บท 261: Mother’s Words

Wu Ling returned to the villa before opening either of the letters he'd received. As eager as he was to hear both from his mother and from Yao Meifeng, he wanted some privacy to do so. Slowly, almost unconsciously, his fingers traced across the thicker scroll sent by Meifeng before he set it aside to open the letter from his mother.

It had been many years since his mother had been able to hold a brush to write. When he saw the neatly written characters filling the page he realized that she must have dictated her letter to either Yingxu or Jieyan. He didn't know either woman well enough to recognize their handwriting but the fact that someone else had to write out her words struck him like a knife twisting between his ribs.
