บท 11: Chapter 11: Sun Kissed

The Luthor-Danvers household is quiet during breakfast. Kara feeds her pieces of fruit here and there from her own plate and Lena scoops up bits and pieces of eggs and vegan sausages while keeping her eyes firmly planted on the cartoon that still plays.
Lena still doesn't say much, just giving little nods if asked if she wants more fruit or another drink.
"You need water now, you have already had two juice boxes." Lena pouts and grows frustrated. She shoves the empty carton into her girlfriend's hands. I just want my juice!
Kara takes the empty carton and looks sternly towards her raven-haired girlfriend. "Lena, that is not how you ask for things."
Kara isn't exactly sure where the motherly tone came from, they both look at each other a little shocked.
Shortly after the initial shock has worn off, Lena hangs her head down in shame, refusing to make eye contact with Kara, in fear of getting another harsh reprimand.
"Sorry, water please?" She risks it and lifts her head a bit, taking a peek at her blonde girlfriend through her dampened eyelashes. Kara doesn't say anything, she just shoots her a small smile and gets up to get the same glass and reusable straw she used earlier. She fills it up a bit more than halfway and sets it on the table for her.
The day proceeds on, she lets Lena watch her cartoons, which seems to be something Kara has to put a limit on if this goes on in the future, and that is something she doesn't seem to mind. Lena had a nap an hour after breakfast, having a full belly and still battling a mild concussion makes her constantly a little tired.
Kara gets some stuff done, still keeping a close eye on the injured CEO. It's almost four, Sam, Alex, and Maggie should be on their way.
The superfriends have a game night about once or twice every other month. This thing they do, Maggie, Lena, Alex, Kara, and Sam, is every month every two weeks. They find that this small secluded group gives them room to breathe and have fun. Sometimes they would play board games, watch movies or even have painting contests. Which Kara or Sam seems to win every time, it's the Kryptonians genes! They have an unfair advantage.
But one thing they always do is make dinner. With the requirements of their demanding jobs, doing this allows them to have at least two propper non-greasy meals twice a month.
This works for all of them, they haven't missed a date yet. They each look forward to it. Lena, looking forward to the company and the ever-lasting feeling of being wanted. It's always hard for her, trying to tell the other side of her brain that she is loved and wanted while battling on the daily with the logical side telling her, 'they will leave you soon, you're just gonna mess it up.' Having these fun days helps quiet the indigent voice.
Maggie, having the same feelings, having the family she never thought she would have again. She enjoys the company she can now call them her new family. She is still hesitant, always ready with one foot out the door, so if they do push her out, she can land on both feet instead of her face. But she's learning, learning that this kind of love lasts, and it lasts forever, no matter what.
Kara, loving to be around the people she loves the most, having all of them surround her with
everlasting warmth. She watched her people die, then had her adopted father die for what felt like her fault. They say she was just a child, but deep down she can't help but feel responsible for the events that led up to his death. She is reminded, every day, by this family, that she is loved and is worth all costs. She is special, super or not. She deserves a happy life.
Alex, as tough on the outside she may seem, is all mush on the inside. After the death of her father, the disappearance prior to that, settling down and being happy was a hard concept to grasp. Having Maggie and Sam in her life gives her purpose, along with protecting her city and her sister, those are added brownie points.
Sam loves showing how much she cares for people. Being adopted, getting pregnant with a douchebags baby, and then having a miscarriage can break anyone. Her adopted mother never made her feel welcome, Sam has always questioned where she originated. But after meeting her best friend Lena, and then being introduced to the other, has filled a hole in her heart she didn't know she had. Having Maggie and Alex brings her so much joy, it's hard to contain her affection. It was a bit of a rocky bump when she turned out to be originating from Krypton, but after they have all helped her through it, she shines brighter than ever.
Kara sends some emails and makes some phone calls so that everything is in place for work. Cat, knowing that she is Supergirl gives her the time needed to take care of her girlfriend. She is given pieces that can be done at home with minimal effort. The Pulitzer winner would rather not do puff pieces or gossip columns but her girlfriend is the priority. Lena can fill in the periods of boredness that are bound to happen when doing these pieces.
