sort of damage.

As for the attacker, she had noticed him a while back actually, but the donkey had decided to show up and occupy her attention.

This monster wasn't great at conceiling himself but h certainly could have slashed her up had he not backed down the second he saw the golden radiance.

Witnessing what that energy had done to the donkey was enough for him to not feel bad about missing this opportunity.

He attacked the instant the brilliance retracted but didn't linger close to the shield for any longer than what was necessary.

This particular monster was certainly humanoid in shape, although his limbs were much too long, the hands seemed made out of iron, his fingers looking like sharp blades.

He was wearing clothes for his disproportionate proportions, looking almost like some sort of factory worker.

As for his head, it was lacking any sort of hair, was a greyish color but most notably, his facial features were upside down.

A small mouth on his forehead, nostrils pointed up at the sky and then a singular eye, which took most of the space available.

It looked just like the eye of a human, only sized up and with the way it was placed, made it seem the monster was constantly smiling.

One good look at his actual mouth would tell the opposite.

'Shit... The hero!' he had barely even learned of what she looked like and he was already going to have to battle her, by himself at that!

'That idiot donkey! Why would you try to outspeed the freaking hero?!' in his mind, the hero was supposed to be strong enough to battle against the queen on equal footing, even if it was clear that Superstes wasn't quite there yet, he felt nervous still.

The one-eyed monster spread his arms, making it look like he was making a 'T' with his body, Superstes on the other hand had switched her weapon from a tower shield to another weapon, which was too small for the monster actually see.

He had clearly seen that she could transform this item very quickly, but he had no clue of the actual depth of this object, whether it could transform into anything other than shields for example.

He had only seen her do that for now.

If he fought without consideration of the fact that her range could increase and decrease at any second, he would get skewered before he could blink.

His worried heart began beating at a slower pace, his focus narrowing as his killing intent refined itself.

"Materialise" he whispered softly and his killing intent took physical form, coiling around his sharp fingers, surrounding them in a reddish mist-like matter.

Superstes wasn't used to such things, since Sir Solitar didn't use anything other than his own skill with the sword, he never used any system skill or ability, neither did he make use of mana or any other forms of possible energies available.

He had still told his student about most of them however, he had never experienced with them himself but he had faced many foes that did.

She couldn't identify with certainty that he was manipulating his killing intent and not something else, but the goal was obvious.

Cut harder, cut faster, cut better.

The monster's eye opened wide but instead of charging at her, he ran straight through a window to the side.

'Trying to get a hostage?' Superstes frowned as she could already see where he was going with this.

She followed him by his presence from outside the house, not willing to step inside for now.

Her guess turned out wrong when he bust through the front door with townsfolk impaled on each of his fingers, an eleventh person was being held in his mouth, their arm struck in between his teeth.

He slid in front of Superstes, still maintaining a good distance before chucking all of the stabbed civilians in her direction, trails of blood forming in the air as some were like ragdolls, lifeless and limp.

Others hadn't been killed yet, they flailed and shouted in pain, turning silent as they struck the ground and rolled for a few instants.

The monster had expected her to actually try and catch the ones that were still alive, it didn't take a genius to see that the sort of wound caused by the knife-like fingers was already a death sentence.

After throwing them carelessly and tearing their bodies even further, not to mention his killing intent wrapped around his fingers that assaulted them even after they were separated from him.

They were clearly a lost cause.

Heroes were supposed to still try though, at least that was what he had been led to believe when hearing tales and stories.

Instead, he was seeing a yellow blur with two green eyes charging to him.

"Ph-Phantom panic!" he stuttered as he hurried to use another ability.

He threw the person in his mouth up and diced them up, before the blood and guts could spread out, he brought his hands down and slammed into the corpses, splashing gore at Superstes.

Slicing a victim to death was necessary for the activation of his ability, which was a species ability unlike his weaponisation of his killing intent.

The golden glow scratched his chest, causing an amount of pain that was way over the top compared to the size of the wound but he had still managed to enact his plan.

Phantom panic was a simple ability, it caused people that had been slashed by him in the past to experience a strong panicked state, but only after he slayed someone as a sacrifice.

And this monster just so happened to have been stationed to this town ever since it had been taken over.

Not a single soul here hadn't been marked by him!
