บท 4: Out of my league

"I just want to have one meal, quietly, why don't we talk later," I said, digging into my plate again, drawing my lips in a straight line.

"You don't have to act so almightily when you're acting like a thug in the school," he continued.

"What book are you reading, where you're taking your private classes," he asked, shifting his eyes at me.

The whispers brewed in the cafeteria as everyone started looking at us from the corner of their eyes.

"Just syllabus ones," I replied, looking down at my plate while rummaging through curry with the spoon.

"Do I look stupid huh, calendars are not there," he asked, with a scoff he was dubious of my knowledge.

"Maybe my knowledge is better than yours," I replied, slurping the curry.

"You stole the papers didn't you," he asked, with a smirk.

"Why don't we talk after I'm done?" I replied, extending my lips in a straight line.

He slid my plate down the table, the ceramic plates broke into pieces as they hit the floor, food was everywhere around the floor and so does people's eyes too.

"I asked, did you steal the assignment papers?" he roared.

"Isn't it degrading acting like this?" I asked, standing up from the table.

"Sit, I'm still talking," he said, standing up from his chair and blocking my way.

"It's funny you're no special too, "

"The truth is I'm better than you" I continued, scowling.

"So stop ululating," I scoffed.

"How dare nobody like you, just because your father could afford the school doesn't mean you can talk to me like that,"

"Nobody," I scoffed.

"Just watch, I'm gonna pluck you out of this school," he said, as the pulses of his neck got swollen.

I ran my gaze at his finger, he didn't get treated they were naturally covered in thick crimson scab.

He is habitual I thought.

"If you could have fought you wouldn't have scars," I replied gazing over his wrist.

"What?" he asked, grinding his teeth.

"I'm getting late," I sighed.

"Something is wrong with me, it's not even the first time people called you something, why do you keep messing up," I whined.

"Uh it's ruined," I thought, resting my head on the door of the cafeteria and closing my eyes slowly to take a deep breath.

"Why don't we have a chat now?" a girl who tagged along Hera said, snapping beside my ear.

I opened my eyes instantly.

"What were you both talking about?" she asked.

"Nothing, just books and all," I replied.

They both wrapped their hands against their chest, as they wanted a much longer conversation.

"This is Kang Ji-eun Hyun-woo 's fiancee," Hera introduced Ji-eun. She had a perfect face, her eyes were sharp and fierce like her chic and almighty aura. It's funny seeing how one could have happened to have everything.

"Why should I know about this?" I asked, focusing my eyes on Hera.

"Don't get involved with Park Hyun-woo," Ji-eun said, putting her hair locks behind her ear and her diamond earrings shining over.

"I'm not involved with anyone," I continued, meeting her gaze.

"We just had a misunderstanding."

"Do you think you're the first woman, I know how this works, I had come across someone like you, that"s why let me give you some heads up,"

"You're of no help to him, he wants to go against his brother, and will only become a liability let's look at the big picture don't mess with anything around him….,"

"Let's not make things hard for each other," she forced a smile.

"I know," I replied, calmly.

"It's funny seeing people like her getting intimidated," I thought.

"Don't get close to him, there are other boys too," she said.

"Of course," I replied with a swift smile after her.

"I think you should get changed you stink," Hera said, following after her.

I comb my hair from my face, with a sigh.

"Let's just get out of here and get changed curry is all over my shoes," I thought, exhaling heavily.

"D-day 2," a slip was on my desk

"Are you practising?" Woo-jin asked, approaching me.

"You will know," I replied, and tore the slip apart.

"Also, Just one curiosity you did this to your hand don't you, I'm sure I never scratched it," I asked, holding his hand.

"You shouldn't touch someone, that easily," he forced a smile, letting his hand out.

"That doesn't matter, the truth is what I say?" he replied and paused beside me raising his nose in the air.

"Well you all are making me feel competitive, let's just get it done today before things get out of my hand," I replied.

***

I've been studying all evening, making sure everyone has left the school before I begin.

"Everyone must've left," I thought, checking the time on my phone, as it was past nine.

There was no more rustling of papers or chatters.

I left the library with my bag and took the stairs to the first floor.

I plugged the charger into my phone after dipping it in the water. The lights of the first floor got short-circuited.

It has become as dark as a cave. I sneaked around to the staff's office after putting everything back in my bag.

Looking around finally for the last time I pressed the teacher's pass over the lock, the door unlocked after a beep. I moved inside and closed it down quietly after me.

"Director's office," I mumbled, turning on the flashlight of my phone to investigate around the office.

"The records are elaborative and important, where would you keep them," I thought, looking all around the office.

"Right under your nose," I said, as soon as I noticed the door to the Director's office engraved on a golden nameplate.

"Access denied," showed over the lock screen as soon as pressed the card against the door's lock.

"Great," I said, with a sigh taking out the pin from my hair to unlock the door.

"Focus, it's just a door," I exhaled putting it inside the lock.

"Well you're an impressive thief," someone called after me, pointing a torch over my back.

My breath got stuck in my throat, the pin fell on the floor out of my hands.

"Not now," I mumbled, turning around, clenching my palm in a fist.

"Put it down," I said, closing my eyes and tilting my head away from that striking light.

Hyun-woo pointed the torch down.

"Uh it's you," I said, with a sigh of relief.

"Of course," he forced a smile.

"God, you scared the hell out of me," I continued, with a forced smile as the adrenaline rush faded.

"And it's perfect," he replied, stopping the recording of his phone.

"Smart, huh," I replied.

"What if I tell everyone?" He asked, putting his phone back in his pocket.

"Nothing, because you won't tell, we both can harm each other with our words, elections are approaching be more reasonable,"

"Telling on me, that is not exactly what you want, is it?" I replied, with a focused gaze shifting towards him.

"You're gonna share your curriculum and timetable with me, and make sure you'd never mess around me in the class," he demanded.

"And that's downgrade, but accepted," I said, curling my lower lip out.

"Not more than stealing papers," he replied, gazing superciliously through his half-lidded eyes.

"Hmm," I mumbled, looking away.

"Who's there?" Guard asked as they reached the first floor and turned on the power supply.

"I'll take care of them," Hyun-woo said.

"And yes if you're looking for papers they will be created tomorrow just before the test," he said, closing his torch off and moving out of the staff room.

"It can't be worse," I mumbled.

"You're disturbing my concentration, why don't you go back to your duties," he ordered, as soon as he left.

"We thought someone was here," they replied, timidly.

"I am," Hyun-woo replied.

"Good night," they said and left without saying much.

I pick up the pin and put it back on the lock.

"Let's get started," I cracked my knuckles and kept checking the lockers of his office extensively until I found the files of the students' records in his table's drawer.

"Finally," I mumbled, putting the document on the table, to take their pictures.
