บท 6: Heartbeats
Days kept their flow as time doesn't stop its speed for anyone and nearly a week passed by. The first meeting with him was memorable, even If I talk about Lucas or Adrian.
Lucas went missing from the campus for some days, and his absence was a gift for me as I didn't want to catch up with him, at any condition. His presence brings me uncomfortablity and last time , when we had an argument, I showed many unnecessary swear words. And I can take the responsibility of it as his presence; which always includes a boorish tone and attitude to displease and make someone disgusted, makes me a different person. And I'm not sorry for it.
The week was enough to teach me the rules of the school, the character of my mates and the impact of 'THE LEADS' on this campus. They are the Apple of the eyes of this school management and staff, the reason to be called as LEADS was now clear in my mind. Even though some of them are evil as a devil ,their mischief makes the management turn a blind eye . And the one in the misery due to this relationship between them are the ordinary students, like me with no connections.
On a busy morning, with Arina ,I pass our free time while taking a walk on the campus ground. And the relief with which I was staying on the school gets destroy as,.." Lucas has arrived! " noise lies in my ears. The excitement runs around the girls' faces was noticeable and even my hopeless faces.
" After listening to Lucas's name , your excitement can be clearly seen.." Arina in a derision addresses,mocks me up.
" Oh! I don't expect this from you.., the whispers are again heard , they got something to gossip again as he is present today. " I answered her with a frown .
"People were wondering around me, how can she be so peaceful after standing against Lucas's group, but they don't know that I'm the one who is quite surprised. How can they have a tremendous fear for someone? ." I said putting forward the whispers people pull over and talk behind my back and even in my absence.
" Let it be, and you can handle these dicey actions and attitudes nicely. I have faith in you. Now let's head in, the real danger is waiting for you" Arina tries to comfort which a despondent voice.
We entered in and everything was normal as their absence was in the class. In class my attention only helped me to focus on the lectures and, after class as we moved out in the corridor, Ed with a soft smile hops in front and reaches Close to Arina.
" Hey!"
" Hey"___" Heyyyyy…...yyyy. " We responded to his greeting but Arina's behavior changed in front of him.
" Would you mind,..if I ask help in biology homework? "
" Of course, not! …" and Arina melts as an ice in his bright smile ,she loses words and in a shivering voice she said okay and followed his lead .
" I wonder why people call him flirt, I never saw him doing....." thinking about them I solely move forward . Mistakenly, I put my steps in the class,
" yeah…" a deep voice gets my recognition quickly, which was of Lucas . I looked up and my assumption went right.
" No..!" In my mind I scream out loud.
It was the place where Lucas and his friends were sitting, and having their fun. After a second,..... I realized but it was too.. late , " Oh mirror! Guys, the mirror is here..." Katty informs the whole group from which I was trying to skip but ....Dorothy with a sweet smile replies, " Her name is Ana...( turns towards me) come join us. "
And after her promising unseen support, I move to her with an audacity holding in my hands. Dorothy introduced Adrian's sisters and they greeted me with their warm smiles....
"What did you say that day?" Lucas asks in a straight tone,while sitting on the bench with cold looks.
I get it ,today will be doomsday.
"What ?...ummm...., I've been busy quiet so……, I didn't remember, if you can help me to recall so…?"I answered with a fake smile to show my fake unawareness .
"Are you going to destroy my reputation? you yelled bye moron at me! What does that mean..? You piece of trash! " in an anguish tone he yells his frustration and keeps his steps toward me. The atmosphere of the room changed. His every single step towards me were leading my steps backwards, as I'm taking my steps back ,his eyes starts giving me goosebumps.....and while moving , my toe tangled somewhere in the middle, and I lose my balance, as I turn back for discovering on whom I am falling but before that,...with a sound!
We touched the ground. However, I realize that I have fallen upon someone's body and my hand rests on someone's chest. I open my eyes and discover ,.....
After I fall ,a hand goes on My Back & My hand rests upon someone's chest. I slowly open My eyes & discover Adrian below me. It left me amused, and equally stunned. My eyes grow wide as they can be and I hear my heart beats louder than ever; and his eyes ;Get locked on me. And again, I am unable to think about anything..... but then I noticed something suspicious;....
His body was cold as ice and I could feel My heart beating but as my hands were up on his chest .I was unable to hear his heartbeat, nor able to feel it .It was cold Rock body and as .... I noticed with a sudden move, I tried to stand up again.
"Sorry , sorry Adrian. Are you Okay? "I stand up and lend him a helping hand.
"I'm okay , but you should be careful while walking, but why were you walking backwards? Is everything alright? "Adrian asks while standing up and dusting his clothes.
"umm.." I hesitate to tell him anything.
My books were all over the ground. I sit down to collect them to neglect answering him, and Dorothy comes over to help me. I collected all my belongings,...but a book was close to Lucas's legs and before I could get it he took it and stood straight in front of me . I saw a devil dancing around his head.
"Look. If you think that you are going to be a hero of these stupid fools of this school ,I suggest you drop this idea. We don't have bad blood.....so mind your own business and follow what I say,....and I don't like to repeat the same thing again and again. If you are a mirror, get this in mind. I'm a Rock , so stay away; otherwise I'll break you down into pieces." with glaring eyes Lucas tried to threaten me with his words.
While giving a disgusting look, he threw the book down and started walking out ,pushing my left shoulder. Adrian was standing behind me ,and with a sorry in his face... he turned towards them .
"Hey, Rock!" I yelled, While picking up the book from the ground, my fiery mind turned his back and his steps stopped and turned towards me. And all his mates turn their faces to me with a smirk on it.
"Rock, I will address you Rock, cause I too felt bad ,when I compared a lunatic to a moron! you got angry because of that....right?!. Now you keep this in mind; I'm not trying to be a hero cause; I'm the one .So I don't need to try to be one .....and if you wish to break me with your little games ,I'm ready to play it man! .....we will see who will break first this mirror or a Rock ...(moves towards him and stands in front of him) I'm a girl ,but it doesn't mean that I will be threatened by you all? I just want to make friends, nothing else , and nothing more. I will play this as your friend, Mr.Rock. I'm getting late, I'll see you later ....bye see you.``
With a smile and confidence in my language, I leave the room and them behind . And I can very well say that they were astonished by my sweet but killing words. I adopt a formula to tolerate them with kindness and smile, because the power of a bully is all about the fear of the person he is bullying. If the fear leaves your mind, you can stand strong in front of anyone ,no matter if he is a bully or a monster.
My words left them shocked and while leaving...I turned back to glance at once, but...Adrian's soft smile on me ,left me shocked.
As I catch his smile; my cheeks turn red .In Whole day ,I swear, after seeing him my mind refuses to focus on studies or on lectures. But then I recall his touch on my body ,his hand on my back and my hands on his chest... it was beautiful but.....The touch was too cold and the way I was able to hear my heart beat loud, I couldn't feel the heart beating in his chest. I doubt myself as I'd have been mistaken," How can a heart not beat in a living body...?.he is a human.!."
I blame myself, and think that I've been so mesmerized by him that I forgot to detect his heartbeats. I laughed at myself. And then, the lunch break bell brings me back from my dreamland.
" Arina has not been seen in the class nor Ed, I think they both are together ,maybe Ed really lacks in studies so he might need her, or whatever." ...I think of her and keep heading towards the cafe .And I found all eyes on me as I stepped in.
