ANNOUNCEMENT: Hello every lovely members of the Webnovel community, reading enthusiasts, book connoisseurs and just anyone in general, this would be my FIRST official work in progress released here. My full name is Emmanuel Yakubu, but you can address me by my pseudonym, Emmanuel Grey. I know, not much different or more exciting than the original name, but you can come at me for that later lol.
WISPY FOG (this book you're about to start reading soon as I finish my monologue), is just a work in progress and I'm writing everything as I go. The aim of this story isn't specifically to entertain anyone (tho I'm highly flattered if it does entertain you), but it's mainly a test to myself to see if I can actually commit to updating frequently, as I've come to conclude that that's one of my biggest weaknesses as a writer.
PLEASE KNOW NOW, that every chapter of this work is going to be SHORT on purpose, as I said, I am and will be making it up as I go. Who knows what's gonna happen in the next chapter? Certainly not me!! 😱 I'll just log onto here, open the next chapter and maybe let my fingers dance on the keys and make the story as I go. I will also be making use of your suggestions should you have any, so feel free and feel generous to COMMENT down what you wanna see or how you feel it will go.
My main goal is to try to update AT LEAST a thousand words for EACH CHAPTER (this all caps thing is getting annoying now, but Imma still do it lol), and I want to be able to a supply an update for you guys at least once a week or once in two weeks. Again, this is a personal project for me, myself and I. Feel free to give it a read and tell me what you think of my writing, use of vocabulary or how the plot feels to you. And don't hesitate to tell me if I'm just writing utter nonsense because critics are welcome. 😌
Okay I've rambled enough for one day, I'm gonna let yall skim through and be the judge of what you see... Bye!! 💕
UNKNOWN POV
It kept pulling me down, gravity. Constantly lulling at me with its pull and affecting the swimming fog in my mind. It's dark, it's confusing, and it just keeps tugging me downwards.... Why is it tugging so hard tho?
Now it's gripping at my sleeve, growling and filling my senses with suppressed, annoyed anger. It's trying to center me somehow, I couldn't tell how but this presence was on my side and that filled me with a slight sense of comfort in this unknown, swimming abyss.
The tugging encouraged me to fight against this cloudy eternity, succeeding in letting out a strained groan.
My mouth felt dry and bitter and my tongue wouldn't stop touching the roof of my mouth, I could also feel a chapped cut on the side of my lip. My throat was equally dry, leaving me feeling drained as I forcefully blinked my eyes open.
The treetops were somehow reaching for the ground and the ground was the evening sky, dizziness then set in, mixing the vivid greenery of the former with that of the latter into a kaleidoscopic mess.
"Khhh!" I couldn't hold in the scratchy cough as it made its way out my equally scratchy lungs.
Many more blinks later and I realized I was hanging upside-down, dangling off a burnt branch of a birch tree. What's weirder was only the branch, however, was burnt. There were in fact still red-orange embers eating quietly at the sides. I couldn't figure out why the rest of tree was unsinged or why the branch holding me was still--
SNAP!!
As if finally realizing why itself, the branch gave away due to my weight and I was met with an unforgiving collision with the dry, cracked earth beneath.
I felt my teeth slam shut, sending shivers up my spine and my neck strain under the new weight provided by my collided body. Everything blacked out for about a minute or two, inciting me back towards the foggy abyss.
An incessant barking pulled my consciousness back shortly, somehow succeeding at feeding me with a weird calm inside. The same tug at my sleeve earlier that sent familiar growls to my memory.
A slow sit up and a scan around confirmed my suspicion rather ominously. A large snout was speedily inhaling and exhaling an overbearing, hot breath up nose. The snout belonged to some kind of dog... At least I hope it was a dog.
Its haunches were massive and it's forelegs were as meaty as a fully grown hyena's. Somehow it had a warm blonde coat, fused with bright fire embers, making me believe the branch had fallen on it and it somehow was able to ignore the pain. Furthermore, I noticed with every breath it let out just came as a puff of smoke.
Safe to assume this wasn't any ordinary dog I've ever seen. And speaking of seen, I managed to tear my gaze away from the canine beast and give a quick to my surroundings. Obviously I was in some kind of forest or woods, easily given away by the numerous greenery and terrain. The sun was slowly setting, casting its grey and purple-pink rays near the horizon.
An impatient growl drew me back to my newest company, as if letting me know my attention should be trained solely on it. I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out why I hadn't freaked out at the sight of such an animal yet, or even why it hadn't torn me to shreds. Those tight jaw muscles looked like they would make quick work of just about anything they were set to.
The hound stepped forward, its sight trained on me, revealing amber-colored pupils with the same bodily embers swimming in them. Its features struck me as docile, its ears weren't pointed upwards or drawn back in retreat as if it were feral. Its nostrils kept gently flaring with quick sniffs, as if trying to place me.
I was doing the same more or less, trying to figure out why I felt a sense of familiarity sitting in front of this creature.
I was about to finally reach out my hand to touch the hound when it suddenly drew back, sharply twisting its ears to face its back and baring its teeth, revealing fangs at least four inches long and training its sight on something far away.
I was about to actually ask this creature what was wrong when an unmistakable snarl made its way to my hearing. I froze in place and turned my head slowly, allowing to my dismay, the sight of at least six more of the same hound type bounding their way over, kicking up clouds of dust in their wake.
It was now time to run...