The front door knocks softly when she sends the last email. She hears Lena flicker the cartoon off when she makes her way to open the door. Kara sees her demeanor change, she's not guarded but, less childlike?
Kara swings open the door and are greeted by Sam and Alex. She gives a questioning look as to where the short detective may be.
Sam pushes past with the ingredients and answers," She left something in the car, she's just a couple steps behind." Kara takes the rest of the stuff from Alex and follows Sam to the kitchen. Alex walks in last and pushes the door up a bit but doesn't close it, for Maggie.
The two Kryptonians get started in the kitchen, knowing that making two completely different things will take a while but they don't complain. Kara has gotten the hang of cooking, having Sam as a teacher, she can now make more than subpar boxed macaroni and cheese. While they are in the kitchen, Alex narrows her sight on Lena, she raises an eyebrow towards her in silent question. Lena nods her head and gives a slight smile in confirmation.
Alex makes quick work of her injuries, looking her over and giving her soft smiles. She is still severely bruised, it's only barely been a day, the edges are starting to yellow.
"How's the rib?"
"My pain meds work great, blondey over there has to keep telling me I'm hurt and need to sit still." Lena lets out a tiny laugh.
"See if I EVER carry you round the house again." Kara says in a petulant tone.
All Lena can do is flush and bury her head in the cushion beneath her. Alex goes to ask her another question but is interrupted by a small scream and a crash.
All eyes look over to the cause and Maggie is standing stock still, the item, being a book, fallen to the floor, her mouth is slightly agape.
Sam speeds over to Maggie. "Are you ok, are you hurt?!" Sam scans Maggie over, holding onto her hand. Maggie pushes her away, pushing past her a bit. The detective just looks over to Lena in shock. The CEO squirms perceptively in uncomfortableness.
"What happened Lena?" Maggie tentatively points to the stitches on her eyebrow.
"Just another murder attempt, no biggie." Maggie refuses to ask more questions to Lena, knowing that it's better for the slightly taller brunette to not think about it much.
Maggie's concern is not swept off of her face though, she turns to her girlfriends for answers.
"You guys seem to have known," They shake their heads yes slowly. "And didn't bother to warn me, instead I had to see-" Maggie stops herself. "Never mind." She lets out a deep breath, not wanting to disturb Lena.
Alex steps over to Maggie, "I couldn't tell you because it happened yesterday and," Alex leaves the rest up to interpretation. Maggie nods her head in understanding. Knowing that she was not in the right headspace or emotional state to receive news that someone she calls her best friend was almost murdered.
The detective tries not to look at Lena too much. Afraid that she will drop at the sight of her friend's face all bruised and battered. It takes her back, she doesn't want to go back, especially not now, not again after this morning.
Maggie gets her book and carefully slots next to Lena on the couch. The raven-haired CEO leans a bit into her, resting her head on Maggie's shoulder.
"Ok, I've been reading this new book, it's poetry so it's perfect for that brain of yours to analyze." Lena laughs at the implication.
The Latina hands the book over to the resident genius. The detective quickly points out her favourite verses, asking Lena what she thinks they each mean.
The three make it back to the kitchen. Reminiscing in the closeness their girlfriends have for one another. They each smile to a degree of fondness.
They begin to prepare dinner, Sam doing most of the work, while still teaching both the Danvers what should be done.
Kara looks back at the scene. Watching Lena smile animatedly towards Maggie, their heads resting on one another, they now sit in a lying position on their backs, sides touching, pointing to various words on the pages of the book. Lena reads a bit out loud while Maggie settles in. Her thumb aches for her mouth, Lena's eyes gloss with the childlike glow it showed this morning. Kara sees this interaction and it raises more questions, this scene reminds her of the question she's been wanting to ask her sister since last night.
"Alex, can I ask you something?"
