บท 103: Abyss Eaten
The Abyss all around seemed all-encompassing, both infinite and eternal.
Immoval and unstoppable all at once, soon the water that couldn't be crossed was covered and devoured by the Abyss, leaving Axiolypito and the corrupted person only to face one another.
As though something had been lifted, Axio found it much easier to move around now, his abilities and capacities seemed to have been restored to their best for the moment.
Clearly, the Abyss had intelligence, which only deepened the feeling of unease direct eye contact with its mass brought to the wretch.
In front of him, an example of what the boundless dark was capable of, whatever this man may have looked like originally was utterly gone, he was covered in abyssal matter, almost appearing as though he was made of it.
It was because it had dug into his body and forcefully fused with him, tendrils of darkness protruded from his back, each of their movements seemingly bringing immense pain to him.
All Axio could tell was that the man had been fairly tall, although he was now all crooked, his back bent as he moved like a beast, dragging his body along the rough ground with his hands.
He had long air, now much similar to the tendrils as they defied the laws of physics at all time.
His voice had also been corrupted, though he retained much of a human voice through the garglings and strange noises that he shouldn't be capable of producing, he puked out some dark Abyss after he stopped screaming.
His red eyes were unnatural bright, and to Axiolypito, seemed out of place, if anything, he would have expected the corruption to make his eyes shine the same dark blue it could sometime be seen sporting.
Axio didn't know what to expect, he could clearly see that the Abyss Eaten was already wounded severely, however, he had been thoroughly imbued with the mysterious force and strength of the Abyss.
He was missing one of his legs, his right leg had been ripped off below and including the knee.
His left arm was also clearly suffering from an injury although not instantly obvious, it was definitely harrowing, clicks and cracks kept coming from it, every single movement sound like bones were grinding against one another.
Judging from the way it bent and appeared limp, Axio guessed that every bone in his arm had been shattered to little pieces, yet somehow, his flesh and muscles seemed in a good enough state to support his arm still.
This man had definitely been the one leaving those craters in the ground and judging by the absence of anything else apart from pure Abyss, it seemed like, for some reason, the abyssal matter instantly targeted him.
Most likely slamming into his body and pushing him away as it repeatedly smashed him in the ground until it ran him into the side of the cliff.
This was pitiful and this confirmed to Axiolypito that this man was the stranger and not the king, such a thing wouldn't have been left unseen, Nartak certainly wouldn't have left his supposed great friend in such a state.
Maybe he was wrong, the Abyss worked in mysterious ways after all, it had hidden from him at first after all and expertly at that.
Axio remained still as the corrupted man began to tremble uncontrollably, the Abyss within him seemingly pushed out with great effort, then, he spoke two understandable words before the Abyss took root within him again and he was sent into a mad fury.
"Kill... Me" he had said with what was left of his former self.
"Gladly" shame he had to pour his last remnant of sanity to make a request to Axiolypito of all people, still, for once the wretch had no choice but to agree since it wasn't like he could make a tactful retreat this time around.
With bloodcurdling yell, the Abyss Eaten dug his left fingers into the ground and using his extraordinary strength, gave himself momentum before beginning to run on 'all-four'.
Axio whistled in surprise, not expecting to see such a clean movement from a guy with one limb missing and one as unstable as pudding.
He narrowly dodged the vicious teeth of the man as he tried to rip his throat out, striking him in the chest with his pitiful strength as he passed by.
The corrupted man stopped his dash and turned around by once again taking hold of the ground, not wondering for any second about the reason for the strike or what it may have achieved, he missed the hovering spawners right behind his head.
Having been overcharged, it exploded with a torrent leeches who swarm all over him and immediately tried to bleed him dry.
The leeches that managed to latch on soon fell to the ground as the Abyss poisoned them, Axio expected as much as he looked at the hand he had just touched the Abyss Eaten with.
Abyss was sticking to it, though it wasn't having any effects.
'Curious' he thought, expecting the mad man to leap at him once again, however, he seemed to be having a mental breakdown, seemed like the abyssal matter hadn't truly corrupted him fully.
"Why? Why?! I wasn't the only one after their secrets! Why am I the only one?!" he struck his own face repeatedly, his voice loud enough to cause strain on the monster's ears.
The corrupted didn't have time to voice his thoughts any longer, as he saw the wretch appear in front of him, faster than his eyes had been able to perceive.
'Glorious speed...' his complaints and suffering were overshadowed completely as he saw Axiolypito's logic-defying speed in a brief instant of control.
"I must hunt!" he growled before he was struck and pinned against the wall of Abyss by an entire tower.
Unhurt, he then felt a huge fist strike his whole body as the tower guardian came out, then grabbing the much smaller foe and attempting to squash him like vulgar bug.
Only to see his own hands be shattered to pieces and then the dark figure rush right through its head and core.
Still swinging between the depth of insanity and a somewhat stable mind, the Abyss Eaten had something new in both of these states.
The drive to hunt.
