Alexander Preston suddenly picked her up off the ground and headed towards the staircase.

"Let me go!" Jaylene yelled out: "I don't need you to carry me, I can walk up there myself."

However, Alexander seemed to ignore her, holding her tight and continuing to walk upstairs, despite her hands pushing against his chest.

The crisp sound of a slap echoed in the old corridor. The sound-activated corridor light, which had just turned off, instantly lit up again, illuminating Alexander's swollen cheek.

Even then, Alexander showed no intention of dropping her. He held her tight and moved up the stairs one step at a time, each step incredibly steady.

Jaylene had used all her strength in that slap, causing her hand to tremble slightly. So, from then on, she didn't resist any further. However, she turned her face away, enduring the stinging around her eyes and the pain in her ankle.
