บท 5: Chapter 5

You know that feeling of accomplishment when you finally do something difficult or when you pass a really hard test? That's what I'm feeling but amplified twofold. Though, it didn't last long as the euphoria of being able to resurrect someone died down pretty quick.

Something I never imagined I'd say. Now comes the boredom.

For the second time in my (second) life, I've come to the conclusion that school sucks even if you have witches and vampires attending it.

Speaking of witches, Bonnie is the only out of the female trio I have yet to meet. Her grandmother died after failing to cast the spell that sealed the tomb vampires and she's been out of town since then.

Tomb vampires, Katherine plotting around and Klaus' eventual return to mystic falls to break his curse…that's a lot on my to do list and this isn't even up to half of it.

I do know that I definitely don't want Klaus to have his hybrid army. A sadistic nigh unkillable original with daddy issues is the last person that should have that kind of power at his fingertips.

Option one; kill Elena. While that would stop Klaus from breaking the curse for a very long time, it would lead to retaliation from Stefan, Damon and Bonnie.

The first two won't stop until they kill me which would lead to me having to kill them. Bonnie…I honestly just want Emily's grimoire if anything.

Having nigh infinite amounts of potent magic means nothing if I can't use it properly. All in all, that option would lead to a whole chain of events that I'd rather not go through.

Option two; destroy the moonstone. Though he needs the moonstone to break the curse, I'm unclear on whether it needs to be that particular moonstone that is used to break the curse.

There's a pretty high chance it has to be, which would explain why Katherine didn't just find herself another one.

Then we go to option three; kill Elena. Wait, I already said that. Oh well.

The ringing of the bell draws me out of my thoughts, signifying the end of the class. Packing my things, I find a certain jock heading my way.

"Hey man. I'm Matt." The brother of my earlier test subject said, a lot of emotions on his face.

"I'm Nathan." I introduced myself.

"Yeah I know who you are. Vicki's my sister. She told me what happened, about how you found her in the woods and everything." The boy said, his voice dripping with gratitude. "Thanks for that. It means a lot to me."

I shook my head. "No worries, it was the right thing to do. I couldn't exactly just leave her there."

I definitely could have. I have issues.

"Anyways if you need anything, I'm here for you." He said, earnest.

That gives me pause for a moment, the image of a water bending Matthew Dononvan briefly popping up in my head before I toss that away.

Something to think about.

"I appreciate it." Before either of us could talk further, we were joined by a short tanned girl.

"Hey Matt." She greeted the blond with a smile before turning her attention to me. "Hi."

Matt on the other hand had a knowing look judging by the smirk that crept onto his face. "I'll catch you later."

With that, he left me along with the girl I now scrutinized. Curly dark brown hair with eyes of the same color. Cute.

"Nathan, right? I'm Aimee." She introduced herself.

"Hey Aimee." I say, flashing a smile at her. "Did you need something?"

"I was actually wondering if you are free after school. You're new in town and I happen to know the cool spots to hang out." She said, batting her lashes.

I take a brief moment to think. I planned on seeing if I could track down the other tomb vampires but I guess that could wait a day or so.

"I don't see why not." I agree, eliciting a happy smile from her, a small hop in her step.

"Great!"

-[Elizabeth Forbes]-

Pouring over a stack of case files in her office, she barely held in a sigh. There was still a lot to do and her work was growing by the day.

The door to the office opened and Damon Salvatore walked in. As the person who staked a vampire a while back to protect Mystic Falls, his presence was a bit comforting to her, knowing that she wasn't alone in this fight to keep her town safe.

"Thank you for coming on such short notice Damon." She said, her shoulders sagging a bit as she pushed aside a file that was yet to be finished.

"It's not a problem. Is everything alright?" He asked, concerned.

"Do you remember a girl named Vicki Donovan? The girl who went missing two months back." She asked, getting a confused look from Damon that only lasted a moment.

"I think so. Stefan's classmate's sister, right?" He asked, a brow raised as the woman nodded. "What about her?"

"She turned up very early this morning." Liz said, Damon's eyes shooting wide at the revelation. "Believe me, I was just as surprised." She added.

"Is she okay? Where was she?" Damon asked, taking a seat in front of the sheriff.

The woman grimaced in remembrance. "That's the thing. She doesn't remember. The guy who brought her in said he found her in the woods. He said a vampire was about to feed on her. He staked them before they could."

"Who is this guy? How does he know about vampires?" Damon questioned, more than a little curious.

She couldn't blame him. Those were the same thoughts she had on her mind.

"He's another one of Stefan's classmates, Nathan Quinn. According to him, he's seen vampires before this. I did a background check on him, he's clean." Liz said with a sigh.

It was mostly to satisfy her own curiosity. Passing a file to Damon, the young man whistled as he glanced through it.

"Wow. He's loaded but other than that, there's nothing out of the ordinary." Damon said, still looking through the file.

From all that she gathered, Nathan's great grandfather invested in many businesses around the world which brought in a steady line of profit till date. He also had a hand in the development of some cities.

Nathan's mother was a delicate matter, being somewhat estranged with her son. Other than those, there was nothing strange in it, unless they were counting his straight A records.

"He may be new around here but he did us a great service. That's one less vampire to worry about. We still don't know how many there are, hiding out there." She said with a sigh.

"We'll find them Liz, I promise you." Damon reassured her. As she smiled in relief, she failed to see the glint in Damon's eyes or the frown on his face as he turned around to leave.
