CHAPTER 70 – The Real Direction

An hour had barely elapsed when Zale's shut eyes flew open and narrowed dangerously.

From where he sat at a corner in the house, Cairo watched as he lifted into a sitting position on the chair.

The deadpan look on his face told the young boy something was wrong.

Zale frowned deeply. What he had felt in his very short nap told him all was not all right.

'Pearl! The barrier… Someone has breached it? For all, I know she may be in danger.'

He stood from the chair and scanned the place for his bag but recalling he came empty-handed save for his cloak, Zale face palmed himself internally.

"Here," Cairo pointed out for him. 

Following his line of sight, Zale noticed it was hung on a nail close to the door and breathed out.

"Where's Claire?"

"She retired for the night," Cairo informed.

"Okay. And why are you not with her?"

"You're in my spot."

"The chair?"
