'It actually dropped the commander's spear, but that's not for me, I'll just sell it.' The spear wasn't exactly special in anyway. It was one of those weapons that seems powerful only when the boss is using it.
Since Ren was done with the dungeon, he left and came out to where the guard was stationed. Seeing Ren walk out, the guard was definitely at a loss for words, he had actually expected Ren not to return, so seeing him step out of the dungeon, he was in great disbelief.
'How's it even possible that he survived and is out?... Does he have a return stone? But…'
"This dungeon resets every three hours, right?" Ren asked.
"Oh, y-yeah. Why do you ask?"
"Ok nice, I'll be back before then." Ren left the area through the portal that led back to the academy's portal station.
'What does he mean he'll be back? He's joking, right?' To say the least, the guard just had nothing to say in such a situation, he just couldn't wait for his colleague to come so he would share the story of what happened.
In the portal station, Ren was deep in thoughts, well, not exactly deep, but he was invested in the idea that came to him while he was fighting in the dungeon. 'Certainly, I was missing that one piece and completely forgot.'
It was simple, Ren had completely forgotten about AOE type skills. Though not always practical, when the situation is right, there could be nothing better than possessing an AOE skill to mass kill the enemies.
Due to previous failures, Ren had been avoidant of skill creation in practical. He had also been spending all his time trying to craft the best theory on how to create the best analysis skill, so there was that also, but at this moment, he couldn't feel more motivated to create a skill than he already was.
'I've been studying on this very thing for over a month now, it shouldn't be as hard as I remember it to be.' Ren was adamant this time, and he pushed through with it despite his mind trying to compel him not to.
First, he made sure he found a quiet place where he wouldn't be disturbed, then after preparing himself mentally, Ren was ready to try his hand at another attempt in creating a skill.
Just like always, he entered the space that had millions of stars travelling through at high speeds, and once he was there, the confidence from creating many techniques over the course of weeks came upon him, and he suddenly felt that he could do it.
Ten minutes later, the creation was coming along better than what Ren had even imagined, it was looking fantastic so far…
[Replication failed]
[Data stored]
. . .
"…"
Even though it was unsuccessful, Ren had learned something from this experience, he may have just been going about it the wrong way all along!
'Come to think of it, I've been trying to replicate skills to the finest of my memories, but maybe that's going too far.'
"What if I only provide the necessary information, the crucial data and give the creation process a general direction to follow and then allow it to do the rest?..." Suddenly, thinking of this, Ren felt that he had been a little dumb not to have thought of it from the very beginning.
This time, Ren reinitiated the creation process. "Let's see, I want to create an AOE lightning skill that calls down lightning upon every enemy around a 100 metre radius…" After determining all necessary parameters, Ren began the process in full, this time only working to provide the necessary information.
Since the skill he was aiming to create was lighting related, he could also trust that his affinity with lighting would help a lot. Apart from that since the affinity was strong, it was definitely going to make a huge impact. Despite the fact that it had assisted before in a small way, this time he hoped it would be different and more effective since it was a conscious action.
After providing the necessary data, all Ren had to do was wait for the skill to completely form into the real thing from the mould he had made.
'I can't wait to see what will be created.'
What he wanted to create was an AOE lightning skill that would not just create a shock status effect, but give a powerful shock strong enough to deal powerful physical and magical damage. Well, that was the vision he had for the skill, what it would become was not in his power to control in the end.
"I don't know how long this will take, but I might have to go for the raid for now since the dungeon would have reset by now." Luckily, the skill creation seemed to continue even though he wasn't in the space and actively monitoring it.
Ren went to the portal again, and this time, there was no debate between him and the guard there, he allowed Ren to enter without any issues at all.
Just like before, the clear condition of the dungeon remained the same, and it took even shorter time for him to clear the dungeon this time than it took at first. This time also, the commander's spear was given as reward, and it looked like Ren was blessed with luck on that day.
'In the lower levels, this dungeon won't give any noticeable rewards worth much, but once he had gotten stronger, grinding in that particular dungeon would be worth all the effort. 'Also, since people rarely come here, grinding here to increase my level should be relatively easy.
"Alright, I'll be back later once the dungeon is reset."
"Ah, is that so… No problem."
Clearing the dungeon even faster this time, the guard sure was more than amazed. This was something a group would be able to accomplish if they enter with the maximum number, but here it was before his eyes, one man doing what seemed to be the impossible, it was simply more than amazing.
