บท 50: The way back home
Max and Valeria walked in silence for some time. Max knew that the name of the women was Valeria. He did not really know anything else about her other than the fact that she was strong. He was not sure what to talk about with her, so he asked the first thing that came into mind: "Do you have any family members left alive?"
Max did not know that, but Valeria was bound by a slave contract, so she had to respond. She said: "I'm not sure but most likely not."
Max nodded. After some more time he asked: "Do you want to tell me anything that I should know about you? You don't have to answer if you don't want to."
Valeria just stayed silent. Max got the point and just continued walking. He did not really know all the details about the slave contract, so he intended to ask Derek about it. He did not know what was going on. While fighting the days before he interacted with the system, and he was told the kid Rey was fine. Max told the system to eject the kid when he will be fine and the old blacksmith as well when he will finish his operation and just lock itself. Max did not want people to do shady stuff when he was not around. Derek could not really defend the store by himself.
At the Valeria country. The city of Valler. Graham looked at the stupidly grinning Vic and said: "Don't do such stupid shit next time. I am sick and tired of being you nanny. You got some shit going so go and pick it after yourself. Don't call me next time if you confront this guy. He will not attack you if you won't pick a fight with him."
Before Vic could say anything, Graham left. He wanted to go to the capital of the empire and tell the higher ups about a new strong mage in the empire. It was not a small matter. Also, he did not want to stay here even for one more minute.
Vic stayed standing rooted in place. After some time when he saw Graham going far away, he started to curse Graham, Max and this stupid war. The plan was brilliant. The execution was great but who could know they will offend a crazy roaming mage that will go berserk mode and chase them all the way to their capital and will even try to siege it. It was his first time seeing such a thing.
Max and Valeria were making their way towards Alexander's country slowly. Max wanted to take his time. He did not really hurry. Valeria was going after him. After a short time, she got the fact that Max will not violate or rape her or do anything else against her will. She did not really understand what was going on.
Max tried to talk with this woman, but she was not really talkative. He did not really push the topic. He just made his way towards Manchester city. When Max and Valeria got to some town or small city they rested in an inn. Max did not make it hard for her. He always took two separate rooms. He did not really have problems with coins. He also gave her food in the inn, and they ate together in silence.
When they could not find a city or town near nighttime Max just created a big cave for both of them with a wall between their sleeping space so Valeria would feel comfortable. He also gathered wood and made fire when it was cold. Killing wild animals and dissecting them to eat was not hard. Valeria was silent. She was thinking about what to do next. She was thinking about killing Max, but she knew that if he died, she would die as well. Running away was impossible. She was bound to Max. She felt helpless. She knew that she could not really play tricks with this man. She felt like nothing really changed. She was still caged, just without the chains. She felt the fresh air. She saw the different sceneries that she could never experience before and she felt that this man was not so bad, but she just wanted to be free. All the outside beauty paled when you could not make decisions about your life. Your future. They continued to travel in such a way for a few weeks. After roughly a month Max and Valeria arrived at Manchester city. Max saw that the city was reinforced by a vast number of troops. It was evident that it suffered greatly from the attack. Some houses that were burned were being reconstructed by the citizens. The atmosphere was generally gloomy. When Max went through the city gate with Valeria, he was ready for some trouble. She was not a citizen, and she was a slave. He did not know if it was legal to have slaves in this country. He needed Derek. When the soldier looked at his guild card his expression changed. After re-checking it to be sure he saluted Max and said: "Sir, thank you for your service! Please make your way to the adventurers guild to update your status."
Max was taken aback but he did not show it. He thought about what the soldier said, and it sounded logical. He saved this town and maybe even the country with his child tantrum. When he saw that the soldier did not intend to make problems for Valeria he smiled and said: "She is with me." and then he just went towards the gaming club. He will update his status later. He wanted to speak with Derek.
When he got to the gaming club he saw Derek training near the gaming club. He did knight moves. He did not waste time.
"Yo, Derek. It's good that you are alive. Where is this little shit? I want to kick his ass. What happened during that time I was out of the city?" Max asked. He was standing behind Derek with Valeria standing behind him.
Derek turned around. When he saw Max, he was so happy that he jumped on Max and hugged him. Max was taken aback. "What the hell is wrong with you? I'm not into men. Derek relax." Max said.
Derek got embarrassed and got back. He was still very happy. He said: "Boss Max, Rey is with the church brats. He is keeping an eye on them. I'm so glad that you alive! You are a legend now! People call you... Mad Max or Crazy Max. This is your new title."
Max looked strangely at Derek and asked: "Why Mad Max or Crazy Max? Why don't put more imagination into naming?"
Derek scratched his head in embarrassment. After some deliberation he said: "Well boss Max you ran into the enemy army with battle cries alone and the enemy retreated. After that there were reports sent that you sieged the enemy capital city by yourself for two weeks and stopped only when the powerhouses from the empire capital came to mediate. No sane person will do such things. That is the reason for the nicknames."
