บท 18: Chapter 18: Family Reunion

Earlier, at the Kelutral of the Omatikayas

Neytiri was in charge of Jake's apprenticeship. Today was the course of Pali's rising to the flood. The first time, this tawtute fell at the first ride.

Today, she noticed, with some joy, that he was progressing because he held the first gallop.

Jake: Hey look at that!

Unfortunately, it didn't last and he fell to the ground, rolling in the mud under the amused smiles of his tutor.

Jake: Oh shit!

She helped him up when a shadow, similar to an Ikran, crossed them.

They raised their heads as Jake cleaned the mud off his chest. A yellow Ikran signaled its arrival with a small, shrill cry.

Jake: Are you expecting a visit?

Neytiri remained silent for a moment before mumbling something that the sailor did not hear. Then she ran to the KelutralJake: Hey, Jake started to follow her, wondering why his guardian was behaving so strangely.

Lutsey finally landed in the Kelutral of omatikayas after flying all morning. Once down, she gave a reproachful look to Tahni, her ikran.

Lutsey: You have to make yourself heard...

She heard footsteps coming towards her and smiled as she recognized them. The young olo'eyktan looked up and saw her father and her adoptive mother. She went towards them with a radiant smile before purring under her mother's arms before facing her adoptive father.

Eytukan: You seem to have matured since the last time Lutsey.

Lutsey smiled: You haven't changed, though.

This one gave it back to him. Suddenly, a voice cut them off in their silent exchange.

Neytiri: Little sister! She barely had time to turn her head when Neytiri jumped on her and hugged her with all the weight of her love for her.

Neytiri : I missed you so much! Why didn't you come back before?

Lutsey: Arg... Neytiri... You're suffocating me!

This one spread a little red as the young olo'eyktan took a breath.

Lutsey : I felt that I missed you !

Neytiri : You only had to come more often !

Eytukan: Neytiri, your sister has responsibilities now. She can't come as she wishes.

Mo'at: You also have responsibilities to fulfill, my daughter.

Neytiri: But... It's been a long time... The look in her mother's eyes convinced her that it was useless to insist. She breathed a sigh of exasperation before walking away, making room for herself in the crowd.

Lutsey didn't prefer to ask the question, but she was intrigued by her adoptive mother's words. What responsibilities was she talking about?

During the descent, she chatted with her father and her mentor while everyone went back to their activities but delighted.

Eytukan: What is the reason for your visit, my daughter?

Lutsey: I needed to recharge my batteries. Let's just say I'm under constant pressure right now.

Eytukan: What is it Ludsey? I can see you're nervous

Lutsey sighed: I see you know me too well Father. But I cannot tell you about it. It's something that only I can solve.

Eytukan: I can advise you. You know you can always count on me.

Lutsey: I know that. But...She was silent for a moment. How could she confess to him that her heart swings for a member of the People of Heaven after what they did to her family.

Eytukan: It must be very personal for you to be so closed.

Ludsey: Indeed.

On the one hand, she was happy that her adoptive father was so compressive but she was a little embarrassed that he got to know her so well.

Finally, they arrived at the bottom of the House Tree, Lutsey kept getting tired of seeing this magnificent and great instrument that had given the clan its name.

Lutsey respectively greeted Tsutey who will inherit the heavy task of being chief by bonding with his sister, Neytiri. She did not share the interest of this obligation but she had to resign herself to the fact that it could be a necessity.

Lutsey: I hope you will take good care of her, Tsutey.

Tsu'tey: You have my word, ma olo'eyktan.

Lutsey observed it in detail with an expert eye. Although he seemed cold in appearance, his intuition showed him a certain tension emanating from the warrior. What was the reason for this? She would no doubt see during his stay and therefore decided to relax the atmosphere.

Lutsey smiled: You don't have to call me that. I am an omatikaya too.

Eytukan: I see that you were able to impose yourself on your people, my Lutsey.

Lutsey: Yes Father. We didn't really agree at first and we had to settle it the way the clan did.

Tsu'tey: Which is?

Lutsey smiles: By the duel.

Tsu'tey: It's rare to have an Olo'eyktan woman.

Lutsey: Thank you. I'm going to have to dismiss. As much as I love my clan, I missed my first home and family.

Mo'at with a smile: You're always home, girl.

Lutsey kissed his adoptive mother's forehead and his second father's cheek. This made his second father blush in spite of himself.

Then she walked away from them, passing in front of the totem pole with the head of the Toruk.

Some children ran nearby, pretending to play a game. She looked at them with a smile. Until she felt two hands on her shoulders suddenly grabbing her.

Lutsey was startled and heard Neytiri laughing. The young Ololo'eyktan then turned to her adopted sister, her ears lowered and her tail whipping in the air.

Lutsey offended: Do you think it's funny?

Neytiri: Oh, calm down!

Lutsey: I was until... Anyway. How are you doing big sister?

Neytiri: Fine. Especially since you've come back home.

Lutsey: Uh... How can I tell you... My stay is only temporary. Neytiri laughed and elbowed her right arm.

Neytiri: I know that, diote!

Lutsey, embarrassed: Ah, Ludsey couldn't help but breathe a melancholy sigh.

Lutsey : I miss Silwanin. I still find it hard to bear his disappearance.

Neytiri, lowering her eyes sadly: I know. But we have to move on. You can't stay forever in the past. They were silent for a moment before Ludsey cut him off.

Ludsey: Tell me Neytiri, what responsibilities was Mother talking about when I arrived?

