บท 7: Chapter 6: Old Wounds Fresh Again

Michan sat cross-legged on her princess-sized bed facing her laptop. She was dressed in her grey pajamas and her hair placed in a messy bun making her look so sexy.On the screen was the video call she was holding with Danielle. Danielle was clearly doubtful of whatever Michan was informing her.

"Danie, I am just trying to be understanding."

"I am not refusing you to do so but I just want you to be careful, okay! He hurt you before won't he do it again?"

"Let me give him one more chance, Bessie."

Danielle relaxed because she was relieved that Michan was finally freeing herself from the pain of hate though on the other side, she was scared that history might repeat. She had witnessed the pain in her friend's eyes whenever Ginn's name was brought up in her presence. That alone had forced Danielle to bring her shadow bodyguards set up by her father in their friendship circle to make sure no one brings up Ginn's name. the shadow bodyguards, Mira, Dorcus and Feliz, were their classmates planted by his father whose parents were Danielle's father's special unit of bodyguards. These three girls were highly trained and passionate in protecting Danielle.

Now altogether they were a group of five girls and that's when a new chapter of happiness opened up in Michan's life. One year after the Ginn scandal, Danielle's father decided to take all the five abroad in USA to complete their education in higher levels faster and better.

Danielle let her teary eyes to melt in relief. 'Finally!'

Michan became friendly to Ginn once again to his surprise. He could feel that she had forgiven him even without saying it. Mrs. Thompson was happy about the new version of the pair's relationship.

Michan walked to the kitchen in the night to get herself a glass of water. "oh sorry, sorry." She mumbled as she held her forehead to relieve the shock she received from bumping into a hard obstacle. "Are you okay?" Came the gentle worried voice of Ginn her offender. He thought she would lash out to him but the complete opposite happened. She smiled at him and informed him it was okay. His heart flattered happily and flipped uncontrollably. 'Did she just speak to him with a smile?' Oh how her smile called him to claim her lips as his own! 'What am I thinking? Ginn get a hold of yourself. Do not spoil this chance she has given unto you.

The next days were pure bliss to him.

"Dear?"

"Yes mother."

"I wish you two could make this marriage work." Ginn looked at Michan to see her reaction but she remained jolly to his relief. She silently sighed and answered to the fair lady's wish. "That is not up to me or us. It is up to our hearts, so far as I know our hearts belong to different people." Her reply shattered Ginn's hopes but he remained calm and fought hard to keep his smile on but to no avail.

The next two days saw her having breakfast and dinner with the family. Ginn felt really good without even knowing he never took his eyes off her throughout the meals.

I guess the world is right on this, 'Good things do not last long'.

On a fateful morning when Michan had her day off, as they were having breakfast with everyone happy and engrossed in the jesting, chatting and laughter, a voice turned the joy flame to burn out.

"Ginn!" a very familiar voice, called out to Ginn. It was very familiar to everyone on the table. Michan froze as same as Ginn. Mrs. Thompson was the first to turn, shock and anger quickly enveloped her wrinkle-less fair face. She stood up causing the chair to push back noisily. The noise did no justice to the shock that already settled in the core of Ginn and Michan. Anger rose in Ginn and he jerked up in haste to meet Kristine. Michan caught his hand just in time to prevent him from doing what he would regret later on. In these previous days of their friendship, Michan had told him what happened on the wedding.

The wedding day…..

"Arise for the bride's entry!" an authoritative voice sounded earning a standing ovation from the church occupants. To their disbelief, no one entered forcing whispers and murmurs out of the standing people. The coffee brown haired gentleman who proved to be the bridegroom looked tense as his fears were creeping deeper and deeper to every elapsing millisecond, second and minute.

"Bro, what's going on?" a red head who proved to be the best man, asked the bridegroom. "Jason, I do not know what's going on either. I am confused what's going on? Where is Kristine?" Ginn was rooted that even the words that rolled out of his mouth were alien to himself.

At the time, Michan spotted Ginna who entered without the bride with worry in her eyes. She knew the curvy coffee brown haired lady who was a female version of Ginn. Ginna did not realize the pair of eyes staring at her as she walked straight to her brother and pulled him to the back room of the church. Michan involuntarily walked to their direction but did not want to meet Ginn as of then. Her interest was only to meet Ginna whom she had spent two years without seeing.

