บท 55: Chapter 55

It was a slow process, all sorts of ideals for catching predators. Mostly, the ideas boiled down to Syren being the driving force for the capture. Neither Her or her cub knew just what it would take to shove something unwilling into the world he had built inside.

The only one that might have more answers was Dusk, who had decided to take refuge from the jaws of the hungry kits. Where she had gone was a higher into the branches, taking the time to jump around, still teasing Azure and Lapis, little tail twitching, looking forward, but hopping around the high branches. The pair's tongues were still licking against their lips, staring at the branches, hoping to have the form fall down to the forest.

Syren and Nadia were still doing slight little twitches. Their eyes were still looking through trees. They were a bit more ready to move through the forest. Both having stood up and moving through the standing giants, there are only a few moments for him to climb up and move towards the shaded embrace. Their is a light smell of blood resting under the boughs of the trees, nothing seemed to be noticeably moving.

The scent that they had encountered on the way up, the scent of spilled blood was still permeating. The smell fresher, but still old enough that it wasn't a worrisome, Syren was a little more pensive, taking in the scents, seeming to recognize something. She doesn't give a hint as to what she had realized, following in her son's steps. The first time that she actively started to work on hiding everything, making sure that nothing escapes, trapped in the depths. A few simple surface thoughts were the most he got.

Azure and Lapis seemed to realize something big was going to happen. It was different, their usually playfulness, even when they are serious, was gone. Taking their time to follow Syren silently, Nadia taking the back, They had made a sort of diamond, not like she would have noticed. Dusk was still carefree hoping around the branches, each time that she landed, sending a few leaves spiraling towards the ground. The smell of her is a bit more obvious, running through the air as it floats down, the familiar scent confusing with the fact that is higher than any other scents.

The wolf's steps lead through, still confused as to what made his mother hang back from him, knowing that there must be an idea as to what was going to happen. His nose raises up, trying to find the scent that sent his mother to let him have the chance as to what was expected. His footfalls, well pawfalls, were carefully measured, each time his paw lands softly, not hearing any nose except his own breathing. It wasn't more than 5 minutes before he realizes, he was hyper focused on himself.

The realization breaking him from the trance his mind had set up for him, letting his mind quickly understand the change of location he is in. The scents had changed, something familiar was near, his head carefully turning, trying to find what was giving the scent, his eyes focused, and ears flicking. His mother and the rest weren't anywhere close, and he could feel they wouldn't be approaching. Send the question finally, "Why?"

Syren seems mildly cold, but doesn't hold back the information, "Your father asked for this. Your to prove strength of your claws and fangs. There is only one time where our bodies don't allow us to use the advantages of our abilities. It would be the same if I found a female of the same position." She says, the idea of her body resting down on the ground is cushioned by the grass. Muscles weren't relaxed, but they were tense enough to give an idea she was ready to assist with anything.

A lone howl sounds out first, before being matched by another, starting to go out from a few different spots in front of him. It was an aggressive sound, a call of challenge, not one of the hunt, one of dominance, calling for submission, not allowing any challenge. An instinct deep inside takes hold, drawing in a breath, filling his lungs, and then releasing, something seems to lock up, while another part comes out. His mind was still running through his mind, the howl takes a minute to complete, the sound of his own howl reverberating. His muscles seem tense, preparing him for an explosive start. His head lowers, while lips pull back, baring his teeth to a still unseen opponent. The call wasn't for death, but that wasn't something conveyed easily by the howls.

His tails lowered, and almost full straight out, every breath taking out sending a rumble through his body. Nothing was letting his mind grasp at the power that he knew was lying dormant. It seemed to be like grasping threads of a spider web, the silky strands almost elusive to the sight, and even harder to attempt to touch. Every time he feels like he should clench, it slips right out. This thought is quickly dismissed as forms appear between the gateways leading deeper into the mountain. Scent giving hints to how many there were, a general idea of the same size pack as his. They were dark furred, almost pitch black, their fur hiding them in the shadows of the trees that surround them.

It was almost a natural reaction, his body releases the tension that had built as the pack hides in the shadows. Each moving to stand separated, but with their eyes looking into the upcoming fight. A careful dance between the two males starts, the young cub facing a scarred alpha, enough scratches to be seen through clean fur. The fact there was still damage after meals made a quick flash through his mind, eyes barely moving to watch their steps. Waiting for some unknown signal, their instincts dictate the need to wait, and be ready. The young cub filled with nervous energy was the first to make a mistake, his eyes shifting a moment away for his opponent to pounce.

A flash of adrenaline pours through his mind, causing his body to shift, jumping out of the way and attempting to turn quick. A paw moving around from the older Alpha to slam out towards him, taking a hit, the pain clouding his mind. The cub's mouth chomps out, catching air with the first bite. His body moves forward, taking a moment to speed up, letting the Alpha have the chance to shift his body, moving just an inch away from the cub, his tail barely wiping against the cub's muzzle, teasing over him.

The cub's mind starts to clear a little more, pulling himself back toward the Alpha, moving to slam his side against the Alpha's, attempting to bring the older male to the ground. Close up, he realized that his body was larger than the Alpha's. His body was able to press against, surprising the Alpha, causing his feet to slip down. The cub doesn't stop moving, bringing his body around as best as possible, feeling teeth barely grazing his own tail, letting out a yelp of pain, bringing a light haze into his mind to settle over, a sharp focus was still in front of his eyes, letting him realize just what he should try to do. The older wolf seemed to have a sense of what the cub was attempting, crawling forward as quickly as possible. The cub standing quickly to move and feel his jaw snap, just barely missing the Alpha's neck. His teeth were just a graze away from closing around the older wolf's.

The cub was able to move again, his head still moving forward with the attempted bite, his nose hit lightly against the older wolf neck, a light scent of old blood was on him, dirt and sweat was also prevalent. These idle thoughts flashing through the cubs mind as his mouth opens again, this time closing quickly around the back of the older males neck. He didn't close with enough force to crack the neck, like what could have happened by the first attempt. His teeth were just barely gripping the skin, but it wouldn't be hard to just twitch his powerful neck to tear out a chunk of the Alpha's neck. The older wolf stills himself, attempts to crawl abandoned by him, every attempt to make sure that he wouldn't have his neck torn apart by the younger male. It was then a rush of power hits the cub's mind, letting him grasp the power locked away. The cub's mind reaches out, "Come in, let your pack hunt well."

The Alpha's agreement brought a cascade of light flashing out from the cub, and back in, drawing the older wolf's pack inside. Sending them into the world, and leaving the cub's maw just barely hanging open. When his mouth closes, his body moves to sit, feeling the exhaustion, of the short, but intense fight. His head raises in a howl, signaling his victory over the older male. Something else starts to build up, the howl causes his chest to release, it looks as if fireflies had just decided to fly out from him, as if he was the epicenter of an explosion, His body falling into immense pain, he was not able to stop the howl, even though it feels like from his chest, something was eating it's way up and down his body. His mind starts to blank in the white hot feeling of pain, leaving him to his howl, seemingly endless in the cub's mind. Seconds, minutes, or hours, he was unsure when he fell into the oblivion of blackness, the dark peacefullness that is brought about by passing out or death.
