Steve Burton could hardly miss the schadenfreude in Alfred Smith's voice. He had secretly clenched his teeth, but couldn't think of any retort and stiffly said, "Thanks!"

Alfred Smith shrugged with a grin that was anything but subtle and said, "Then I won't delay Mr. Burton's time anymore, goodbye Mr. Burton."

"Goodbye!" Steve Burton spat out through gritted teeth, thinking to himself that once he got to Florin, he would surely punish that little woman properly!

Alfred Smith didn't speak but, in front of Steve Burton, took out his phone and called his beloved wife, Emily Gregory: "Sophia? Where are you? I'm coming to pick you up. Yeah, I was supposed to have a work conversation today, but the person I was meeting, he's off chasing his wife a thousand miles away..."

Steve Burton, striding to the door, heard Alfred Smith say this behind him, yanked the door handle hard, and cursed silently: So cheap!

Then, his figure disappeared around the corner.
