As the police car pulled away from the estate, Hunter sat silently in the back seat, his mind racing. Chloe's bizarre and theatrical performance played repeatedly in his head.

No matter how many times he thought about it, he couldn't understand what happened. Why would she accuse him of something so ridiculous? Was it because of Delilah? Had she come there with that plan in mind? What did she hope to gain by dragging him into this mess? he wondered, trying to make sense of her motives.

His thoughts drifted to what Ned had said the last time about Chloe and her mother planning to deal with him. Was this their plan? To what end? His jaw clenched in frustration, and his thoughts churned as he pieced together the events but he wasn't panicked.