Neytiri nervous: Ah! Uh.... How can I put it... She didn't have time to finish that a figure was approaching them. A man. A few moments later, she realized that he was a dream walker.

He was saying something to Neytiri that seemed to hide his face with his hand, as if he had done something stupid.

As for the olo'eyktan, his features hardened and his eyes changed from tawtute to his sister.

She let them talk until the tawtute held out its hand to her, as if it were a friendly sign. But the olo'eyktan was not moved and refused to shake her hand. Finally, he took it off. She looked at Neytiri with her black eyes.

Lutsey: Is "Him" your responsibility? A demon with a false body?

Neytiri: I didn't choose! It was Mother who asked me to teach her our customs. Ludsey looked at the tawtute for a few moments Jake before saying.

Lutsey : He doesn't look smart.

Neytiri: Don't underestimate him, little sister. He learns quickly and Eywa pointed him out.

Lutsey: If you say so. Then she looked at Jake and sighed away.

Jake looked at Ludsey for a moment before turning to Neytiri.

Jake: It looks like I've made a new friend. Neytiri looked at him angrily.

Neytiri: You shouldn't laugh about it. She's an olo'eyktan and my little sister.Jake was startled.

Jake: Your...your little sister?

Neytiri: Yes.

Jake: Well, I'm going to get to know the whole family at... Ouch! Neytiri slapped her on the back of the head.Neytiri: Idiot! Neytiri found Lutsey's behavior strange. She was only satisfied with a hostile look. Probably the fact that Eywa had chosen Jake. Where was that other thing?

Lutsey went for a walk in Kelutral to change her mind. The meeting with Jake did not make his personal problem any easier. On the contrary, it reminded her of the burden she had to fulfill and inevitably, think of her apprentice.

Lutsey : Damn this tawtute ! During her walk, she noticed an individual among sisters who had the outfit of the dream walkers although she decorated her hair with some accessories.

Lutsey thought: I'm dreaming? she got closer to the unknown. When she arrived, the smiles of the girls accompanying this tawtute faded and seemed nervous.

They all knew the Menariyä tunti's resentment towards the Sawtute and were afraid of the outcome of the conversation.

Grace noticed their faces and turned to the provenance. She then faced the young olo'eyktan.

Lutsey, in a hostile tone: Why are you there tawtute? Grace was about to answer when Mo'at's voice interrupted her.

Mo'at: I gave her permission. Ludsey turned to her, surprised.

Lutsey: Why Mother? Did you forget...

Mo'at: How dare you imply that I might have forgotten? But this woman saved me from losing a second one. And other parents would have lost their children too.

Lutsey: That's what she's telling you!

Mo'at: And she seemed sincere to me. You should get to know her before you judge herOn those words, she walked away while Ludsey gave a dark, unhappy look.Grace: You must be Lutsey. Neytiri and Silwanin have...

Hearing the name of her deceased sister, the grief and rage that she had been hiding resurfaced.

Lutsey raising his voice: I forbid you to speak her name. This tone frightened the children who took refuge behind Grace, trembling.

Grace: You frighten the children

Lutsey : Don't call me by my first name !!! I am not your friend !

Grace sighed: All right... You'll have to keep your voice down. I suffered as much as you did from your sister's death. But that's no reason to be aggressive towards me.

Lutsey: She called you Mother. And you didn't even protect her from danger! Grace shed a tear at that scathing word.

Grace: Listen Lutsey. I can understand your anger.

Lutsey: How can you understand? Your people are only interested in destroying what they come across !

Grace: There are always exceptions. You just have to open your eyes! Ludsey couldn't help thinking about his apprentice. Once again! She uttered a hiss of exasperation and looked at the girls behind Grace and felt her anger begin to fade away. If they were able to accept it despite the horrors they had seen, perhaps there was some good in this tawtute?

The young olo'eyktan turned her gaze towards Grace before walking away.

Grace: Wait! I want to talk to you first! Ludsey turned to Grace with a hostile look.

Lutsey: Leave me alone tawtute!

Grace: I just want to talk.

Lutsey: What for?

Grace: Just to get to know you better. I've heard a lot about you but I've never been able to see you.

Lutsey: Well, I don't want to see you. With those words, she walked away.

Grace saw her walk away: What a character! They were not exaggerating. At sunset,

Lutsey sat on the river bank. She looked at the Kelutral for a moment before contemplating its reflection in the river. For a moment she thought she saw her apprentice's reflection and she violently dispersed the water with her hand, trying to make the image disappear.

No matter how hard she tried to forget this nascent passion, fighting it, she kept coming back.

Lutsey holding her head: I will not succumb. I will not succumb.

Ludsey: Nothing. Neytiri approached her and sat down on her right. Neytiri: You can't hide anything from me, little sister. What's wrong? Ludsey lowered her ears, worried. But she preferred to remain silent.

Neytiri: Don't be stuck!

Lutsey : Okay, okay...

Neytiri : So?

Lutsey : I want to have a child.

It was the truth. For a year, she wanted to be a mother but was afraid she would never find the right partner.

Neytiri astonished: What? Is that it?

Lutsey: What did you imagine?

Neytiri: I imagined love at first sight!

Lutsey thought: By Eywa, she guessed!

Lutsey: That's the problem. With my responsibilities, I don't have time for courting.

Neytiri : That's it. Don't make me believe that. It's just that you haven't found it yet.

Lutsey: Maybe. I hope it will come

Neytiri with a smile: I'm convinced of it ! You have charm little sister. I doubt that you leave indifferent.

Lutsey blushes under the amused gaze of his older sister.
