บท 117: Conflict

In the quiet of the alchemy lab, Lyra and Dante were deep in conversation about their newest project—a potion called Parity, designed to help balance the powerful elements in vampires. But this potion was tricky and risky; one wrong step could cause a vampire to lose their Sanguine Essence or mimic the terrifying effects of turning into a ghoul.

Lyra paced the room, wringing her hands anxiously. "This element is just so unstable, Dante," she said, her voice tinged with worry. "If we mess this up, it could be really bad. I mean, we might not be able to fix it."

Dante looked at her, his expression calm and sure. He walked over and gently placed his hand on her shoulder. "We can make this work, Lyra. It's risky, sure, but think about what we could achieve if we get it right."

Hoping to find some reassurance, Dante pulled an old book off a nearby shelf and handed it to Lyra. "This might help us," he suggested. The book was written by a famous alchemist named Dr. Victor Morthim, who was known for his unusual but effective treatments for both humans and vampires.

Lyra accepted the book, nodding in recognition. "Dr. Victor Morthim, huh? He's a bit controversial but was really ahead of his time. He treated humans and vampires alike. This could give us some good ideas."

Together, they pored over the book, each page offering new insights and possibilities. The lab was quiet, with only the sound of rustling pages and the occasional distant howl of a night creature.

As the night grew deeper, the moon rose high in the sky, casting a silver glow through the lab's windows. The moonlight streamed in, surrounding Lyra in a soft, otherworldly light that seemed to make her glow.

Dante looked up from the book and caught sight of Lyra in the moonlight. He was struck by how the light played on her features, softening her worried expression and making her look almost magical. "You look like a moonbeam, Lyra," he said softly, almost without thinking.

Lyra was taken aback by the nickname, her heart fluttering. "Moonbeam?" she echoed, a slight blush coloring her cheeks.

"Yeah," Dante smiled, feeling a bit shy now. "You look... well, beautiful in the moonlight."

Feeling a bit awkward but touched by his words, Lyra muttered a shy, "Thank you, Dante." She hesitated before adding, "That was a nickname my mom gave me when I was young."

As it got later, Dante realized it was time to leave. "I should head home," he said, standing up. "Goodnight, Moonbeam," he added, smiling warmly at her.

"Goodnight, Dante," Lyra replied, her voice quiet. She watched him leave, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside her. As the door shut behind him, the lab felt emptier without him. Yet, his words, calling her 'Moonbeam,' echoed in her mind, bringing a small, hopeful smile to her face.

Despite the challenges ahead, Lyra felt stronger with Dante by her side and the connection they had made. With new determination, she turned back to the Parity potion, set on figuring it out and bringing balance to the world of vampires and humans.