"Brother, I cannot get a hold of Kristine. It's like she has disappeared in thin air. The gowns' lady said that she picked up the wedding gown in the morning and after that no one knows where she is. I cannot even find her friends, Loisa and Sophia." Ginna informed him with worry and confusion in her whole being. Ginn said nothing and walked away back to the pulpit and informed Jason about it. They all were worried of how to inform the guests that no wedding would happen.

As Ginn and Jason were still discussing what to do, Ginna heard the door of the room in which she was pacing open.It revealed a beauty whom she never expected to see. Michan stepped in and they immediately embraced in a tight hug.

"Sister! I missed you, where have you been for all this time. I returned six months ago and I could not find you." Ginna asked with teary eyes. Not tears of pain but of joy for meeting the sister she got but had no blood relations at all.

"Ginna, I went to complete my Masters in tourism from USA after my degree here. But before that you also got lost that I could not find you a month before I departed, where were you?" Before Ginna could reply, her mind reminded her of the current issue burning. "Sis, that will be a story for another day but the current problem is with Ginn. We need to save the family reputation. Dad will be humiliated same as Ginn and hence their relationship will go from worse to worst."

Michan looked away and her facial expression changed from joy to gloom. "That doe not concern me Ginna. That's his issue with his fiancé. I care less." Ginna turned her to look at her. She sighed and then selected her words wisely and carefully. "Then why are you here? If you do not care like you say, then why did you attend. Do you not consider him a friend?"

"No, he is actually nothing but I came here for old times' sake because I made a promise and I always fulfill my promises. I made a promise to him that I will attend his wedding though that's when we were best of friends." Michan spoke smoothly trying hard to hide the hurt in her tone. Ginna thought for a time but no solution came to her mind. The door gave way to a handsome guy with black orbs. "Babe, why are you here? I guess we should leave for now. It seems the wedding won't happen and we have no other businesses here." He spoke to Michan who was now offering her full attention to him. She asked him to wait a little longer as Ginna needed her for then.

Ginna tried calling a certain number countless times but to no avail it was.

"Have you tried calling Kristine?"

"I have countless times but she does not pick up." Ginna replied with frustration so evident. Michan decided to call Kristine using her phone and miraculously the phone was picked up. Ginna rushed to snatch it from Michan and demanded the person on the other line to inform her where she was but the person just hung up the phone leaving Ginna dumbfounded by the action. Michan immediately tried again and the phone was picked up so she this time round spoke on the phone and heard Sophia's voice speak.

She was calm at first and decided to reason with her but it was helpless. "Sophia, where is Kristine? Tell her the wedding is about to be canceled if she does not arrive quick." Sophia chuckled wickedly and handed the phone to Kristine. Kristine calmly warned Michan not to hand the phone to anyone or try anything funny.

"Michan, consider this my revenge to you. Blame no one else for this shame towards Ginn, but you. I wanted you to stay away from him forever but you appeared once again. But why? Anyway, it does not matter you are just like your mother. Shamelessly stealing men who are not yours." The next words fell in Ginna's ears as she became impatient and silently snatched the phone to her ear. "Well, all said and done, am not coming whether shame will befall or not." She hung up and left the two rooted to the ground.

Ginna screamed in anger in a corner and returned beside Michan. She held Michan's hand pleadingly as a plan had settled in her mind. "Sis please save us. We just need a stand in for now. I cannot let the relationship between dad and Ginn become worst. Please!" Michan backed away slightly and looked at her a stranger. "Are you seriously asking me to be your brother's stand in? are you out of your mind? I have a life too. I have a boyfriend who is standing with us in this same room and you are asking me to be your brother's wife?"

Ginna nodded and then shouted the reply. "Yes! Yes, am out of mind. I can do anything for my brother. You know our history, I and Ginn. Apart from you, only him supported me during my pregnancy. Michan you can't let Kristine win in bringing shame to my brother. Please, you have to help me." Ginna turned to Davis and pleaded with him to let Michan do it. "It will be a fake marriage I swear. Please tell her to help me."

The handsome guy turned and hugged Michan and whispered to her. "I will agree to anything you decide as long as you remain mine, okay?" he sensed that Michan wanted to save Ginna and her family from shame because she had a heart of gold, but she was hesitating because of him. He did not want to be her source of regret so he let her decide freely.

The next moment, Ginna requested for the wedding dress she had spotted in the shop behind the church. It was a simple mermaid gown that adored Michan's proportioned body perfectly and highlighted her special features such as the hips and backside. The heels were maintained as they matched the gown and left her comfortable. Ginna applied some simple light makeup. Michan refused to use lipstick as she had her preferred lip gloss in her hand bag. She applied the apple lip gloss and they made to the outside of the church through the back door and stood on the door.

Ginna called Jason and informed him that a wedding was to happen. He wondered but did as she instructed and a wedding happened.

Back to present...

"Ginn, I need you to listen to me first." Kristine requested with her soft voice that used to cheer him up but now he felt disgusted for such a creature as her. "How dare you even face me? You have guts Kristine." She sadly answered to his surprise. "Yes, I have guts."

"What!" he spoke barely audible.

"Yes, I have guts. But I have only got them now to be able to clear out the misunderstanding. You are siding with the wrong person; she is the reason why I did not come." Everyone was now shocked as they turned to look at Michan.

Michan was now confused. Was she in her right minds. "Kristine what are you talking about?"

"Guards! Come and take her away." Mrs. Thompson ordered but her husband refused. "Lillian let her talk. We may have been wrong about her. She could not believe her husband's words. "You want us to listen to someone who almost put us to shame? Honey what's wrong with you?"

He ignored her words and beckoned Kristine to continue. Kristine smiled inwardly realizing that she had one big shark on the hook and that's all she needed.

"She stopped me from coming to the wedding!" Kristine continued. "It's because she loved you and did not want me to marry you."

"Do you think I'll trust you again? You liar!" Ginn bellowed but he had believed her. Michan looked at Ginn with hope but her hopes where shattered after Kristine's next words.

"Ginn, think about it. She did not talk to you in the past two years and now she attended our wedding? How can that be?"

Mrs. Thompson pronounced her thoughts. "That is what they call true friendship. It overlooks the hatred and attends the special days of the latter. Okay even if she refused you, did she bind you from stepping in the church?"

Kristine was so cunning that no attack against her could be a success. "Mother, she kidnapped me." Everyone got even more shocked. "You think am lying, look, these pictures show how she tied me up and threatened me that if I appear again, she would use her friend's power to harm my family and anyone around me. I got scared, who wouldn't? These pictures are from her phone, the men she used are the ones who sent it to my phone because she did not pay them as agreed."

Mr. Thompson grabbed Michan's phone and ordered her to unlock it quickly. She did so and unfortunately, the pictures where in her phone gallery. "What is the meaning of this?" He bellowed like an angry tiger sending shivers down Michan's spine. She shook her head to defend herself but no one seemed to believe her. She turned to Ginn with teary eyes and asked him to say something.

"Ginn say something. Tell me you do not believe her." His heart flipped because he had yearned for her to touch her but she did not and now it seems too late. She let go of his arm disappointedly. She smiled sadly and spoke as though to herself though audible enough to everybody. "What did I expect from you? You did it before, you can do it again. I really hate you this time." Ginn felt an ache in his chest when she pronounced out her last words. 'Did she mean it?' he wondered to himself.

Michan's phone rang and she answered it without checking out the caller ID. "I thought I was on a leave today. Oh! Okay I will be there soon. I am fine Davis." On the mention of Davis' name, Ginn felt a pang of jealous but basing on the current situation he had to keep it to himself. She hangs up and picked up her white jean jacket and headed to go out. "Are you going to meet Davis?" Ginn managed to ask but she shoved his hand away that was holding her wrist and walked to the door.

Before she walked out, she stood beside Kristine whilst facing the door and forced herself to agitate her even though a bit. "Kristine, if I threatened to harm you before then wait, I will do it." She smiled wickedly and continued. "Last time you kept your trophy, even this time do the same." She stretched trophy while looking at Ginn and moved out in her simple two-piece feminine suit. She did not bother to change as she felt so broken to even change her clothes or rather freshen up before going to work.

She finally let her tears flow once she was outside the house. The old wounds were fresh again. Danielle learned of what happened and immediately booked a flight to return and meet Michan as well as pay Kristine a visit. what would she do to Kristine for messing with her best friend.
